Chapter 536: A Strong Wind Meets a Storm, Thunder Crashes into Lightning
Chapter 536: A Strong Wind Meets a Storm, Thunder Crashes into Lightning
They prepared a large quantity of supplies since it would be used for building houses and exchanging land.
Besides, it was exactly what the base needed at the moment.
With so many items taken for free, the space was almost overflowing, and a lot of supplies were gathered in a rush. Even Jiang Ning didn’t know exactly how much she had.
Since she had some free time, she asked Huo Yishen to help organize the supplies.
When they were going through the things from the United Base warehouse, Huo Yishen vaguely remembered seeing boxes for solar power equipment. At the time, he just gave them a quick glance.
After searching for a while, they managed to find them.
The old ones they used before might expose them, so they switched to American ones and took two sets.
For traveling, vehicles were necessary. However, until they figured out Rong Sanshao’s intentions, they couldn’t use the Predator anymore.
Jiang Ning had her eye on the high-end military Humvees. There were five of them, each with performance comparable to off-road armored command vehicles.
The Americans certainly produced some quality equipment.
The only downside to these vehicles was the fuel consumption, so they had to prepare some extra fuel.
Since the submarine couldn’t fit the Humvees and fuel barrels, after some thought, they decided to load them onto the fishing boat instead.
Coming from the Arctic, a submarine and a fishing boat didn’t seem too out of place, right?
Luckily, the fishing boat wasn’t too small, so they managed to squeeze everything in.
A Humvee and several tons of fuel were covered securely with waterproof tarps.
Sorting through the supplies was tiring, and Jiang Ning collapsed into bed as soon as her head hit the pillow.
She woke up naturally the next day, and the two decided to have breakfast at the observation window.
There were no sharks in the coastal area, but there were still plenty of other fish.
It had been a while since Jiang Ning spent time underwater. The scenery, which she had grown tired of in the past, now seemed refreshing and pleasant.
After filling their stomachs, they checked everything again and made sure they had everything they needed.
Of course, they prioritized what they had gotten from the United Base.
Once everything was nearly ready, they began to stock up on their food supplies.
Since they’d have to live under the watchful eyes of others from now on, even if the Chief’s family were rich, they couldn’t let the smell of food drift too far.
Jiang Ning cooked rice and various steamed buns, while Huo Yishen took care of frying, grilling, and stir-frying.
To think he was once a disaster in the kitchen, but now he was a proper five-star chef. Time truly flies.
The journey back would take at least four or five days, even at the fastest pace.
It was their time alone, just the two of them with no Doudou or the dogs around. They could do whatever they wanted.
Perhaps this unpredictable new life reignited their passion and determination. A sudden and intense spark flared between them.
After months without intimacy, it was like a reunion on a magpie bridge or crossing oceans just to be together again.
Strong winds met the storm, and thunder clashed with lightning. They unleashed themselves completely.
Jiang Ning got so lost in the moment that she nearly forgot everything, waking up at noon the next day. Her entire body was sore and weak, as if even curling her fingers took effort.
Huo Yishen, on the other hand, was busy collecting fruit in the black soil flower garden.
Jiang Ning lazily flipped over and went back to sleep.
After three days under the sea, everything that needed to be done was done, and all the supplies were stocked up. It was time to head back.
Jiang Ning observed the water currents, which happened to flow toward Fengcheng Harbor.
In a pitch-black night, Jiang Ning stepped out of the submarine and set the fully loaded fishing boat into the water.
The boat, with its large load, drifted slowly along with the current.
The submarine set its engines to the lowest setting and followed behind like a turtle.
The distance to Fengcheng was only about 100 kilometers, so even if they drifted slowly, they would be able to reach the harbor after one night.
So, at dawn, when they were still over 10 kilometers from Fengcheng Harbor, the patrolling guards spotted them
With 360-degree surveillance, they noticed that the fully-loaded fishing boat was empty. Could this be one of those ghosts ships they hear about?
