Chapter 560: Servants of the Goddess
Chapter 560: Servants of the Goddess
"Oh, Goddess of the Abyss, could you tell me why you require my insignificant presence?" Baeh’Wa, one of my servants, comes to see me.
She’s a girl with long white hair, dark purple eyes, and skin that is literally black, with numerous closed eyes scattered all over her body. Physically, she looks like any humanoid, except for her black skin and her hundreds of extra eyes. When she takes damage, her body turns into a black sludge, losing its solid state.
She was the base I used to create Pandora’s black slime, which is extremely malleable. Because she’s loyal and not very "active," she’s the servant I call upon most often to do things for me. And although her birthday is 1.5 billion years old, she’s neither strong nor weak.
Being one of the few servants of mine that isn’t an Apex Predator, and because she isn’t a top predator, she’s more reclusive.
"I called you here to give some help to my daughter, Pandora. You can find her in a few days."
"Ah-Ah-Ahhh!! C-Can I really have such an honor? W-Won’t she devour me like she devoured Zhian’Thar and Tsukiyo?" she says, frightened. But despite her fear, Pandora currently doesn’t stand a chance against Baeh’Wa.
Because Baeh’Wa is easily the most resilient monster in the Abyss when it comes to survivability.
She may not have the power to defeat Pandora, but she wouldn’t die either, no matter what. It would take a Pandora of at least level 20 billion to even find a way to kill Baeh’Wa.
"She won’t kill you, don’t worry so much. Now stop with the fussing; it’s annoying. Does it really matter if Pandora wants to kill you or not? You serve me, and if I ordered you to die, you would, just like that."
"Don’t test my patience."
"I-I’m sorry, I-I’ll do my best, b-but I don’t understand how I could help, I’m so weak."
"You’ll help with absolutely anything. If Pandora asks you to get her something, you get it. If Pandora wants to use you as a punching bag, you accept it. If Pandora wants to fuck you, you open your legs. No matter what it is, do everything for her, even if it destroys your body. You’re only alive because I allowed it." They were going to kill her.
But she was useful. I needed a base for the general defense of Pandora’s body, and her black slime was very useful for me to model it on. That’s why I sent them after her and saved her just in time. Without me, she’d be dead, being devoured by an Apex Predator.
"This is your function." Pandora is always surrounded by maids and people to serve her, but I don’t have that many people in this castle. There’s a very limited number of beings here.
So the most I can give Pandora is a single one of my servants to serve her, and that’s already a lot, considering Azraelith does everything alone.
"I-I will do whatever you wish..." She kneels, pressing her face to the floor.
"For now, go stay near Azraelith and wait," I say, waving my hand for her to leave. She promptly runs off as if she were fleeing from me.
"Things have gotten more lively around here, don’t you think, Echidna?" I hear a voice echoing through the castle. It’s my "friend," or rather, my most bold and arrogant servant, who treats me as casually as if we were old friends.
"...."
"You know, my sweet babies are wandering around out there, so I’m so lonelyyy!! From what I can see, you still don’t like your first daughter, while your affection for your second daughter has skyrocketed! You’re so selective! I totally get you! It’s complicated to waste resources on fruitless children when you have a perfect child."
"You were wrong when you questioned Pandora’s reliability in the past. Even now, she remains my loyal daughter who will fulfill my wishes." I ignore what she says and state this.
This is the same servant who spoke to me when I was in the [Void Universe] after being summoned to the goddesses’ meetings, and it’s truly ironic that after all these years, she’s still alive.
"Are you really going to ignore me like that? I’m hurt..." The floor of my castle emits a faint, gooey purple stain, as two pale hands emerge from within the puddle. "She" begins to drag herself out.
Her name is Therytar, and as far as I know, her level is 3 billion, making her one of the strongest in the Abyss, and clearly arrogant because she’s one of the few with perfect access to locations within the Abyss.
She’s the only being who can "teleport" from one point to another using markers made from her own flesh that she sets up in advance.
Her long purple hair and golden eyes are what stand out the most. Unlike most monsters in the Abyss, which have more neutral colors for camouflage, ranging from black, white, and gray, she is completely vibrant in her colors.
A warning about how noxious and poisonous her body is. She’s only 150 centimeters tall, so she’s quite short for someone with so much pride. Floating behind her back is a large, 2-meter eye. This eye has a blood-red pupil, and it was on her that I based the creation of Pandora’s general adaptation aspect.
Since she has adaptation to the basic environment. They aren’t the same adaptations, but I used what I learned from her body to create the adaptation for a Tenebris Abyssus.
She’s naked, so her breasts and physique are quite visible, not that there’s much to see since she’s small in feminine attributes.
