The Beginning of Natural Disaster, I Won by Hoarding Tens of Billions of Supplies

Chapter 215: Food Poisoning

Chapter 215: Food Poisoning

Shuffling, dealing, playing poker till late into the night.

When she opened her eyes again, the sun was already shining brightly outside the window.

Yawning, Jiang Ning stretched lazily. “Hmm…”

Feeling a bit disoriented, her groggy mind took a while to fully wake up.

The pillow beside her was empty, and then she remembered that Huo Yishen had classes this morning.

She glanced at her watch; it was past ten.

Jiang Ning got out of bed, almost stumbling.

“Ouch, Her back! Her back is really aching!”

Little did she know, when she looked up and saw four umbrellas hanging on the wall, she was thunderstruck. Did he think it was still the 1960s or 70s, and they could reuse them?

What if they accidentally got poisoned? Their lives were at risk!

Without a second thought, Jiang Ning threw all the umbrellas into the trash can.

After brushing her teeth and freshening up, she realized Doudou wasn’t home; she must have gone to class with Huo Yishen.

It was almost time, so Jiang Ning retrieved lunch from her space, specifically preparing the medicinal chicken soup.

Just as she finished preparing, the siblings returned.

After having the pork brain stew with Gastrodia Elata, Doudou seemed much livelier. “Sister, I’ve fattened up.”

“Okay, wash your hands and let’s eat.”

“Doudou,” Huo Yishen called out to his sister, correcting her, “From today, call her sister-in-law. Don’t call her sister anymore.”

Doudou looked a bit confused, her eyes darting between Jiang Ning and her brother, not quite understanding the difference between sister-in-law and sister.

“Brother likes sister, we’re already together, she’s my wife, so you have to call her sister-in-law.”

Together? But brother and sister have always been together.

Doudou was puzzled, but still obediently flashed a sweet smile at Jiang Ning. “Sister-in-law.”

One ‘sister-in-law’ and Jiang Ning blushed. “Let’s, let’s eat.”

After washing her hands, Doudou sat down eagerly. “Sister-in-law, I went to class today, and many people asked if my injury was better?”

She took out a paper crane from her pocket. “This is the gift Xiao Ming gave me.”

Xiao Ming? That boy who keeps pet rats.

“And there’s Xiao Hui, she secretly gave me a candy, but I didn’t take it.”

Having candy snatched from her mouth, Doudou knew it could save lives.

She didn’t need the candy, but Xiao Hui had treasured it for months without eating it.

Jiang Ning encouraged her, “Doudou, you’re great. We can’t give our things to others, and we shouldn’t take other people’s things.”

After drinking two bowls of nourishing chicken soup, her depleted body felt much better.

Seeing Huo Yishen acting as if nothing happened, Jiang Ning felt a bit annoyed, but he always hid his feelings well. She pushed the scrambled eggs with chives towards him. “Eat more.”

It’s good for your kidneys.

Huo Yishen returned the favor with braised pork. “You too.”

A hint of redness crept into her cheeks.

After lunch, Doudou took the initiative to take on household chores, with the dog helping out on the side.

Jiang Ning dragged her depleted body back to the room to continue sleeping.

Huo Yishen followed, then realized the umbrellas were missing.

After searching around, he found them quietly lying in the trash can.

Seeing only a few hundred from the drugstore, Huo Yishen sat down beside her and gently pushed her. “How many do you have?”

Jiang Ning felt a bit embarrassed but still took out the remaining inventory from Comrade Wang Meng.

Huo Yishen calculated; they were going to spend their whole lives together, and it still wasn’t enough.

Jiang Ning was speechless, so she took him into her space to see the cabinets from Feng Kunpeng.

In the end, Huo Yishen’s lips twitched; this was more than enough.

Although very tired, Jiang Ning couldn’t sleep with him by her side, so she had to chat. “How are those students you’re teaching?”

“They’re alright, they know they need to defend themselves and survive in the apocalypse. They’re all very diligent, hardworking and never lazy.”

