The Beginning of Natural Disaster, I Won by Hoarding Tens of Billions of Supplies

Chapter 285: Wife, Don’t Be Afraid

Chapter 285: Wife, Don’t Be Afraid

The new city wasn’t large, just under five kilometers west of town. Jiang Ning pedaled her mountain bike swiftly, covering the distance in less than 20 minutes.

The place was quite remote with no signs of recent fighting around, except for one sedan that was almost new.

Inside the car, two people sat. Ding Qi had taken a bullet to her arm, which was still lodged inside, causing her to lose too much blood and turn pale.

Zheng Weili bound her arm to stop the bleeding, even though she had multiple injuries herself. She’s also covered in blood, but she’s not in immediate danger.

In the back of the car were five bodies, all male.

It seemed there had been a fierce battle, and Zheng Weili and Ding Qi had emerged victorious, fleeing the scene in the car.

The most urgent task now was to remove the bullet from Ding Qi’s arm to stop the bleeding, as her life was in danger.

She had lost too much blood, and it would be risky to take her to the villa for surgery.

Jiang Ning took off her backpack. “I happen to have some emergency medical supplies with me, but not a lot.”

Under the cover of the backpack, she took out basic surgical tools, disinfectant, cotton, and sutures.

Zheng Weili had been cut with a knife, but Jiang Ning had already done some basic first aid on her. “My injuries are not serious. You need to save Ding Qi.”

As a patrol officer, their lives were always on the line, so they carried basic first aid supplies. They just hadn’t expected things to escalate to this extent, and now they didn’t have enough cotton or bandages.

They drove the car to a quieter corner. Zheng Weili stood guard outside while Jiang Ning performed surgery on Ding Qi inside the car.

Luckily, the bullet had not hit any vital organs.

She disinfected the wound, administered local anesthesia, and used surgical tools to extract the bullet…

Meanwhile, Zhang Chao and Lu Yu had nearly exhausted themselves to death.

When Zhang Chao heard that Ding Qi had been shot and was unconscious, his face turned pale. He anxiously stood guard outside the car. “What the hell happened?”

Zheng Weili hadn’t fully recovered from her illness, so for mutual support, the security team had assigned the two of them to the same group.

During their patrol, they encountered a clash between rival factions.

Whether they were leading or acting alone, survival of the fittest was the rule in apocalypse. Seeing the valuable resources, Ding Qi had planned to intercept and seize them.

Fortune favors the brave, and poverty is more terrifying than anything else. The four of them patrolled with their heads held high, all to get rich quickly.

When the opportunity presented itself, they couldn’t afford to pass it up.

They made a deal and didn’t expect the other side to be so well-concealed that they only pulled out their guns at a critical moment.

Fortunately, both of them were skilled enough to gamble with their lives and win.

Zhang Chao waited for half an hour before the car door finally opened.

He nervously looked at Jiang Ning. “How is Aiqi?”

“The bullet’s been removed, but she’s lost too much blood. Whether she can pull through depends on her now.”

Without a hospital, they couldn’t even transfuse blood. Now, they could only leave it to fate.

Zhang Chao was tense, staring at Ding Qi with concern.

Jiang Ning didn’t have time to comfort him. She hurried to treat Zheng Weili’s wounds.

Anesthesia was precious and beyond the reach of ordinary people. Gritting her teeth, Zheng Weili said, “My wounds aren’t serious. Just disinfect and stitch them up.”

Jiang Ning examined her wounds and began stitching her up for real.

She had limited supplies and Huo Yishen didn’t have much either. Who knew what kind of dangerous injuries they might face in the future?

Zheng Weili bit down on her handkerchief, sweat pouring down her forehead, but she didn’t utter a single cry of pain.

Lu Yu stepped forward and held her. “Wife, don’t be afraid.”

Thinking of his tolerance and care over the past two years, Zheng Weili remained silent, leaning quietly against him.

With the external wounds taken care of, the next task was to deal with the bodies.

They drove to a deserted area and disposed of the bodies in the mountains.

