Chapter 2691: One final move (I)
"Apocalypse Blast!"
A dense, hyper-concentrated beam of violet plasma erupted toward the Scarlet King with enough destructive energy to distort the surrounding void.
The Neo-Demon Incarnation did not possess any unique or special force under its control; unlike Cain, the Depravita Incarnation, or the Samsara Incarnation, it did not wield an exotic power capable of directly influencing the laws of reality. What it possessed instead was something equally straightforward and, in some ways, even more terrifying.
A monstrous physical might combined with a devastating level of energy output. Its body alone was a weapon, and every movement carried enough power to threaten the very structure of the universe.
As if the beam were not dangerous enough, the Depravita Incarnation, honoring the terrifying gift of its race, managed to reconstruct its shattered body. Its scattered fragments converged in an instant, restoring its ancient form before it flashed toward Cain from behind, its wrinkled palm aimed directly at the back of his head.
The Scarlet King did not have time to think.
His instincts took control as his fingers tightened around Tyranus Gungnir, and he swung the massive halberd with all his strength. A sweeping arc of dark-red plasma erupted from the weapon, crashing into the violet beam head-on.
"BOOOOOOOMMMM!"
A massive explosion detonated as the two forces collided, engulfing the entire section of the void in a sea of flames. The energy was so dense that it completely obscured their vision, yet the battlefield was anything but silent. Countless explosions erupted across the blazing ocean, each detonation powerful enough to make the void of the Nine Empyrean Suns Universe tremble and crack.
The shockwaves spread across the nearby section of the Universal Wall, causing the incomparably sturdy structure to shudder beneath the tremendous pressure. Every single clash demonstrated just how monstrous the five Fourth Realm entities fighting within this battlefield had become.
The exchange grew more violent with every passing instant until, finally, an explosion of such terrifying magnitude erupted that it generated a temporary vacuum at the center of the firestorm.
Within that empty space, the five Fourth Realm entities became visible once more.
The Emperor of Conquest had seized the Neo-Demon Incarnation within its massive claw and slammed the younger being against the Universal Wall with enough force to make the surrounding space collapse. Yet before the Emperor could follow up, the Depravita Incarnation struck its claw.
The result was immediate.
Darkness spread across the Emperor’s limb as its flesh began to wither and decay. The Neo-Demon Incarnation took advantage of the opening, its muscles bulging with monstrous strength as it forcibly shattered the claw holding it. Before the Emperor could recover, the younger Incarnation drove its fist into its body and sent the Alter-Ego rolling through the void.
"Dammit!"
Cain clenched his teeth and frowned as he saw the Depravita and Neo-Demon Incarnations overwhelm the Emperor of Conquest. Unfortunately, there was little he could do to help his Alter-Ego.
He had his own opponent.
The Samsara Incarnation had already returned to the battle, and the Samsara Sword flashed toward Cain’s neck with lethal precision. Cain’s Eye of Flow glowed as his body moved almost on its own. His halberd swept upward, intercepting the sword and forcing it away from his throat, narrowly preventing the blade from severing his head.
Yet the danger did not end there.
The Samsara Shield came crashing toward him from another direction, threatening to crush his skull beneath its overwhelming defensive force. Cain immediately retreated and reentered the fray in a single move, his halberd sweeping toward the Incarnation’s waist with enough power to cleave a Fourth Realm body in half.
The Samsara Incarnation managed to raise its shield in time.
The collision sent it tumbling uncontrollably through the void.
Cain’s eyes narrowed.
It was becoming increasingly obvious that the wounds the Incarnation had already suffered, combined with the immense cost of summoning the original Neo-Demon and Depravita Incarnations, had severely diminished its battle power. It could still defend itself against Cain, but every movement was becoming more strained, and its ability to maintain its overwhelming offensive pressure was steadily deteriorating.
From the corner of his eye, Cain noticed the Emperor of Conquest regenerate its missing claw before immediately clashing with the Depravita and Neo-Demon Incarnations once more.
However, despite its immortality and monstrous regenerative ability, the Emperor was quickly forced onto the defensive.
"I need to win fast!"