Huo Yishen holds them to strict standards, “I’ve selected a few with standard movements and high comprehension to teach other members of the community. This way, they can get promoted quickly, and I can have an easier time.”

Staying up late and rising early, he was truly tired as well, and soon fell asleep holding Jiang Ning.

They woke up in the evening and went together to the well to fetch water.

The rain of boiling water lasted only a few hours; a couple of days after the clear sky, the land dried up and cracked again, but the underground water became richer.

With more water in the well, they naturally received a larger allocation; 401 could get two buckets of water.

Jiang Ning came down every day to fetch water and stored it in the space for irrigation.

The entire rooftop terrace was planted with drought-resistant sweet potatoes. The peanuts Doudou planted, along with vegetables, were taken care of by the little one with great care. She watered and shaded them every day, finally keeping them alive until they sprouted. But in less than half a day, the tender shoots were scorched by the scorching heat.

The little one was sad for a long time.

Jiang Ning could only console her and promised to plant seeds for her after the extreme heat passed.

After fetching the water, Huo Yishen was afraid of tiring her out. He effortlessly carried one bucket in each hand.

Jiang Ning didn’t even get a chance to help.

The water-fetching uncle smiled with many wrinkles on his face. “Little Jiang, you have a good eye for men. Commander Huo is really impressive.”

Jiang Ning smiled and followed behind Huo Yishen.

“Little Jiang,” He Tianming shouted from a distance, “Wait.”

He hurried over, panting heavily. “Something’s happened.”

Yang Weimin suddenly had severe abdominal pain and cramps. Jiang Ning was the only one in the community with medical skills, so they had to rely on her suddenly.

In the apocalypse, many grains and oils expire, producing aflatoxin, which can cause stomach problems and even death.

Yang Weimin was a good person, and since He Tianming asked, Jiang Ning decided to go and take a look. After all, practicing medicine required experience.

The deputy captain lived in Building 1, and he and He Tianming were neighbors. They usually got along well.

His wife had passed away during the extreme cold, leaving only him and his son to rely on each other.

When Jiang Ning arrived, Yang Weimin’s face was pale, and he was tightly clutching his stomach, gritting his teeth. “It’s, it’s nothing. It’ll pass.”

There was sweet potato congee on the table, but there weren’t many sweet potatoes, and even fewer grains of rice; it was clear enough to be used as a mirror.

A plate of diced dry sweet potato leaves cooked into a dish, presenting a black-brown color without a hint of oiliness. If you didn’t know, you might think it was pig feed.

Even so, in the context of the apocalypse, the food was considered decent. It should be noted that many people outside couldn’t even get to eat sweet potato skins, let alone the fact that there was also a small plate of fried squid on the table.

It was extremely hot now, and the dried sweet potato leaves couldn’t possibly become moldy. The sweet potatoes were also just harvested these past few days, so it was unlikely they had gone bad.

The community committee distributed Chen rice, which might have spoiled, but only a small portion was used for congee, so it couldn’t cause a severe food poisoning reaction.

Jiang Ning asked Yang Weimin’s son, “Does your dad have any other illnesses usually?”

Yang Jie, who was only seventeen or eighteen years old, looked extremely panicked at the moment. “No, he’s usually pretty healthy.”

In the past two years of natural disasters, the only lucky thing was that no major illnesses occurred; they had all managed to endure minor illnesses and pains.

Jiang Ning asked him about the location of the pain and ruled out acute appendicitis and intestinal obstruction. “Let’s wash your stomach and induce vomiting.”

“No, I’m fine.” The abdominal pain was like twisting knives, and large beads of sweat continuously dripped from Yang Weimin’s forehead, but he gritted his teeth and disagreed, “I just ate meat; I can’t vomit it out.”

He hadn’t eaten meat in half a year; it would be such a waste if he vomited it out.

Yang Weimin persisted, “The food is fine; both my son and I ate it.”

Jiang Ning asked Yang Jie, “Did you both eat exactly the same?”

“We did, but today is my dad’s birthday. I deliberately fried a plate of squid for him to taste. Could it be that I didn’t clean it properly?”