"I’m here, friend!!" she says, all proud, while I roll my eyes.
"You didn’t bring your children this time, did you? Those pests from last time bit and tore a piece off the throne room door." There are no people to fix the damage in this castle, which requires me to repair any damage myself.
Although it’s easy to repair with magic, whenever I use my magic, the entire Abyss trembles and becomes unstable. This is precisely the reason why I’m so limited to taking a long time to create a single Tenebris Abyssus egg.
Because it uses so much magic that the Abyss would collapse if done quickly and without the necessary care.
Pandora has no idea how complex the creation of her race is, and I will never teach her, because I know Pandora might try to create one, and I don’t want any more being created.
And Pandora will never be able to discover the "blueprint" on her own, since her body has already changed so much compared to the initial version.
’The time between the creation of Azraelith and Pandora was about 8 to 9 thousand years in general, but that’s in outside time...’ Here in the Abyss, the egg of Azraelith and the egg of Pandora had a time span of over 320 billion years between each creation. A long time, really showing the complexity and why there aren’t many.
"No!! Goddess, it’s been many years, you know? All my cute babies have grown up... how sad... would you believe they tried to eat me? Of course, I ate them first, but still, only one of them escaped alive." Although what she says sounds bad, it’s normal for her species, so I’m not surprised.
Her species always tries to devour, physically and sexually, their progenitors, whichever comes first. From the way she talks, it seems her children tried to kill her and devour her corpse, but obviously they failed, so she killed them, and those who fled got a chance to prosper.
I almost made the Tenebris Abyssus race have that trait, but it would conflict with their absolute worship of maternal figures. Besides, Tenebris Abyssus don’t have large numbers of children at once, so doing that would be stupid.
Therytar has dozens of children at a time, sometimes hundreds if she’s lucky, so her race has the luxury of being able to lose a portion of their heirs as long as one or two survive.
"What did you really come here for? I didn’t call you."
"I know, I know, it’s just that I’ve had my eye on your daughters ever since they entered the Abyss."
’Is she making a pun with her giant eye? How lame.’ I roll my eyes at her, who can be so pathetic sometimes.
"I still don’t trust your daughter, you know? That girl Pandora has a dangerous mentality when she’s in combat. I watched her kill Zhian’Thar, and it was honestly disturbing."
"Oh? And what was disturbing about it?" I lean forward, interested, because in the end, Therytar is very good at analyzing everything and learning from what she’s analyzed.
"Her growth. That is abnormal, even for a thing created by you. She didn’t even have a chance to beat Zhian’Thar at the beginning of the fight, and within minutes of fighting, she already had a chance."
"And with a little more time, she grew to the point of being able to kill Zhian’Thar. That is completely against any natural balance of power. Zhian’Thar, who was extremely fast and had the advantage..."
"...was surpassed in her own fighting style, with Pandora becoming faster than her. I know the speed of light isn’t surprising and several of your servants can be that fast."
"But the speed of light isn’t very stable to use in combat since bodies can still be destroyed. Pandora, on the other hand, achieved a speed faster than light without the cost of overload or instability."
"I know your goal was to create something that would do that, but this fast? What guarantees that she won’t become a threat to you?" she questions, sitting on the floor.
"..." I stare at her in silence for a moment, savoring the taste of victory. After all, even the monsters of the Abyss see how perfect my daughter is.
"...You wouldn’t understand," I tell her. She wouldn’t understand how perfect my construction was. Pandora is incapable of betraying me, because adaptation wouldn’t remove the "imposed loyalty" factor within her, as adaptation only serves for things that are a problem.
And being loyal to me is not a problem at all, unless I tried to kill Pandora in a fight and gave her too much time, and maybe her body would change so it no longer needed that specific construction.
But I didn’t create Pandora thinking of destroying her when she did what I wanted. I never planned to kill Pandora or relate to her in any way other than a Mother-Daughter relationship, and betraying her has never even crossed my mind at any point.
And Pandora has also never thought of doing anything beyond that with me, because there is no real reason or need for our mother-daughter relationship to go any further.
It’s true that I took a little advantage of Pandora’s feelings regarding hatred, revenge, and the desire to have a family, but that’s something she herself knows I did.
"Sure, sure, friend. You know your children best! But I will never trust something that changes so fast and grows in such an abnormal way."
"Besides, I really just came here to inform you of something interesting. As you asked, I looked into the fundamental changes that Pandora and Azraelith have caused by existing in the Abyss." She begins to explain what the presence of the two has done in the Abyss while I just listen, uninterested.
Because everything is within how I predicted the Abyss would change, since now there are two beings so powerful, just below me in power.
