Chapter 774: THE ENEMY
Chapter 774: THE ENEMY
Being called a slut, whore and every bad name in the book by Martha wasn’t what bugged me.
It was being called an outsider that bugged me the most.
She had said everyone thought we were strange.
It didn’t make any sense.
“We were always going to be outsiders.”
Those were her exact words.
It made absolutely no sense.
Mother had said we had lived here.
That we were from here.
So what did Martha even mean by what she had said.
I chewed on bottom lip.
And that name.
Scarlett.
It had done something to me.
I could swear on my soul that mother had called me Scarlett.
I could swear it.
But then again I had been so messed up by whatever was happening to me.
I thought maybe I was hallucinating.
Maybe….. Gosh.
It was all too much for me.
I did feel mother was hiding something from me.
Whatever it was I was going to-
I rammed right straight into someone.
“You stupid bitch!” Came the snarl from whoever I had hit.
A metal tray came crashing on the floor all its content spilling.
“I am so sorry.”I said as I hurriedly bent down to pick up the loaves of bread one by one.
I rose up to my feet and saw it was one of the she wolves who worked as servants.
“Go away.” She said as she snatched the bread from me. “Filthy unshifted whore!”
I looked at her in shock.
“What?” I managed in surprise.
She glared at me.
I had seen her a couple of times around the pack.
She didn’t like me.
Would usually go around doing her duties, most ignored me.
But this was the first time she had ever been upfront with me.
“You heard me. Whore.” She hisssed.
My lips dropped and the anger came.
I matched up to her as she scampered back.
“What the hell did you just say to me?” I said still in more disbelief.
Her eyes lit up. “You think you scare me? Huh? Get the hell out of here. No one wants you! We might not like you but Alice liked you and because we all liked Alice we didn’t have to mind you.”
“Most of the male wolves sniff over you especially when they are in their heat just by having you around. But now, you come here and take their eyes off. You could have had them and that would be the end of the matter.”
I blinked at that.
“But you had to go and take Aiden for yourself didn’t you?” She said over me. “You’ll do anything just to get yourself out of here. Well now you’re our enemy.”
I just stared at her in.
Was this what Alice was spilling around to everyone?
Now all the she wolves in the pack hated me because of some stupid idea she got wrong.
“If you think I’m scared of you you’re insane.” I promised as I stoned the bread and it landed hard on her nose.
“Owwww.” She howled in pain.
I didn’t bother checking to see she was okay.
I snorted and went off to where I knew I was being expected.
I was going to meet Alice later and have this whole thing straightened out.
As I made the corner I bumped right into head house keeper.
“Where have you been?” She said.
I took a step back. “I’ve been with my mother.”
“Weren’t you assigned as Lord Aiden’s handmaiden?” She asked me.
I sighed heavily.
“You have duties now. Duties that you can not be late to. Do you understand me?” She snapped.
“I do.” I sighed reluctantly.
The large woman eyed me over and began to list out an outrageous number of things I was expected to do.
By the time she was gone I was bewildered.
“I don’t want to do any of that.” I howled. “I just want to work for my mother.”
She eyed me. “You will and must.”
I rolled my eyes irritated. “Can’t someone else do it? Someone like Alice. She wants to do it. Let her have it.”
She glared her nostrils at me. “Who are you to boss me around young lady. Aiden has given out a directive and we will follow it as it has been deemed fit.”
“After all I heard that it was something you had been begging for. Now all of a sudden you want a change of plans? What do you think you are? Luna of the pack?”
I pursed my lips but kept my thoughts to myself.
I had an odd feeling that if I said anything I would probably get slapped.
“What are you waiting for?” She eyed me up and down as I remained standing.
“Get going! Sweet Goddess!”
I grunted as I dragged my feet along on my way.
I marched my feet up the stone steps.
I could feel the eyes of everyone I passed as I went by.
The news had spread like wildfire around.
Everyone knew that I was now Aiden’s hand maiden.
And the rumors, Courtesy of Alice had everyone in an uproar.
I was going to meet Aiden and tell him that I would raise the money and pay him pack.
I touched the emerald necklace on my chest.
It had been with me since I was a child.
A family heirloom my mother had said.
I could give him that.
I’m sure it was worth a lot.
I finally got to the door of his room and found two guards standing attention.
They moved over once I arrived.
I grimaced as I braced myself for having to see the arrogant monster.
I opened the door myself and I found myself in his room.
I had never seen it before.
I had expected it to be cold and intimidating just like him but I was left gawking.
It was beautiful.
The room was spacious, with tall windows that let the sunlight stretch across the polished floors.
From where I stood, Ruby could see the green trees beyond the glass, making the room feel almost like it was surrounded by the forest.
A large four-poster bed stood against the far wall, its dark wooden frame intricately carved and draped with soft, deep-colored curtains.
Thick rugs covered portions of the floor, and a magnificent stone fireplace occupied one side of the room, surrounded by neatly arranged logs.
There was a large wooden desk beneath one of the windows, covered with maps, books, and sheets of parchment.
Shelves lined another wall, filled with old books and scrolls.
Everything was masculine, elegant, and expensive without being unnecessarily extravagant.
I walked over and traced my finger over the beautiful shelves.
It stunned me.
I turned around and to my horror standing before me was a very naked Aiden.
