The Evolution Of A Goblin To The Peak

Chapter 1303: Great Shen Empire: The Remnants

Chapter 1303: Great Shen Empire: The Remnants

There was no life left in those places.

Corpses were scattered across the streets, and the stench of decay filled the air. The number of corpses they came across reached a staggering half a million.

The source of the plague was quite far away.

It took Alexander and Yaniesvyl almost an hour before they finally arrived at the location.

Swoosh!!

Their figures stopped one kilometer above the ground as they gazed down at the surface, which was covered in thick green smoke that stretched for several kilometers.

The sickly green smoke rolled across the plains, infecting all living beings and killing them within a few hours.

Trees had withered, and what was once a bustling town had been reduced to ruins. The bones of humans, demis, and even monsters were scattered everywhere, making the scene even more horrifying.

The entire area was filled with an oppressive aura.

“This is it.” Yaniesvyl had a grave expression.

This was indeed the source of the plague, and it was far more potent than she had imagined. The plague here was strong enough to breach the bodies of First, Second, and even Third Shackle Realm experts.

This area had basically become a dead zone for anyone below the Fourth Shackle Realm.

Alexander descended to the ground, and Yaniesvyl followed him. Although the plague couldn’t harm them, Alexander still observed their surroundings cautiously.

After all, during the recent meeting of the Dragon Council, the Seventh Head had warned him about the potential upheaval in the Immortal Land.

Moreover, the person he was trying to find had a sensitive identity.

“They’re here…” Alexander muttered as he turned his head to the side.

Yaniesvyl looked over, but she couldn’t see anything. Her eyes failed to perceive them, but her senses detected the presence of people approaching from afar.

“One five hundred meters in front of us, two approaching quickly from behind, three people on our left, and another three people on our right,” Alexander said in a low voice that only Yaniesvyl could hear.

In the next moment, a sharp gust of wind burst forth from the front.

Yaniesvyl swiftly took a step forward and drew the sword hanging from her waist. The sword glowed with a bluish light as she slashed at the approaching arrow.

Whoosh!

As soon as she knocked the arrow away, Yaniesvyl pointed her sword forward and thrust it with great force.

The sword released a bright light.

A swift beam of energy shot forward.

Bang!!

Several hundred meters ahead, a figure appeared, dodging the sword beam. However, he was too slow, and his right arm was sliced apart.

Thud!

The figure fell to the ground, clutching his severed arm. His face contorted in pain, but the aura around him continued to rise.

“You…” He glared at Yaniesvyl, his eyes filled with murderous intent.

Yaniesvyl was unbothered by the murderous intent directed at her. She simply observed the unknown man closely and recognized that his energy was similar to that of the plague.

“So you’re the source of this plague… No wonder even an SS-rank could be affected by your tricks. So you’re at the Fifth Shackle Realm. However, this ends now.”

She looked at the unknown man with cold, piercing eyes.

Alexander also took his time observing the unknown man.

“This robe… This symbol… Remnants of the Gluttony Army?”

His eyebrows rose in surprise.

He was only slightly surprised, as this was somewhat within his expectations. He just hadn’t imagined that the remnants of the Gluttony Army would still dare to launch such a massive massacre.

The unknown man gritted his teeth, anger reflected in his eyes. He stood up, but his expression suddenly froze.

In the next second, a line appeared from the top of his head down to the lower part of his body.

Then, his body split apart.

He died just like that.

Alexander glanced at Yaniesvyl beside him and shrugged his shoulders.

Yaniesvyl waved her sword and coldly snorted.

“These people are still making a move. They think they’re still the powerful Gluttony Army from the past.”

She had just sliced that unknown man apart.

With her current strength, it had been an easy feat.

A Fifth Shackle Realm expert was nothing in front of her.

Yaniesvyl had been traveling with Alexander ever since the events in the Hall Plains. Her strength had risen sharply after being exposed to high-grade combat arts and spells. Every time Alexander excavated an unknown ruin, she would receive her share of the treasures as well.

Through these resources and the experience she gained from traveling with him, her power had risen by leaps and bounds.

