The Beginning of Natural Disaster, I Won by Hoarding Tens of Billions of Supplies

Chapter 611: A Welcome Feast for You

Chapter 611: A Welcome Feast for You

Jiang Ning was about to go on duty, and when Huo Yishen found out about Yu Yin’s identity, he decided to avoid any suspicion and didn’t stay in the room. Instead, he squeezed into a room with Huang Mao and the others.

Seeing that Yu Yin seemed uneasy and wanted to leave, Jiang Ning reassured her, “Stay here, it’s fine. He’ll sleep in a duty officer’s bed, it won’t be a problem.”

After leaving, she made sure to inform the leader of the survivors, “Her fever has subsided, but the low fever is recurring. She’s out of immediate danger and is staying with me for now. But don’t make it public.”

Jiang Ning didn’t want to cause any unnecessary trouble. After all, there’s always someone complaining about unfairness when there’s a difference in how things are handled. She didn’t want to be the target.

The leader understood right away, “Thanks, Comrade Jiang.”

They’d been traveling for several days and hit some rough weather, but they made it through safely.

They were now just over two hundred nautical miles from Fengcheng. The special salvage team split into two groups. Xu Kaitai and the others took the submarine to bring the survivors to shore, while Huo Yishen, Jiang Ning, and the rest were assigned a new task and would head back with the transport ship.

Before leaving, Jiang Ning reminded Xu Kaitai to take care of Yu Yin. “She’s Commander Yu’s daughter.”

Everyone was surprised. No wonder Jiang Ning had been so kind and looked out for her.

They quickly understood and promised to look after Yu Yin, ensuring not a single hair would be out of place. After all, she was the commander’s daughter, and the person who’d decide their promotions.

Jiang Ning thought back to that silly dog raised by the Americans. It gobbled up food like crazy, wagging its tail like there was no tomorrow, losing all dignity in the process. “Bring that silly dog back with you, too.”

At the mention of the dog, the team members suddenly became energized.

They were bringing back a new breed to the base.

The nuclear submarine submerged, and Jiang Ning and the others took two speedboats to leave.

They reached an uninhabited sea area and released the transport ship.

Everyone boarded the ship and ran around the deck a few times to stretch their limbs. They’d been cooped up for too long.

After getting their sweat out, they felt so much more awake.

Then, it was time to relax and play a round of mahjong.

The transport ship was slow, so no one was in a hurry to get back to Fengcheng. They first took a long nap, then played mahjong for a couple of days before leisurely heading toward the Fengcheng port.

The journey had taken a while, but they had plenty of gains to show for it.

The transport ship was a bit overcrowded, so Jiang Ning stored the supplies from the oilfield warehouse in her space for later use, planning to take them out when needed.

As they saw the dock from afar, everyone cheered. There’s nothing like the feeling of going home.

Huang Mao, who was waiting with binoculars, happily said, “Commander Huo, Sister Ning, the hills around Fengcheng look even greener!”

“Right? We’ve been gone for over three months.”

Mulberry trees, honeysuckle, and other trees that could withstand harsh weather had been growing strong, radiating the energy of life.

Compared to the wasteland desert, Fengcheng with its green patches really felt like paradise.

After docking the transport ship, Jiang Ning and the others took a speedboat to shore, remembering to greet the soldiers on duty. “Have any survivors arrived in the past few days?”

“Yes, two groups. One with around three to four hundred people, and the other led by Captain Xu.”

In the time they had been away, more Fire Seed submarines had arrived, along with survivors coming from all over. By now, nearly 200 more had arrived.

As Fengcheng improved, more and more survivors kept arriving.

Jiang Ning couldn’t wait to get home. As soon as she left the dock, the dog came pouncing toward her.

That stinky guy really missed her, waiting by the dock every day, leaving his wife behind.

The dog was so excited it couldn’t stop jumping all over Jiang Ning.

She squatted down, hugging it, and happily rubbed its head. “Coke.”

