The Corruption Dragon God: Lust System

Chapter 717 - The Resurrection Ceremony (01)

Chapter 717: 717 - The Resurrection Ceremony (01)

"Is all this protection really necessary?"

The voice of Guo Lingyun, patriarch of the Guo family, echoed coldly through the hall.

He wasn’t happy about losing his two sons, but what could he do? Fortunately, at least he wouldn’t have to sacrifice his own planet.

A vassal world of the Guo family, located in the same planetary system, had ultimately proven sufficient for the ritual.

In total, that world was home to eighty billion mortals and just over nineteen billion cultivators.

Individually, they were insignificant flies. Together, however, they represented an absurd amount of souls and spiritual power.

Just thinking about it was almost enough to make Lingyun forget the deaths of his children.

"It will be necessary because your children failed."

The old demon replied with a harsh, dismissive grunt.

"Those two girls would have been perfect conduits for the master’s resurrection. Without them, we’ll have to resort to a cruder method."

"Cruder?" Lingyun’s eyes flickered for a brief moment. "Is there a chance of failure?"

"No, it won’t fail. We have more than double the souls needed for the sacrifice."

The old demon smiled faintly as he adjusted one of the arrays, his dark fingers dancing over the glowing symbols.

At the center of that formation lay the wretched figures of the planet’s Lord and the majority of cultivators above the Cosmic Domain realm in that world. Just over twelve hundred in total.

They were chained, faces contorted in a mixture of horror and resignation.

"The problem is that, as soon as we initiate this formation, all the demons within a vast area around us will experience an adverse reaction."

The old demon continued, his voice heavy with gravity:

"Their demonic Qi will react to the Qi of their primordial after so long without having her nearby. Because of this, they will suffer terrible reactions.

Most won’t die. But I, being so close, probably wouldn’t be able to escape without proper protection.

The resurrection process could take several months, and if I end up dead in the middle of it and the ritual becomes destabilized..."

He paused heavily before concluding:

"You already know what happens, don’t you? All those years of preparation for you, and the millions of years of waiting for me—it would all go down the drain."

Hearing that, Guo Lingyun nodded heavily.

Naturally, he knew very well who was about to be resurrected.

The Primordial Demon Empress.

The woman who had led the entire demon race toward the celestial heavens millions of years ago, before being assassinated by her most loyal servant, now known as the Heavenly Demon.

Lingyun still clearly remembered the day the old demon announced that he himself was the prophesied husband of one of the highest existences in all of the celestial heavens—no.

Considering that she had been crippled before, and that she would now return with her Dantian intact, albeit with reduced cultivation, she would likely need only a few years to become the ruler of the entire celestial heaven.

Lingyun was a proud man and did not like the idea of depending on a woman.

However, if that woman possessed such an origin, he didn’t mind one bit.

That was a woman for whom countless men would gladly die just for a single touch.

The fact that he was destined to become her husband, to have her for all eternity in a prophecy she herself had created—a prophecy she naturally wouldn’t deny—filled him with deep satisfaction.

Being destined to avenge her death, that is, to kill the Heavenly Demon, only made him even more excited.

This meant that the heavens were preparing something great for him, right?

’Long Qingyi... Bai Hu Lie... all those sects that dared to despise me... prepare for death!’

Lingyun declared arrogantly in his mind, the corners of his lips curving into a predatory smile.

He would avenge the deaths of his children and become the Demon Emperor!

The old demon, sensing Lingyun’s thoughts, let out a silent sigh.

He knew all too well what the patriarch of the Guo family was thinking, and the illusions with which the man was deluding himself.

He couldn’t blame him; after all, he himself had planted those illusions in the patriarch’s mind.

Lingyun was destined to die at the hands of a bearer of the primordial chaos Qi, and he had misinterpreted that prophecy.

In the end, through the bond he had established while nearly dying trying to read the fate of that young dragon, the old demon already knew who the true prophesied one must be.

Long Qingyi. The one who would avenge his master and become her eternal consort.

He was ninety-nine percent certain that Long Qingyi was the bearer of the Chaos Qi.

His master, capable of reading destiny at a level far superior to his own, could not be wrong.

"I will begin now. Step back and watch."

The old demon finished arranging the formations.

There were twelve in all.

The first five were for stabilization. Two more, drawing on a remnant of the Primordial Demon Empress’s soul, would seek out the other fragments scattered through the wheel of reincarnation and force them to unite.

Normally, such a method wouldn’t work, since souls were usually cleansed as soon as they reached the wheel of reincarnation.

The soul of a primordial empress, however, was different.

Unless it was physically destroyed by a being of equal power, it merely hibernated. And as long as all the fragments of her soul remained intact, those pieces could easily be reunited again.

The remaining five arrays served precisely to ensure that those parts were in order.

Two of them would ensure that her soul and memory were fused intact. The other three would guarantee that the more than one hundred billion sacrifices generated a body of sufficient quality.

The old demon inhaled deeply, exhaled slowly, and then his eyes shone with a sinister glow.

A powerful crimson energy surged into his hands, coursing through his arms and pouring around his body in wild torrents.

The symbols of the formations responded in kind, blazing to life one after another.

At that moment, the entire planet trembled.
