The Beginning of Natural Disaster, I Won by Hoarding Tens of Billions of Supplies

Chapter 575: A Daughter of My House Has Grown Up

Chapter 575: A Daughter of My House Has Grown Up

Gu Tinglin was talking when Commander Xiao kept glancing over from time to time.

He was really worried about missing out.

But hey, not all fingers are the same length—so what if there’s favoritism?

Everyone’s biased to some degree. Who wouldn’t side with their own people? Constantly worrying about those who openly or secretly go against you, now that’s a problem.

Still, both father and daughter acted as if they didn’t notice anything.

They were in the middle of saying some comforting words when Xiao Wei suddenly started convulsing and throwing up. Commander Xiao panicked and shouted, “Doctor! Hurry!”

Medical staff rushed in and wheeled him away for emergency treatment.

Gu Tinglin went to check on the situation.

Taking advantage of the distraction, Jiang Ning quickly pulled a syringe from her pocket and injected it into Yu Changzheng’s arm.

Madam Yu was shocked at first, but caught on quickly. She stood up right away to block Jiang Ning from view, so no one else would see.

Jiang Ning had given Commander Yu a shot of steroids, hoping it could bring him back. He was one of Gu Tinglin’s most trusted right-hand men and had looked out for both her and Huo Yishen many times.

Without him, their special task team would’ve already been ripped apart.

So, Yu Changzheng was their shield. He had to be saved.

After the injection, Jiang Ning quietly handed Madam Yu a bottle of prepared medicine, suggesting she administer it according to the required dosage.

Madam Yu was grateful, but also worried that Commander Xiao might catch on and make things harder for both Gu Tinglin and Jiang Ning.

The only reason he insisted on putting his son in the same ward as Old Yu was because he didn’t trust Jiang Ning to stay impartial.

But Old Yu’s condition couldn’t afford to be delayed any longer, so a plan had to be made to prevent Xiao Wei from entering again.

Shu Xueqing wrapped up her work and grabbed a few bites to eat. When she heard Gu Tinglin and Jiang Ning had come by, she rushed over too.

She had just reached the door when Xiao Wei suddenly started vomiting and needed emergency care.

He already had pneumonia—if he aspirated on the vomit, it could easily kill him.

Madam Yu clenched the medicine bottle and slipped it into her pocket. She wanted to thank Jiang Ning, but Jiang gave her a look that said, “Don’t.”

Gu Tinglin had injured his back, and Jiang Ning, worried he might be uncomfortable standing for too long, accompanied him back.

Shu Xueqing had just finished work, so she gave them both a ride back.

On the way, she mentioned the situation with the Fire Seed Containers.

Thinking about how the containers, which held the blood, sweat, and brilliance of countless people, had sunk to the bottom of the sea, Gu Tinglin couldn’t help but sigh. But discovering oil barrels down there? Now that was exciting news.

Industrial development relies heavily on oil, especially for human bases that need to recover and revive.

If they had fuel, soldiers wouldn’t have had to march for miles, carrying Fire Seed materials on their backs.

“We have to find a way to bring everything back as soon as possible,” he said.

Jiang Ning agreed. With their current equipment and tech, drilling for oil was basically a fantasy.

She had just gotten home when Huo Yishen showed up with Doudou, fresh from the farm.

The temperature had suddenly dropped. Doudou had been running around nonstop—if her brother hadn’t picked her up, she probably would’ve just camped out in the break area and never made it home.

Good thing the greenhouse had heating pipes built in. Still, Doudou and Rong Dashao had urgently contacted the local authorities to try and get over ten tons of coal delivered.

Coal production had just started and was super inefficient, but thanks to He Tianming pulling some strings, they managed to get some delivered.

For the past few days, the workers had been living and eating at the greenhouse, taking turns tossing coal into the furnace to keep the crops from freezing.

Doudou was anxious, but the government was even more anxious. Many outdoor crops had frozen to death, and the greenhouse crops were their last hope.

She pulled a cloth bag from her hand and proudly took out some tomatoes, cucumbers, and edamame. Smiling, she said, “Sister, these all came from our farm!”

It’s not as good as the stuff grown in the space, but they used plenty of organic fertilizer, and since there was no drought or sandstorm, it’s still way better than the stuff grown outdoors.

Green vegetables, all-natural and harmless.

Jiang Ning felt proud of her. “Alright, we’ll use these to cook tomorrow.”

The little girl looked thinner, with dark circles under her eyes and a tired expression.

She brought out steaming hot chicken soup, braised pork ribs, and green vegetables, making sure Doudou ate her fill, took a hot bath, and rested.

“Sister-in-law, I’m fine.”

She was under a lot of stress, but seeing her brother and sister-in-law back home finally helped her relax. “It’s not just the farm that needs coal; our breeding center needs to stay warm too.”

The fertilized eggs were stockpiled back during the disasters. They carry natural resistance to harsh weather. The grown poultry don’t need much, just some boards and straw for shelter. But the newborn chicks? They need extra care.

Jiang Ning was surprised. “The breeding center shares have been settled?”

“Grandpa He helped negotiate. The base holds 20% of the shares, they’re providing land, tech experts, and energy. We get 80% and contribute our current poultry plus handle daily operations.”

The same goes for the farm. All conditions had been negotiated—just waiting for Jiang Ning to return and sign the contract.

Sounds simple, but everyone wants to maximize their cut. Even with He Tianming mediating, pulling it off wasn’t easy.

But she managed.

No impatience or complaints. She was growing fast, and her capabilities were expanding.

At that moment, Jiang Ning felt really proud.

A daughter of my house has grown up.

With her brother and sister-in-law back, Doudou felt supported again. She took a hot bath, turned on the room heater, and soon fell into a deep sleep.

She hadn’t slept that well in a long time.

Yu Changzheng had fallen ill, so inspection matters were put on hold. But when the transport ship returned, the entire base was in an uproar.

130,000 cubic meters of oil!

It first caused a stir among the upper ranks of the military—this was just… insane!

Like, damn?!

Was it really just luck the first time? And the second time too?

It felt like the base was about to take off, like riding a rocket.

They knew the special team was mysterious, but this level of divine favor? The person behind this… might as well be the gods themselves.

Everyone was dying to know the truth, but Commander Yu was unconscious, and their superior was still recovering from a back injury.

It was driving them crazy, but they couldn’t overstep either.

In the freezing cold, snuggling under the covers was pure bliss.

Doudou got up early and headed to the breeding and farming sites. The ruthless wolf and dog were with her. They were used to their freedom, so they would drop off their pups with the humans like dumping kids at daycare, then run off to play.

They treated themselves as farm guardians.

Finally having some alone time, Jiang Ning and Huo Yishen couldn’t help but get a little carried away…

By the time they woke up, it was nearly noon. The weather was freezing, so Jiang Ning used thermal fabric to make two sets of clothes—one for Gu Tinglin, one for Shu Xueqing—to keep them from getting sick in extreme cold.

She was often out and about, and illness doesn’t always show mercy.

She did what she could and left the rest to fate.

She went next door to eat with Gu Tinglin and gave him a massage for his recovery.

Afterward, he felt much better and suggested, “If you have time, go visit your Uncle Yu at the hospital. It won’t hurt.”

Jiang Ning was more than willing. “No problem.”

She pulled out two big containers of medicinal chicken soup from her space and walked with Huo Yishen to the hospital.

Thanks to someone’s help, Xiao Wei was still under observation in the ICU and didn’t end up sharing a room with Yu Changzheng…