The car was in someone else’s possession, so Jiang Ning, along with Huo Yishen, walked into the city with the dog.

It had only been over three months, but everything had changed.

The air felt much fresher, and the roadside grass had grown taller and thicker, which was a pleasant surprise.

The weather seems pretty stable around here lately.

The road is full of tire marks, and in some soft dirt areas, there are potholes. It’s clear that large trucks have been coming and going often.

There are also bits of coal ash, gravel, and broken red bricks scattered in some places.

Looks like the base construction is in full swing.

Just as she thought this, a loud honk came from behind. Six trucks loaded with red bricks slowly passed by.

What surprised her was that the drivers weren’t soldiers, but ordinary survivors.

Seeing the driver’s proud expression, it seemed the military had handed over the base construction to the local government.

Gu Tinglin had kept his word, and the military was steadily transferring control. Fengcheng was gradually returning to the pre-disaster governance model.

When the driver spotted a dog by the roadside, he couldn’t help but stick his head out and greet them, “Commander Huo, Major Jiang.”

Jiang Ning didn’t recognize him, but he clearly knew who they were.

The driver was genuinely happy—really happy.

He never thought of trying to climb the ranks, but if it hadn’t been for their appearance, Fengcheng wouldn’t have changed so fast. And as a low-level survivor, he wouldn’t have had the chance to become a driver.

With this job, he didn’t have to worry about going hungry anymore.

He was genuinely grateful to the two of them.

Jiang Ning couldn’t help but wave back at him with a smile.

She didn’t expect her friendly gesture to make him even more shy. He hesitated and offered, “How about I give you two a ride?”

It was still a good distance to the city center—more than ten kilometers on foot, so it was quite far. But since the two of them had been cooped up in the submarine for so long, Jiang Ning politely declined. “No need, we’ll walk back and enjoy the scenery. You drive safe.”

“Don’t worry, Major Jiang, I used to drive a tractor.”

As one person greeted them, another followed suit.

After this short trip, it seemed the way the residents looked at her had changed, with a bit more depth in their gaze.

Jiang Ning wondered if Rong Sanshao was up to something again.

Along the way, the greenery spread out, with wildflowers blooming in the weeds. The dog even ran over to roll in the grass.

Whether it was humans or dogs, everyone was in high spirits.

With light steps, they reached home in just over two hours.

It wasn’t dark yet. The door next door was shut tight, but Bai Xue inside quickly opened it when she heard the noise.

A little white fluffball tumbled down the steps, “Woof… woof…”

So feisty.

Two brown and black puppies followed behind, “Woof… woof…”

Ah, it seems this guy had puppies again.

The dog ran over and gently handed one of the pups to Jiang Ning.

They were just over a month old, each weighing about a pound, plump and very cute.

And once again, there were three mixed breed pups.

The Hummer was parked in the front yard. The house was clean and neat, and the vegetables in the backyard were lush and growing well.

One patch had rapeseed, and the flowers on them were golden yellow. A few moths were quietly perched on the flowers.

These moths had lighter-colored wings compared to the last batch, so they were probably harmless, normal moths.

It’s really nice; the nature was slowly recovering.

Jiang Ning took in the fragrance of the flowers, feeling completely relaxed.

“Mr. Huo, do you think we’ve made it through?”

Huo Yishen smiled slightly, “Mm.”

Who knows? But living with hope and thinking positively isn’t a bad thing.

Back at the house, Jiang Ning took a hot shower in the space.

Afterward, she took a nap, and when she woke up, it was already evening.

She was just about to start making dinner when Rong Sanshao arrived.

Uh, looks like he came for a free meal at the wrong time.

But Rong Sanshao was all smiles. “Sister, don’t cook. Let me treat you tonight. I’m here to welcome you back.”

If he had known that Sister was coming back today, he wouldn’t have invited anyone.

Jiang Ning was surprised. Was the sun rising from the west today?
