The Beginning of Natural Disaster, I Won by Hoarding Tens of Billions of Supplies

Chapter 610: Surviving Through Cleverness

Chapter 610: Surviving Through Cleverness

Jiang Ning quickly fastened the straps, feeling the vibrations of the submarine. If it got too much to handle, she would have to retreat into the space and wait until the storm passed before coming out.

Huang Mao and the others were cooperating well; as long as there were no special circumstances, the observation windows stayed closed.

So even if they had to enter the space, the survivors wouldn’t know. They’d only wonder why the storm suddenly stopped.

But it was still a risky move. Jiang Ning wouldn’t take the chance unless it was absolutely necessary.

The submarine rocked constantly, her body slamming against the bed frame.

The sounds of the storm were muffled outside the shield, but Jiang Ning could still feel the intensity of the storm’s impact with her body…

The storm gradually seemed to ease off.

Until it finally settled down.

Jiang Ning let out a sigh of relief. She opened the door but was immediately hit with the smell of vomit.

Many of the survivors couldn’t handle the impact and were vomiting.

Jiang Ning covered her nose and mouth, carefully pushing through the dizzy survivors to the cockpit. “How’s the situation?”

Huang Mao and the others were there. “Sister Ning, don’t worry. With Captain Xu here, we’ve made it through.”

Jiang Ning was anxious. “What about 2688?”

The two submarines had been moving one after the other, so she was worried about Zheng Weili and the others.

Xu Kaitai quickly checked with the sonar. “2688 is behind us.”

It was a relief to hear that Zhang Chao and the others were fine. Jiang Ning relaxed. “I’ll take over. Captain Xu, you go rest.”

Xu Kaitai was indeed exhausted, so he didn’t argue.

They had endured the storm, but the ordinary survivors hadn’t been so lucky.

Some were vomiting, others had injuries, and many were just in shock.

Zhang Li spoke up. “Sister Ning, should we help them?”

Jiang Ning thought for a moment. “I have some hemostatic and anti-inflammatory powder. Give it to their leader. You should rest too. It’ll be a few more days before we reach Fengcheng, don’t wear yourselves out.”

There are many roads, but the driver shouldn’t be driving tired.

Zhang Li took the powder and handed it to the leader in charge.

Some people grumbled, but thinking about how they’d agreed to take them to Fengcheng without hesitation, no one dared to voice any complaints.

After all, what if they got angry and just tossed them into the sea?

The special salvage team also breathed a sigh of relief. Sister Ning had foresight. If they didn’t have the strength to handle the situation, they couldn’t pamper these survivors, or they’d be overwhelmed.

Over the next few days, their attitude visibly improved.

Dealing with different people really does require some skill.

Jiang Ning had just finished her shift and was heading back to her room when the survivor leader came knocking. “Comrade Jiang, one of our team members has fainted from a fever.”

Zheng Weili and the others had told them that if anything serious came up, they could turn to Jiang Ning.

If there was really no other choice, they wouldn’t have asked for help.

Jiang Ning asked, “What happened?”

“During the storm, a female comrade hit her head. The wound got infected, and she developed a fever. I only just noticed.”

Jiang Ning pushed through the crowd and saw a woman sitting in the corner. She was dressed in torn clothes and looked frail, probably around Jiang Ning’s age.

Her fever was high, and she was convulsing.

There were others who were injured, but no one else was as bad as her. They were just using external wound-stopping medicine to hold up.

With everyone watching, Jiang Ning couldn’t ignore her. She said, “She’s in critical condition. Let’s take her to my room.”

After all, this was a life at stake, and all the rooms were packed with people.

So, the woman was helped into the room.

Jiang Ning shut the door, gave her some quick-acting fever medicine, and began cleaning the infected wound.

The woman was delirious from the fever, muttering to herself, but it was too garbled to understand.

Seeing her so dirty, and worried about an infection, Jiang Ning quickly got a basin of water and helped her wash her face.

She was incredibly thin, but her features were still noticeable. If it weren’t for the natural disaster, she’d be considered quite a beauty.

Jiang Ning stared at her face, feeling like she had seen her somewhere before, but no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t remember where.

Maybe it’s just a common face.

Her body was too weak; no matter how much medicine she was given, it wouldn’t do much if her body couldn’t keep up.

Jiang Ning gave her a bowl of glucose water.

After washing her face, she rested on another metal-framed bed.

A few hours later, there was a faint sound.

Jiang Ning, lightly asleep, opened her eyes and saw the woman had woken up.

The woman seemed to realize Jiang Ning had saved her and quickly thanked her.

Jiang Ning looked at her face. “What’s your name?”

Facing her savior, the woman didn’t lie. “Yu Yin.”

“Yu Yin?” Jiang Ning furrowed her brow, then suddenly remembered. “Are you from a military family?”

Yu Yin froze for a moment before nodding. “Yes.”

“Which military division does your father work for?”

Yu Yin didn’t want to answer.

Noticing her wariness, Jiang Ning decided to be clear. “What’s your relationship with Yu Changzheng?”

Yu Yin was shocked. “You know my father?”

Jiang Ning smiled. “Not just know him—he’s our department leader.”

Looking into Yu Yin’s eyes, Jiang Ning finally remembered who she looked like—Madam Yu.

Yu Yin froze, and tears immediately filled her eyes.

Her father was still alive. What about her mother?

Seeing her thoughts, Jiang Ning smiled. “Commander Yu is doing well, and so is Madam Yu. They’ve been talking about you recently.”

It was hard to believe she was alive. This would probably make the couple incredibly happy.

Jiang Ning handed her two pieces of flatbread. “Eat something first. We’ll be in Fengcheng in a few days.”

Yu Yin was overwhelmed with emotion, gobbling down the bread, only to start coughing violently.

Jiang Ning quickly handed her a cup of water.

Yu Changzheng had never publicly acknowledged her, but whether it was out of military brotherhood with Gu Tinglin or in gratitude for her saving their lives, the couple had always regarded Jiang Ning as a daughter in their hearts.

The two families were close, so Jiang Ning knew a little about their family matters.

Yu Yin wasn’t in good health and had been studying abroad on her own.

The couple knew the chances of their daughter surviving were almost nonexistent, but they couldn’t bring themselves to accept it.

If they gave up all hope, they wouldn’t be able to continue.

They never expected a miracle, that Yu Yin was actually alive.

It was hard to imagine how she managed to survive.

After finishing the two pieces of bread, Yu Yin didn’t want to trouble Jiang Ning further. “Thank you, I’ll step outside for a bit.”

Saying this, she rubbed her hand on the floor and dirtied her face.

Jiang Ning understood—she had survived by being clever.

If she were an ordinary person, Jiang Ning might have said to just let it go, but she was Yu Changzheng’s daughter, so Jiang Ning would never let her go back out into the crowd, whether for personal or official reasons.

The environment was too harsh, and if she developed a high fever again, no one would even know.

“Before we reach Fengcheng, you stay here and rest. Get better first.”

She then made a cup of brown sugar water for her and comforted her. “By age and status, I should be your older sister. You don’t need to be so polite. Take care of yourself, and when you’re better, we’ll give Uncle Yu a nice surprise.”

Yu Yin, suppressing her tears, whispered, “Thank you.”

After drinking the brown sugar water, the sick Yu Yin quickly fell asleep again.

When Huo Yishen came back from work, he was stunned to find an unfamiliar woman in the room.
