Chapter 240: Earning Points
Chapter 240: Earning Points
Blood gushed out of his companion’s body, shocking him greatly and causing him to turn back subconsciously.
After a few seconds, he fell down with a plop, splashing countless droplets of water.
The two girls who were choked had their minds clouded with confusion. They lay in the pool, gasping for breath, their lips trembling in shock as they stared at the body in the water, unable to speak.
They later realized and glanced at the fully armed people on the shore, whose faces they couldn’t see clearly.
Jiang Ning, worried about Huo Yishen, turned away immediately.
Only then did the girls react, using both hands and feet to climb out of the water pool, trembling as they found a place to hide.
By the time she returned to the bamboo forest, Huo Yishen had easily dealt with several demons.
The room was in chaos, the air foul and murky. After rummaging around, they found several pounds of miscellaneous grains.
Jiang Ning drew her Tang knife and chopped off the locks of the two cellars.
On the left were six or seven women, disheveled and ragged, their eyes hollow as they sat on the ground, like zombies with no reaction.
On the right were boys, and from the fear in their eyes, it was evident they hadn’t been there long when they were captured.
As for the miscellaneous room… Huo Yishen didn’t allow Jiang Ning in.
The two didn’t linger, tossing the found grains on the ground before leaving with the dog.
“Wait.”
The two girls who had been choked by water cautiously emerged, their eyes pleading. “Can you take us out?”
“No.” Jiang Ning raised the crossbow in her hand. “You have hands and feet; you can walk by yourselves.”
“But…” one girl pleaded, “Outside are all bad people. Please help us.”
“I’m human, not a god.” Jiang Ning coldly refused. “I’m not saving you because you’re pitiful, but because I dislike them. Keep pestering, and I’ll send you down to keep them company.”
Seeing her heartlessness, they subconsciously looked at Huo Yishen again. They were shivering, their bodies soaked, and their eyes looked pitiful.
Huo Yishen said nothing and turned away.
The dog bared its teeth, it’s craving for smoked legs again!
Seeing the ruthlessness of the two and the weapons in their hands, the girls didn’t dare to follow rashly. One of them helped up a boy who had been scared and lost consciousness, and the siblings hugged each other, weeping bitterly.
Another girl with sharp eyes spotted the grain bags on the ground. She immediately bent down to pick them up, and upon seeing people coming out of the cave slowly, she turned pale with fright, clutching the grain bag and ran for her life.
After leaving, Jiang Ning didn’t take the route the demons had walked through, but instead took a detour through other mountains and forests.
After crossing two mountains, they found an abandoned quarry.
She pondered, “Do the villas in the new city area have compound walls?”
Huo Yishen hadn’t lived in a villa, but he guessed they didn’t.
Not only were there no compound walls, but they also had to solve the windows and doors by themselves. It was as simple as a blank house could get.
Without compound walls, it wasn’t safe. Jiang Ning squatted down to pick up stones.
Thus, the three humans and one dog spent the night at the quarry, picking stones for a day, collecting enough to build a three-to-four-meter-high compound wall.
Driving back to Aoyuan after a long absence, the guard who saw them was very happy. “I thought you guys moved out.”
Jiang Ning smiled faintly, “No, there was something going on at a relative’s house, and we went to help.”
Back at Building No. 5, the rabbits obediently returned to their nest, lying on the ground in frustration.
They were eating grass everywhere they went. Next time, don’t call them if there’s trouble!
After living in the mountains for a few days, the air was heavy at night, and they had to work during the day. After a few days of exhaustion, home was still the most comfortable.
After cleaning up from head to toe, they crawled into bed and fell into a deep sleep.
After a long sleep, they woke up feeling much more energetic.
After two days of idleness, Jiang Ning got busy again.
She delineated a plot in the space’s black soil garden specifically for planting Chinese medicinal herbs.
Each type of plant was spaced out, giving them ample room to propagate.
Especially the Polygonatum cyrtonema pointed out by Huo Yishen, Jiang Ning doubled her efforts to nurture it, wanting to see if it would truly mutate as it grew.
In less than a month, it felt like the Fengcheng River was almost being emptied by the diligent members of the Aoyuan. Every other day, large trucks would come to haul the river sand.
They didn’t want stones, as it was too fuel-consuming to transport them from here to Wangwan. Many survivors collected and smashed them near Wangwan, then used carts or wheelbarrows to transport them to the construction sites.
The scavenging teams searched all the surrounding areas that could be scavenged, but they only found distant places to search. There were several occasions when they almost got into fights.
If it weren’t for the mindset of sticking together to survive, it would be difficult to say if they could come back at all.
He Tianming specifically went to Wangwan. The new city area was already under construction, bustling with vibrant activity.
The authorities not only recruited refugees but also particularly needed workers with construction experience and young people who could endure hardships.
If the income from scavenging decreased, they could arrange for them to work as construction workers to continue earning points. At least they would be provided with food and accommodation.
Surprisingly, during this time of working tirelessly day and night, they had already accumulated thousands of points. It truly embodied the saying — “Many hands make the light work.”
It would take at least half a year for the buildings to be completed, but action was indeed necessary now.
With items stored in the space, if they were all handed over at once, it would attract too much attention.
After discussion, the two decided to gradually hand over the items in batches and at different times, and the points couldn’t be credited to a single person.
A villa required 50000 points, which Jiang Ning would take responsibility for. Huo Yishen and Doudou each saved up points for two rooms.
So, Jiang Ning took the dog, while Huo Yishen took his sister, and they set off for Wangwan in a large truck.
Surprisingly, there were quite a few people scavenging. Some were doing it to save up for a house, while others were doing it to exchange for survival supplies.
Materials were received by zones, and Jiang Ning handed over a truck full of rolled steel.
After soaking in the water for a long time, the steel was then placed in the black soil garden, where it oxidized and rusted over time.
To avoid suspicion, Jiang Ning also exchanged several buckets of mud and sprayed them with pesticide using a sprayer.
Rusty and muddy, it was unsightly to behold, yet it still drew countless envious glances.
Some of the staff were surprised, but they didn’t suspect too much, after all, they had seen more exaggerated things, with seven or eight cars being towed together, all belonging to rich people or former entrepreneurs.
Judging by her words and deeds, she was probably from a wealthy family as well.
After confirming that the materials were okay, the next step was to submit personal information, open an account, and weigh the points.
The staff smiled and reminded, “Take care of your magnetic card, don’t lose it.”
Jiang Ning put the card into the space and drove to the tile delivery area to find Huo Yishen.
Unloading tiles was a bit tricky, as they needed to be handled delicately.
The packaging was all torn and covered in a lot of mud, but after washing the tiles clean for inspection, their quality was excellent.
Before the disaster, this brand wasn’t something ordinary people could afford.
The warehouse attendant recorded the quantity. “Is there more? If so, I’ll designate a separate area for them.”
“Yes, about three trucks.”
The attendant was very happy. “Alright, please bring them over as soon as possible.”
Opening accounts and cards, all done with smiling service. “Next time, just find me directly, no need to queue.”
“Thank you.” But queuing was still better.
After delivering the goods, the two left in the truck and had lunch in a remote area.
After a short rest, they loaded two more trucks with stones for delivery, with the points credited to Doudou.
The dog, who had been lying in the truck all along, “…”
It knew it wasn’t getting any share!