People died every day, everywhere. Even if they were found, who would come to investigate?

Lu Yu opened the trunk, revealing a box of medicines, a box of preserved meat, rice, salt, sugar, half a box of cigarettes and half a box of liquor.

The included medications are injectables and tablets from Western medicine, all of which have expired based on their dates. While some of the tablets might still be usable, their effectiveness would be lower.

The preserved meat was also aged, so whether you eat it or not depends on your courage.

Salt and sugar were valuable commodities, especially the sugar, which had been well preserved and showed no signs of spoilage.

Jiang Ning took out a thermos, mixed some sugar water, and gave it to Ding Qi and Zheng Weili to replenish their strength.

Staying in the wilderness for too long wasn’t advisable. Lu Yu drove them back to their residence, while Jiang Ning helped sort through the medications in the car, setting aside the usable ones and leaving the rest.

As for what to do with the car, everyone had their own survival rules, and Jiang Ning wasn’t foolish enough to inquire about that.

Zheng Weili took out a few bottles of medicine and two packs of sugar. “Anning, we owe you a lot today.”

These were given up for anesthesia and other medical needs.

They were all non-renewable resources, especially the anesthesia, but they could only provide so much. Jiang Ning wouldn’t even consider eating preserved meat or aged rice.

Knowing their personalities well, Jiang Ning didn’t refuse and accepted the supplies, packing them away.

Back at the apartment building, she briefed Ding Qi on what she needed to watch out for during her recovery and told her to contact her if there were any issues.

She rode her bike home, while Lu Yu went to deal with the car and expired supplies.

It was already early morning when she returned to the neighborhood. The curtains on the second floor were half drawn, and Huo Yishen was still awake, waiting for her.

Upon hearing movement, the dog rushed out to greet her.

They had agreed she’d be back before ten. “What took you so long?” Huo Yishen asked.

Jiang Ning recounted the events of the night.

Huo Yishen didn’t comment. Instead, he went upstairs to prepare a bath for her. “It’s getting cold again. You’ll feel better after a bath.”

After finishing up, it was nearly 2 AM. Jiang Ning crawled into bed and found that Huo Yishen had warmed up the sheets for her.

She kissed him and turned off the light to sleep.

Ding Qi was tough and managed to pull through. Even Jiang Ning admired her resilience.

After over ten days of recovery, Jiang Ning helped remove her stitches and didn’t forget to give Zhang Chao and Lu Yu what they most wanted.

She didn’t hide anything and told Huo Yishen the truth.

The items were collected by Jiang Ning, and he had no objections, keeping what he just needed for himself.

Not understanding these things, Jiang Ning kept everything that suited Huo Yishen and took some of the rest.

Surviving through sheer luck, thanks to Jiang Ning’s help, Ding Qi’s stern face softened a lot. “Anning, thank you.”

“You don’t need to thank me. We’re not strangers.”

After disinfecting and removing stitches, with Zhang Chao and Lu Yu at work and Zheng Weili away, Jiang Ning had no choice but to leave the two bags to her.

As an older sister, Ding Qi appeared indifferent when she saw what was in the bags. “This isn’t easy to find. What can I exchange with you?”

She had searched for it, and it was too expensive.

Unable to conceal such a large quantity, Jiang Ning told her the truth. “We were harassed by a criminal gang before and almost got blown to bits. In a fit of rage, we wiped out their hideout. We found these things as spoils of war. We won’t use them all anyway. If you need them in the future, just let us know.”

Due to extreme weather conditions, she had only taken six month’s worth. “The police station doesn’t know about this, so please keep it confidential.”

“Don’t worry, I’m not one to gossip.”

Ding Qi had done a lot of anti-crime work while leading her team and was very sensible.

The car had been taken care of, and they had gained some supplies.

Ding Qi brought out two large boxes of sealed ginseng. “There’s nothing much, but you can have this.”

Jiang Ning declined a few times before accepting.

Mutual giving and taking were essential for long-term relationships. Otherwise, developing habits of dependency could end up hurting each other.
