Chapter 631: Young Master Rong Has Gone Missing
Chapter 631: Young Master Rong Has Gone Missing
Sharp-Mouthed Monkey could understand Zhong Ping quite well: “He’s a scientific researcher, with a stable job and special treatment. His son is growing up too, so he doesn’t want to cross the ocean and put himself through that hardship.”
To be honest, if it weren’t for Qin Mu insisting on coming, the boss might not have agreed either.
After more than ten years of disasters and turmoil, who doesn’t want a peaceful life? Traveling across the ocean is risky, and no one knows if they’ll make it safely.
But this time, they had made the right choice. In Fengcheng, they found a place that felt like home. Hopefully, they could finally settle down and stop drifting.
Being a middle man with wide connections, Sharp-Mouthed Monkey always had something to talk about. “Sis, do you remember Yang Jie?”
Jiang Ning did. He was Yang Weimin’s son. “Have they been reunited?”
Sharp-Mouthed Monkey nodded. “It’s practically a miracle. Yang Jie’s father drifted all the way to the Arctic and still managed to meet a rescue ship from Huacheng. It’s unbelievable.”
They were all curious at the time and tried to find out more.
But when it came to the details of the evacuation, not only did the military stay silent, but the survivors also didn’t want to talk about it.
What was even more unbelievable was that Young Master Rong had gone missing.
Luckily, the boss had his sources and found out that the warship had run into a storm on the return trip and suffered mechanical failure, eventually drifting to the Fengcheng base, where Young Master Rong decided to stay.
Young Master Rong was known for being shrewd and cunning—there had to be more to the story.
It wasn’t until they arrived in Fengcheng and heard the truth of the evacuation from his mouth that they understood.
Turns out, his sister was seriously impressive—she had become true hero.
Sharp-Mouthed Monkey was incredibly proud and determined to hold on tight to that golden connection.
While they were chatting, the ruthless guy suddenly ran out.
“Coke, what are you doing here?” A hoarse voice called out.
Sharp-Mouthed Monkey stood up. “Sis, the boss is back.”
He hurried out to greet him, happily saying, “Boss, guess who’s here!”
After so many years, Jiang Ning barely recognized him.
Qin Chuan wasn’t tall, and his looks were average. Despite being in his forties, he looked almost sixty, with half his hair already white.
She had seen the younger Qin Mu and always thought Qin Chuan had been doing well.
With his smooth ways, she figured as long as he survived, life wouldn’t be too hard for him.
If he hadn’t still been holding half a cigarette in his mouth, Jiang Ning might have thought she was hallucinating.
A lot of survivors were in rough shape. People in their 30s or 40s looked like they were pushing 60, with thinning hair and missing teeth. Still, she never imagined Qin Chuan would be among them…
When Qin Chuan saw Jiang Ning, he was equally surprised. His cigarette fell out of his mouth. “Sister-in-law.”
Ouch, ouch, ouch!
People really can’t be compared. She hadn’t changed much in terms of appearance, but her aura had become much more composed and grounded.
Jiang Ning greeted him, “Brother Qin.”
Sharp-Mouthed Monkey quickly welcomed the boss inside, all smiles. “Boss, did the deal go through?”
Qin Chuan nodded and, slightly annoyed, tossed him the keys. “Go get the tea from my room.”
Sharp-Mouthed Monkey hurried off.
Qin Chuan smiled warmly. “Sister-in-law, we haven’t seen each other in so many years. You still look as beautiful as a fairy. Brother Huo is really lucky.”
“Just stumbling through with a bit of luck,” Jiang Ning said humbly, then asked with concern, “What happened to your voice?”
“I got sick on the evacuation ship. A bacterial infection and a fever damaged my vocal cords.”
Qin Chuan said it lightly, but just thinking about it made Jiang Ning realize how tough it must’ve been. Countless survivors packed in a suffocating ship’s hold, starving, freezing, constantly on the lookout for bad people, with people dying every day. On top of that, he had to protect his son while being sick…
Qin Chuan clearly didn’t want to dwell on the past. He kept his tone light and flattering: “Sister-in-law, I’d already heard about you and Brother Huo back in Huacheng. I really had no other options, so I crossed the ocean to seek your help. Hope you can spare a bite for an old friend.”
Disasters really can break a person’s spirit.
Qin Chuan is someone who bends for a little profit, but he still has his own principles and beliefs.
Saying this, though, made things feel a bit distant.
“Brother Qin, I’m really glad you all came. Whether or not you choose to align with us, with your capabilities, you could survive anywhere.”
Jiang Ning smiled and added, “Fengcheng welcomes you. With you all here, I’m sure the business scene will take off quickly. But once you become the biggest client, don’t go making things tough for us small fries, alright?”
The conversation lightened up as they chatted about business.
Sharp-Mouthed Monkey came over with tea leaves, peanuts, and other snacks, enthusiastically saying, “Sis, these are from the boss, brought all the way from Huacheng.”
Jiang Ning wasn’t lacking anything, but she appreciated the gesture.
They ate and talked, and soon, Qin Mu came up in the conversation.
Qin Mu had been assigned to the Army Department as the team leader for the patrol squad.
Talking about his son, Qin Chuan felt a mix of emotions. He was proud of him but also deeply troubled.
He didn’t say much, but it was clear the old man was struggling.
After reminiscing for about half an hour, Jiang Ning suggested they get together for hotpot another time.
Qin Chuan stood up to see her off.
Noticing he had something to say, Jiang Ning didn’t turn him down.
At the intersection, Qin Chuan hesitated before speaking, “Sister-in-law, Xiao Mu’s got his head in the clouds. He’s always had high hopes, and back in the New City villa district, he was already quite fond of Doudou.”
As an old father, his heart was filled with bitterness. “It’s been so many years—I thought time would wash everything away. Who knew that boy would still be so stubborn? He’s deeply in love with Doudou. I don’t know… what do you and Huo Yishen think?”
Jiang Ning didn’t rush to respond and asked in return, “Brother Qin, what do you think?”
He answered tactfully, “Sister-in-law, Doudou is like the moon in the sky, and Xiao Mu is just a monkey trying to grasp the moon’s reflection in the water. There’s a vast distance between them.”
Qin Chuan had been young once and understood impulsive love. He got why his son was so persistent, but as a father, he didn’t want him to get hurt along the way.
These two weren’t just different in ability; their social status was miles apart.
He really liked Doudou. Who wouldn’t want such a daughter-in-law?
But having been humble for survival in the business world, Qin Chuan didn’t want his son to lose himself in a love that wasn’t equal.
A love like that can’t end well.
Jiang Ning could tell this wasn’t just casual talk.
“Doudou has grown up. Whether she likes someone or not, she’ll have her own thoughts and will make the right choice,” she said.
She didn’t give a direct answer, but Qin Chuan felt a bit more relieved after hearing that.
After talking about personal matters, Qin Chuan shifted to business. “Sister-in-law, are you interested in partnering up for some business?”
His mind was racing so fast that Jiang Ning was a bit confused.
“Fengcheng is growing quickly, and the plan to develop six cities is already in motion. I believe there will eventually be twelve cities, then twenty-four. Your farm and livestock should expand beyond just Fengcheng, but you and Huo Yishen have more important things to focus on right now. Some projects aren’t suited for rapid development or personal involvement at this stage.
But for me, it’s all business. I can set up a company, bridge the gap, and offer benefits to various cities. With that, their guard against you will lower.”
He paused and added, “In a few years, business will be all over this continent, and food supplies will be abundant everywhere. I’m not sure if you’re interested in something like that?”