Just as they were puzzled and preparing to target the boat with their weapons, something slowly surfaced from the water…
“Could it be a whale?”
“Not sure, let’s take a closer look.”
As their view got closer, they realized it was a submarine.
And not just any submarine, but one specially made by the southern military factory. The guards immediately started cheering, “Another submarine’s here!”
Since Fengcheng had been established for over two years, dozens of submarines had come through during that time.
The sea patrol quickly sent out a signal.
The signal was part of their training, and Jiang Ning and Huo Yishen responded with sound signals: “We’re one of you!”
The Fengcheng dock was designed specifically so that no submarines from other countries could dock in their harbor.
The fishing boat, with its shallow draft, could easily get close to shore.
After some hand signals and communication, the fishing boat was allowed into the bay.
Once the submarine was docked, the two of them took the fishing boat over.
“Comrades, we’re residents of Fengcheng. We came earlier to get familiar with the base, and now we’ve brought supplies to settle down.”
The military personnel at the sea patrol post were surprised to hear this. They didn’t realize the two weren’t part of the Fire Seed Program, and asked, “How did you get your hands on a submarine exclusive to the Southern Military?”
Jiang Ning explained the whole situation.
After hearing the story, the soldier used the radio to contact the information desk. To their surprise, they confirmed that the pair was registered, but their identities weren’t ordinary.
They were the Chief’s daughter and son-in-law!
Not only were they given the green light for passage, but the soldiers also needed to help unload the supplies.
There was a lot of things, and moving it back to the city wasn’t going to be easy.
Jiang Ning noticed a military truck in the distance and casually asked the soldier, “Comrade, can we rent one of your trucks?”
This put the soldier in a tough spot. The truck was fine, but the real issue was fuel—fuel was more precious than life itself. Fellow soldiers had to carry supplies on foot to transport materials. Without approval from the higher management, no one dared to use vehicles privately.
Even though the two had special identities, the soldier’s duty was to obey orders.
So, he refused, “The dock has handcarts and wheelbarrows that you can use.”
Those old-fashioned tools? How long would it take to finish moving everything
Jiang Ning noticed his hesitation and suggested, “How about I trade some fuel for the truck rental?”
The soldier was both cautious and surprised, “Where did you get all that fuel?”
“It’s all on the boat.” Jiang Ning didn’t hide anything. “We came from the Arctic, and there are survivor bases of all sizes there. We’ve got whatever you need.”
Several soldiers boarded the boat and, upon lifting the tarps Jiang Ning had deliberately aged. They were stunned by the amount of supplies before them.
For the base’s safety, such a large amount of fuel couldn’t be brought in unless they had clearance from the proper departments.
They had no choice but to radio again to contact the headquarters.
After waiting for a few minutes, they received approval: Special permission granted, the paperwork would come later.
By the time half the fuel was unloaded, the shift change happened, and another team of soldiers took over the post.
“Sister, what are you doing here?” The voice was full of surprise.
Jiang Ning felt a headache coming on. He really was like a ghost that wouldn’t go away!
She forced a smile and looked at the officer in charge of the shift, “Rong Sanshao, aren’t you supposed to be busy with manure and farming?”
He didn’t feel embarrassed at all, “Sister, I’m on rotation.”
He’d been farming for the first half of the month, then had two days off before being sent to guard the bay.
“Sister, brother-in-law, where are you headed with all this?” Rong Sanshao noticed the military Humvee on the fishing boat. As a seasoned off-road enthusiast, he couldn’t hold back, “Damn, that’s the American Desert Beast, a limited edition!”
Thump, thump, thump!!!
His heart was racing uncontrollably.
Rong Sanshao’s eyes practically sparkled, “Sister, how did you get your hands on that?”
Jiang Ning rolled her eyes, “Focus on your post, mind your own business.”
The U.S. military wasn’t completely gone yet. She couldn’t exactly go around announcing through a loudspeaker that she had looted their supplies.