The Scarlet King’s figure flashed forward like a shooting star.
In the blink of an eye, he appeared above the Samsara Incarnation and unleashed a relentless rain of halberd strikes. Each thrust descended with enough power to pierce worlds, while the dark-red flames surrounding Tyranus Gungnir burned with the destructive force of Entropy, Nihility, and Quietus.
The Samsara Incarnation forced itself to regain control at the last possible moment. Its shield moved with impossible precision, deflecting one strike after another while its sword intercepted the attacks that slipped past its defenses. Even weakened, its battle instincts remained terrifying.
"ARGHH!"
Cain roared as he accelerated his assault.
His halberd became a blur of crimson light as his attacks grew faster and more ferocious, giving the Samsara Incarnation no opportunity to breathe. Every strike carried killing intent, and every opening was immediately exploited.
Yet just before Cain could finally break through its defenses, his instincts screamed.
Danger!
His Eye of Flow suddenly blazed like a miniature sun on the verge of supernova.
A palm bathed entirely in shadow appeared from nothingness, flashing toward Cain’s spine with the clear intention of eroding the pillar that supported his body.
It was faster than light, faster than thought.
But before it could reach its target, the chains behind the Scarlet King moved on their own.
They shot forward like crimson serpents, piercing the incoming palm and binding it in place.
The shadows immediately began eroding the chains. Their radiant surfaces blackened before the links shattered one after another, yet they had accomplished their purpose.
They slowed the attack enough.
Cain’s body twisted through an impossible angle, narrowly avoiding the shadow-covered palm as it passed beside him.
His eyes sharpened.
The attacker was the Depravita Incarnation.
The ancient being had left behind a clone to deceive the Emperor of Conquest, using the chaos of the battle to slip past its defenses and launch a surprise attack against Cain.
It had been an extremely powerful strike.
But Cain had avoided it.
And he would not waste the opportunity.
Using the momentum from his evasive movement, Cain twisted his body and unleashed a sweeping halberd strike.
Tyranus Gungnir tore through the Depravita Incarnation.
Its body was cleaved in half!
The old Incarnation’s eyes widened in genuine shock.
It was not merely astonished that Cain had perceived its attack. What truly shocked it was the nature of the wound.
The halberd had cut through its spirit form.
Even Fourth Realm forces should have struggled to achieve such a feat.
Cain did not stop.
His black forehead eye glowed with terrifying darkness as he moved to finish the Depravita Incarnation before it could recover. However, at the last possible instant, the ancient entity managed to teleport away, using the immense killing intent radiating from the Neo-Demon Incarnation as a bridge to escape.
"Dammit!"
Cain shouted as his chance to eliminate one of the threats vanished.
But his voice suddenly came to a halt.
A familiar blade had emerged from his chest!
The Samsara Sword.
"What!?"
The Scarlet King’s eyes widened in shock.
The Eye of Flow should have warned him of the attack, yet he had received absolutely no indication of danger. Even his instincts, sharpened to the point where they could pierce into the movement of time itself, had failed him.
He glanced back and saw the face of the Incarnation of the Samsara Lord. Blood leaked from every orifice, while the Samsara Eye on its forehead was practically blind. Using the last vestiges of its Samsara Force, the Incarnation had managed to deceive the future and twist causality itself, allowing it to land that lethal blow.
Cain’s wing moved like an axe, slashing toward the Incarnation and forcing the entity to retreat. Unfortunately, the damage had already been done.
"Puack!"
Cain released a mouthful of blood, his entire body trembling violently.
"It missed my heart... but the Samsara Flame is still burning away my life force."
His eyes trembled as he turned toward the Incarnation.
If it were only that ancient monster, he still had a chance to win. But he would not last long enough to defeat all three Incarnations. His body was already beginning to fail, and death was steadily closing in.
Yet Cain still had one final card.
"I have no idea what kind of effect this will have on my body... but there is no other way."
The Scarlet King revealed a bloody smile.
His eyes burned with indomitable willpower as he gathered every remaining fragment of strength within his body.
Placing his hand above his heart, he roared with all his might.
