The Epic Tale of Chaos vs Order

Chapter 2659: Surpassing the Overseer (I)

Chapter 2659: Surpassing the Overseer (I)

Cain flashed forward with a wide smile as exhilaration burned in his eyes, because the first clash had already revealed just how much his talent and potential had risen since the last time he stood within this battlefield.

His transcendence into an Apex Race was not merely a change in title. It was a true qualitative leap in every aspect of his existence, one that elevated his body, soul, perception, and affinity with the Flow to heights that his younger self would not have been able to comprehend.

However, no matter how powerful the Scarlet King had become, hesitation and fear did not exist within the Overseer.

The metallic guardian surged forward as well. Its purpose was absolute. It existed to test those who sought to pass into the next ring, and whether that challenger was a genius, monster, or Apex Life Form meant nothing to it.

If Cain wished to advance, then he would have to prove that his mastery of the Flow surpassed the trial left behind by the Red King.

The two figures collided once more.

Their fists crashed against each other with such force that the golden sky of the Seventh Ring erupted into waves of light.

Cain twisted his body and sent a kick toward the Overseer’s head, but the metallic guardian partially fused with the Endless River, causing its figure to blur as it shifted a few inches away from the path of the strike. It then countered with a palm aimed at Cain’s chest, its movement carrying enough momentum to pierce through the body of an Alpha Omega Overgod, yet Cain had already seen the ripple in the Flow and leaned aside before the blow could fully manifest.

Their speed continued to rise.

Each movement drew more and more momentum from their partial fusion with the Endless River, and each burst of strength was reinforced by the Light of the Flow coursing through their bodies.

They were not merely moving through space. They were flowing alongside a higher current of existence, using that current to reduce the delay between thought, intent, and action.

The battle became increasingly intense as hundreds of exchanges unfolded in a matter of moments.

Cain attacked with fists, palms, elbows, and knees, his movements sharp and fluid, each strike carrying the weight of his Apex Hybrid Body and the profound rhythm of the Flow. The Overseer responded flawlessly, its metallic frame shifting with impossible precision as it blocked, redirected, and countered with martial skill that seemed carved into the very laws of the Sacred Dimension.

Finally, after countless exchanges, Cain found an opening.

It lasted less than a fraction of a heartbeat.

The Overseer thrust its palm toward his throat, attempting to pierce through his defenses with a direct strike, but Cain’s golden eyes narrowed as Synchronization allowed him to perceive the intent behind the attack before the movement was complete. His body bent backward, the palm passing above his face by the width of a hair, and in that same instant his fist rose like a golden meteor, landing directly against the Overseer’s face.

"BOOOOOOM!"

The blow sent the metallic guardian crashing into the ground with enough power to shatter the head of a normal Alpha Omega Overgod.

Yet the Overseer recovered almost immediately.

Its body twisted in the crater before the dust could even rise, and with a flawless movement it adopted a sprinting posture, extending its right hand. The massive double-edged polearm trembled for a moment before shooting toward its grasp like a streak of golden lightning.

The moment the weapon landed in its hand, the Overseer vanished.

Cain smiled as he extended his hand as well.

The black blade flew from the crystalline ground and flashed into his grip just as the polearm descended toward him. Cain raised the weapon with perfect timing, and the edge of the blade met the massive polearm in the air.

The weapons collided.

A burst of golden energy exploded outward, sweeping across the Seventh Ring as Cain and the Overseer locked eyes.

This time, the battle changed.

The first part had been a contest of physical strength and movement, but now their understanding of the Flow began to manifest in its most refined forms.

The Overseer’s eyes glowed brighter as Synchronization activated to its highest level, allowing it to perceive the ripples in Cain’s energy, muscles, and intent before each movement fully emerged.

Cain felt the pressure immediately. Every time he prepared a slash, the Overseer’s polearm was already moving to intercept it. Every shift of his stance was read before it completed. Every attempt to alter rhythm was countered before it could become decisive.

Yet Cain was not inferior.

His own Synchronization surged to meet the Overseer’s, and the two warriors entered a state where both were constantly reading the future movements of the other through the Flow. The battlefield became a place where prediction and counter-prediction overlapped, where attacks were avoided before they began and defenses were established before the enemy’s weapon had even moved.

Cain slashed toward the Overseer’s neck, but the polearm rose before the blade fully descended.

The Overseer thrust toward Cain’s heart, but the Scarlet King stepped aside before the weapon completed its path.

Cain spun and attacked from below, only for the Overseer to shift its weight and lower the shaft of its polearm in advance.

The Overseer attempted to sweep his legs, but Cain leaped before the movement was complete and descended with a heel strike wrapped in golden light.

Every move was answered.

Every answer was countered.

Neither side could gain a true advantage through Synchronization alone.

Then the Overseer changed tactics.

The moment Cain’s blade descended toward its shoulder, the metallic guardian raised its free hand, not to block the strike but to alter the path of the Flow around it. Golden currents twisted, and the trajectory of Cain’s blade suddenly shifted to the side, missing the Overseer by several inches despite the fact that Cain’s aim had been perfect.

Divergence.

The ability to push an attack away from its intended path.

Cain’s eyes flashed with interest, and instead of resisting the change, he followed the altered momentum, turning the missed strike into a spinning slash aimed at the Overseer’s waist. However, the construct had already expected that response, and another layer of Divergence rippled outward, forcing the blade to slide harmlessly past its body.

Cain laughed softly as golden light erupted from his own figure.

The Overseer’s polearm shot toward his skull, but before it could land, Cain applied Divergence with his left hand, causing the weapon’s path to bend slightly. The shift was small, almost imperceptible, yet it was enough for the polearm to pass beside his head instead of crushing it.

From that moment on, the battle became a storm of impossible trajectories.

Weapons curved away from their targets.

Killing blows were diverted by the smallest margins.

Attacks that should have pierced hearts or severed heads passed through empty air as both warriors altered the Flow around each strike.

However, Divergence alone could not decide the battle either.

The Overseer suddenly stopped evading and allowed Cain’s blade to land on its open palm. Golden currents erupted from its hand, and instead of being severed, the force behind the strike vanished into the construct’s body.

Cain’s eyes narrowed.

Redirection.

The next instant, the energy absorbed from his own attack surged through the Overseer’s body and into its polearm, multiplying with the Light of the Flow before returning toward him in a devastating sweep.

Cain raised his blade, but the impact still sent him flying backward across the sky, his arms trembling from the force.

A wide smile appeared on his face before he surged forward again.

If the Overseer would use Redirection, so could he.

The construct thrust its polearm toward Cain’s chest, and this time the Scarlet King did not dodge. He extended his left hand and caught the incoming force, allowing golden currents to flow across his palm, arm, shoulder, and chest. The energy did not explode inside him. Instead, he guided it through his body, fused it with his own Light of the Flow, and poured everything into the black blade.

The weapon trembled as Cain slashed.

The returning attack descended like a golden crescent large enough to split the arena in half.

The Overseer crossed its polearm before its body, but even then the collision sent it crashing backward, leaving deep trenches across the crystalline ground.

Cain did not stop.

The battle had become exactly what he needed.

A battle where every principle of the Flow was being tested, refined, and pushed beyond its previous limits.
