The Beginning of Natural Disaster, I Won by Hoarding Tens of Billions of Supplies

Chapter 630: How are they doing?

Chapter 630: How are they doing?

The Special Salvage Team had previously recovered a batch of communication and computer networking equipment.

Lu Yu studied network programming and design.

With a little help from Rong Sanshao, he took on the project and started setting up the local area network for Fengcheng.

It took three months, but not only did the military successfully establish the network, but even the government’s network was up and running. The efficiency of both the military and government offices skyrocketed.

Thus, the Fengcheng Communications Department was born, and Lu Yu became its head.

Jiang Ning was happy for him, but she was also thinking of pulling out the ten smart military robots she had stashed away and having him modify them into her loyal followers.

If she could replicate them indefinitely, with mining, fighting, and all sorts of dangerous tasks, who would worry about finding people to do the work?

After chatting for a while, Zheng Weili and Ding Qi got up to leave. “Anning, thanks for taking care of the medicine, we’ll pay you back with points when the time comes.”

Jiang Ning wasn’t short on points. “It’s just some herbs. Keep your points for yourselves, and when you have kids, just let them call me godmother.”

If anyone had children in the future, who wouldn’t want Jiang Ning as their godmother?

That wasn’t just hugging the big leg, it was really relying on the Buddha’s feet.

Jiang Ning had everything, and Ding Qi said, “Anning, we’ve received so much from you, and we can never repay it. But if you ever need anything, just let us know. No matter what, we’ll always have your back.”

They were all smart people, and it was clear what she meant—they were all in the same boat.

Jiang Ning gave a subtle smile. “We’re all friends; it’s nothing special.”

The weather was hot, so they had the air conditioner running. The new Three Treasures squeezed in, happily enjoying the cool air.

Craving skewers, Jiang Ning munched on some while also pulling out a big tub of Arctic snow from her space for the Three Treasures to enjoy.

The little ones went wild with joy, rolling in the snow and howling with delight.

After a long day at sea, they awoke from their afternoon nap to the sight of the setting sun.

The temperature had begun to drop.

Jiang Ning, along with the ruthless couple, decided to take a stroll outside.

By chance, she bumped into Sharp-Mouthed Monkey who was selling goods, “Hey, miss, want some live chickens or eggs? You’re young, you should stock up for the future!”

After successfully selling two chickens and ten eggs, Sharp-Mouthed Monkey turned around and spotted Jiang Ning nearby. He quickly ran up to her. “Sister!”

Last night, Jiang Ning couldn’t see him clearly, but during the day, his thin and aged appearance stood out, making it look like he was running with a skull on his head.

Upon learning she was out for a walk, Sharp-Mouthed Monkey enthusiastically invited her, “Sister, my place is not far. Want to come over and sit?”

Jiang Ning, with nothing better to do, agreed.

They walked down two streets and arrived at a row of houses made from shipping containers, with old clothes hanging on wire outside.

Sharp-Mouthed Monkey opened one of the containers. “Sister, this one is mine, and the one next door belongs to the boss. The boss is out negotiating business and should be back later.”

Jiang Ning was a bit surprised. “You guys just arrived and managed to get a container. That’s pretty good.”

The number of red-brick houses was increasing, while fewer people were living in wooden shacks or broken-down cars. Shipping containers were no longer as scarce, but they were still in high demand.

Sharp-Mouthed Monkey expressed his gratitude. “It’s all thanks to you, Sister. Third Young Master specifically looked out for us.”

Jiang Ning paused for a moment, thinking that the second generation of slippers was becoming more and more capable.

Having been exposed to the sun all day, the shipping container was unbearably hot, almost like it could cook oil out of you if you stayed in it for too long.

The inside of the container was packed with things, but it was clean and organized, clearly the work of Wang Meili.

Sharp-Mouthed Monkey opened the door to let in some air. After a while, he invited Jiang Ning in.