She was no longer the fragile princess she had been back then.

Yaniesvyl raised her sword, and its blade shone brightly.

[Sword Dance: Petals Rain]!!

A sword light shot into the air, exploding in the sky before descending upon the entire area.

Swoosh!!

Thousands of sword lights rained down upon the field.

She knew that the one she had killed just now wasn’t alone. The remnants of the Gluttony Army had surrounded them, but they didn’t know that Yaniesvyl’s strength was far beyond theirs.

As soon as the remnants saw one of their own being killed so easily, they quickly turned around and tried to escape, but it was already too late.

The countless sword lights pierced through their bodies.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

They even tried to block the sword lights, but everything was shattered.

They were too weak.

The difference in strength was simply too great.

One by one, their bodies fell to the ground, and blood gushed from their wounds.

They were all dead.

Yaniesvyl merely glanced at them before sheathing her sword.

“Not bad.” Alexander nodded, praising her high-level swordsmanship.

“If I couldn’t defeat them, then everything I’ve trained for would be meaningless. I’ve benefited greatly just by following you, so it’s only natural that they would die under my blade,” Yaniesvyl replied with a slight smile.

Alexander nodded. He looked at the bodies scattered around them, wondering what the remnants of the Gluttony Army were planning.

Suddenly, he turned his head to the left and narrowed his eyes.

“It seems that their superiors have realized that they’re dead,” Alexander muttered.

Yaniesvyl looked left and right but found nothing. She asked, “Where?”

“It’s outside your perception, but there’s no mistake about it. The energy fluctuation only rose for a split second, but I still sensed it,” Alexander explained.

“What are we going to do?”

“Find them. After all, you killed all of these people, so we couldn’t ask them any questions.”

“Sorry about that. I forgot.”

“It’s fine.” Alexander shook his head.

The remnants of the Gluttony Army had dared to spread a lethal plague here, killing people in numerous villages and towns.

Though there weren’t any God-rank entities here, the Great Shen Empire still housed powerful experts. Those experts couldn’t be underestimated, so the remnants of the Gluttony Army must have been planning something big.

Moreover, the fact that no one had come looking for them proved that the Great Shen Empire must be occupied with other affairs.

‘This isn’t my problem, but…’ Alexander pondered deeply, weighing the pros and cons.

After a while, he sighed and said, “Let’s find the remaining remnants.”

Yaniesvyl nodded at his words.

Alexander and Yaniesvyl flew into the sky.

Swoosh!!

The plague would soon lose its effect now that its conjurer had perished. It was just that they couldn’t bring back the lives of those who had already died from it.

The two came across several towns and villages.

Their state was the same as the previous towns.

Everyone was dead.

Children, adults, men, and women, they were killed without discrimination. All of them had been slaughtered equally.

The two traveled for several kilometers until they arrived at a huge mountain that reached a height of ten kilometers.

The colossal mountain stood tall, piercing through the clouds, its peak covered in snow. Its slopes stretched across the land, with waterfalls cascading down from great heights.

“Is this the place?” Yaniesvyl asked.

Alexander nodded. “They’ve already sensed us.”

This mountain was called Mount Tinyang and was once the nest of two Fifth-Stage monsters, but now, it seemed that was no longer the case.

The remnants of the Gluttony Army had made this place their base.

Rumble!

The mountain trembled, and hundreds of runes lit up from within.

In the next moment, an opening appeared in the middle of the mountain, between the jagged cliffs. Even the clouds parted, allowing the two of them to see it clearly.

“They’re inviting us in,” Yaniesvyl said, her brows knitting together.

“Then we shouldn’t decline their invitation,” Alexander said.

The two descended, heading toward the opening.

Alexander scanned the area and detected hundreds of active runes with various functions.

He also sensed that there were no monsters or humans on the surface of the mountain.

Soon, they passed through the opening and arrived inside the mountain.

The interior of the mountain was like a city. It was filled with structures and facilities, seemingly intended for something unspeakable. Everything had been built within the ten-kilometer-tall mountain.

For such a huge base, Alexander could only sense five people.
