Chapter 714: 714 - Delicate things break easily

[Over the next two days, there will be an extra Chapter of CDG to make up for the day I didn’t post.

I was thinking of just posting five Chapters of CDG today, but honestly, three Chapters over three days amounts to the same thing and is much kinder to my sleep, hahaha.

Anyway, enjoy, and thank you so much for reading!]

"So, brother-in-law, what’s been going on with you? Your human scent has almost disappeared, and the draconic scent is much stronger than before," Bai Hu Lie asked.

He sniffed the air once more, his nostrils flaring as a cheerful smile spread across his feral face, confirming what his senses were telling him.

For a human, noticing such a difference would be nearly impossible. But for a beast like Bai Hu Lie?

Scent was a major part of how they distinguished friends from enemies, and how they identified one another.

Even though they behaved far more civilized than their fully animal relatives, it was still an important part of their society. Each member could detect one another from hundreds of meters away using nothing but their sense of smell.

The scent of draconic blood in Qingyi was far stronger than before, without a doubt.

And the stronger Qingyi was, the more worthy his great battle in the tournament would be.

"I’ve made a small discovery recently, Brother Bai Hu Lie," Qingyi said, nodding with a slight smile.

He had many wives who came from the beastfolk, so he didn’t find it strange that Bai Hu Lie could notice the difference.

His own sense of smell had grown much sharper than before, but he hadn’t yet learned to use it to identify another person solely by scent.

He could detect his wives, yes, but only because he interacted with them daily, their scents already deeply imprinted on him.

Not that this was particularly useful.

Even the beastfolk trained that ability more out of tradition than necessity.

Qi senses were still far more efficient, at least at such a high level.

"A small discovery, huh?" Bai Hu Lie’s eyes narrowed, gleaming with curiosity.

"Well, never mind. Those bastards from the central region must think they’ll dominate this tournament easily. I can’t wait to see those smug little smiles when I rip their hearts out with my claws!"

"Oh... so they’re really that weak, brother-in-law?" Qingyi smiled.

Bai Hu Lie froze for a moment, processing the words.

When he finally grasped the meaning behind the taunt, his face filled with indignation, and Qingyi burst into laughter.

"Weak? You..." Bai Hu Lie crossed his arms and lifted his chin arrogantly. "You’re lucky this venerable one is in a good mood! Otherwise, I’d give you the same fate they’ll meet!"

Qingyi merely shook his head, amusement still painting his face. "Shouldn’t we go see your father and your sister? It would be a shame if I met this terrible end without even seeing my future wives first."

Bai Hu Lie nodded.

"Yes, my father is desperate for some grandchildren. Now that only my sister and I remain, and I have no interest in marrying a woman who can’t at least hold her own against me in combat, the burden of producing those little grandchildren will fall solely on you, brother-in-law."

"Ah... looks like you’ll have to go look for your wife in the central region, then. I highly doubt you’ll find a woman like that around here," Qingyi said, the image of Chen Wei’s mother popping into his mind.

If he elevated her lineage and constitution to the divine level—the same level as Bai Hu Lie’s lineage—she’d probably be to the tiger’s liking, wouldn’t she?

He highly doubted any woman less burly than that monster of 150 kilograms of pure muscle would catch his brother-in-law’s eye.

After pondering that for a moment, he laughed at himself.

That idea was stupid.

Bai Hu Lie wouldn’t be interested in any woman who wasn’t a beast herself.

"Maybe there’s someone worthy in the central region... yes..." Bai Hu Lie scratched his beastly chin upon hearing Qingyi’s suggestion, his eyes gleaming as if the possibility had planted a seed in his mind.

"Alright, I’m heading to the central region as soon as I finish this damn tournament! My wife could only be in such a noble place, hahaha!" The tiger roared with laughter, pounding his chest with a heavy thud.

"Come on, my sister must be excited to meet you." He motioned for Qingyi to follow him.

"Honestly, I don’t know why she’s interested in such delicate humans. You should introduce yourself to her in your beast form, your true form! Only then might she understand the true power of our superior form."

"Women are delicate things, brother-in-law," Qingyi smiled.

The fact that Bai Hu Lie knew Qingyi possessed a complete draconic form didn’t strike him as strange at all.

Dragons, despite taking human forms, were still primarily four-legged winged beasts.

It would be strange, indeed, if Qingyi didn’t have a true form.

"Ah... delicate things break easily. My sister doesn’t break, but if you’re not careful, I guarantee she’ll break you! Hahahaha!" Bai Hu Lie laughed, scratching his forehead.

There was a small bump there, a remnant of a punch he’d received from his sister about two weeks ago.

It had taken him two days to recover, and even after all that time, the spot still ached a little.

Qingyi just smiled slightly.

The more he heard about Bai Hu Lie’s sister, the more interested he became in her.

He just hoped she had good traits, especially the faithful trait, which he had established as a basic requirement for her to become his wife.

Honestly, he was almost certain she possessed it.

In the end, the faithful trait seemed to be closely linked to a cultivator’s ability, origin, and worth.

Even the level of one’s lineage seemed to influence it.

Among mortal women, the rate at which the trait appeared was barely two percent. But over forty percent of women with a lineage of at least the Eternal Grade possessed the faithful trait.

Qingyi wasn’t sure, but seeing how high-level male cultivators were even less likely to have harems compared to rich mortal men, he believed that men also possessed this trait in the same proportion.