He brought out some sweet melon that had been soaked in cold water. “Sister, I’m sorry to make you uncomfortable here. I don’t have much to offer, but this melon was picked from your farm.”

Sharp-mouthed monkey suddenly became a bit awkward, silently regretting inviting her in the first place. After all, this place was for the poor, and she wasn’t someone who should be here.

Jiang Ning, however, was easygoing. “It’s pretty good. You’ve achieved all this in such a short time.”

Hearing her praise made Sharp-Mouthed Monkey happy. “Sis, I’m not bragging, but compared to Huacheng, Fengcheng has way more resources and much more to trade. Just give me a year or so, and I’ll definitely get myself a nice red-brick house to live in.”

Jiang Ning believed him, especially since Fengcheng was developing rapidly.

Mentioning Fengcheng, she casually asked, “How’s Huacheng doing? Why did so many people suddenly come over?”

Talking about this made Sharp-Mouthed Monkey a bit emotional. “Huacheng’s actually doing pretty well. There’ve even been children born over there. ”

The headquarters remains on a man-made island in the sea, spanning over 20 square kilometers. Yet, most ordinary people still live in subdivided flats. While there are plans to build more affordable housing, limited resources on the island have slowed development.

There’s plenty of land available, though. Huacheng has plans to gradually relocate, but the trees and crops they’ve been planting haven’t matched the quality of those in Fengcheng.

He didn’t hold anything back. “That place is a national base. A lot of survivors have been arriving. By the time we left, there were already eighty to ninety thousand people…”

With more people, resources became scarce.

The more survivors there were, the more complicated the relationships got.

It wasn’t just the lower class. The military was the same.

The higher-ups didn’t actively target anyone, but they had their own children. Who would care more about orphans with no parents than their own kids?

Even parents are like that. If they cooked a plate of braised pork, who wouldn’t want their own kid to eat a little more?

Over time, it was natural for feelings of favoritism to grow.

Then suddenly, you find out your real parents are still alive—just thousands of miles away.

Now that the conditions were better, who wouldn’t want to return to their parents’ arms?

So, they didn’t hesitate to take the risk of crossing the ocean.

But everyone had different desires, and some chose to stay.

“Sis, Liu Cheng and the others are here too.”

As they chatted, the conversation naturally turned to familiar people. “I happened to be on the same submarine as the boss. We mentioned you when we were crossing the ocean.”

Jiang Ning smiled. “How are they?”

“They’re doing alright. They’ve been assigned to a unit, but I’m not sure where they’ll be stationed.”

When talking about people from Fengcheng, Sharp-Mouthed Monkey suddenly remembered someone. “Sis, do you know Zhong Ping?”

Jiang Ning paused for a moment. “The researcher?”

“Yeah.” Sharp-Mouthed Monkey nodded. “I used to sell him stuff. We got to talking and it turns out he’s from Fengcheng too.”

Jiang Ning couldn’t help but think of the Jinrong community. “How are they doing?”

“He’s a single father raising his son. It can’t be easy, but luckily he has a good job.”

Single father? Jiang Ning felt a pang of sympathy. It seemed Zhong Ping’s parents were no longer around.

“We’re from the same hometown, so we got close. He had to work and raise his kid, so he asked my beautiful wife to help take care of him. He gives us a fixed number of points each month.

“The kid’s smart, but his health isn’t great. He’s always getting sick.”

“He’s lucky, though. Every time he gets sick, he pulls through. The Huacheng base really cares about the kids. They make sure to treat them, and the child’s getting better.”

Sharp-Mouthed Monkey looked at Jiang Ning with even more admiration. “Sis, Zhong Ping said it was you who delivered and saved his son?”

Jiang Ning smiled. If Zhong Ping could talk about it so calmly, it seemed he had finally come to terms with the pain of losing Xiao Min.

“When we decided to leave, we even tried to invite him, but he refused.”
