Chapter 302: Attack the Titans (3)
Chapter 302: Attack the Titans (3)
After the annihilation of the beast horde, Yue convened the Elune House's senior executives within a sealed chamber and personally reviewed the damage reports from Eshon.
The findings were grim.
Half of the territory had been reduced to ruin. Thousands had been displaced, forced into refugee camps with little more than what they could carry. Casualty numbers were still being compiled, but even preliminary estimates painted a catastrophic picture. It was the greatest disaster the Elune House had suffered since its founding.
And yet, they had endured.
Despite the devastation, their core strength remained intact. Their forces were battered, their lands scarred… but they still possessed the manpower and resolve to fight another day.
Yue sat in silence, her expression unreadable as the weight of command settled fully upon her shoulders. After a long moment of contemplation, she finally turned to her husband, her most trusted confidant, and spoke:
"Amon, what do you think?"
"Sounds like the Titans aren't taking us seriously," Amon replied impassively. "The Beast Titan is likely using this time to test its strength. Summoning as many beasts and manipulating them to do its bidding."
"Yeah, from what I recall in the past, Knodalon has always been the wild one."
Perhaps it was due to his origin and nature, but the Beast Titan regarded all living creatures as nothing more than byproducts of his own existence.
Even in Yue's first timeline, Knodalon had always stood apart from the other Titans.
The rest were reclusive, indifferent beings who viewed humanity as insignificant insects sharing their world. Knodalon, however, harboured an active and seething contempt for humans. He did not merely ignore them; he sought them out, deliberately eradicating every settlement that crossed his path.
In the end, he was hunted down.
But the victory came at a staggering cost. Knodalon's power allowed him to draw every living beast in the surrounding lands to his side, transforming himself into a moving catastrophe—a living beast scourge.
Defeating him was difficult enough on its own; doing so while cutting through an endless horde and protecting countless innocents from annihilation made the task exponentially worse.
In many ways, it was fortunate that Knodalon was the first Titan they chose to confront.
He was, without question, the most dangerous of them all.
"What is your plan?"
"Oh? Are you leaving it to me?"
"Of course, you're the one who is going to take the Beast Titan's divinity."
From the very beginning, Yue had been the only one capable of inheriting the Beast Titan's divinity. Her mastery over spirits—entities that were themselves the collective essences of beasts and nature—made her the perfect vessel for such power.
In truth, Yue did not need to seize a Titan's divinity at all. The Mysterious Grimoire bound to her soul was none other than the will of the planet itself.
If she so desired, ascension was inevitable; given time, she would awaken a divinity of her own.
But time was a luxury she did not possess.
Between the Titans, the Demon forces, and, most dangerously, the renegade Goddess, Yue required an advantage that could tip the scales. She needed an ace, something immediate and decisive.
And the Beast Titan's divinity was exactly that.
"If that's the case, former head. Please take over command of the Elune House. Amon and I will head over to the Beast Titan and slay it once and for all. Focus on providing shelter for the displaced and protecting the people from rogue beasts."
"Do you know where the Beast Titan is?"
"Yeah, I can sense its mana from a mile away," Yue scoffed, clearly miffed that Knodalon was looking down on them without even bothering to hide its mana.
"Amon and I will lead the members of Eldorin over and take the head of the Titan. You don't have to worry about anything. I'm entrusting the safety of the people of Eshon in your hands, former head."
"... I miss the days when you would call me grandpa," Yugor sighed, but didn't feel sad in the slightest.
No, seeing his granddaughter's growth gave him mixed feelings. Joy that the successor he'd personally chosen had grown to be such a powerhouse, and disappointment that the girl had grown up too fast, too soon.
From the age of ten onward, Yue had lived beneath relentless expectations. She was burdened with the mandate to become the greatest spiritualist of her generation, a title she had never been given the luxury to refuse.
Beyond that, she had been promised to the Solaris House to cement the alliance between their factions, a bond that explained why Amon and the Eldorin Knights now stood in Eshon, fighting to prevent its destined ruin.
Yue had never truly been allowed to be a child or a teenager.
That truth weighed heavily on Yugor's heart.
As her grandfather, he regretted it. He could not help but wonder what had been taken from her in those formative years, sacrificed in the name of duty and survival.
And yet, when he looked at her now—strong, composed, and genuinely happy—he knew those early trials had shaped the woman she had become.
Even so, a grandfather's regret did not fade so easily. No matter how well her journey had turned out, the years she had lost would never return.
"Ah, I know. Why don't you guys get married and have my great-grandchild? I don't have many years left in me…"
"T-That's… an excellent idea, grandpa! But you don't have to worry about that! Amon and I have been trying every night-..."
"Grandpa Yugor, why don't we continue this conversation at a more appropriate time?"
Amon once again had to interject to curb Yue's enthusiasm as she often went off the rails when it came to this topic. He covered the struggling, animated girl's mouth before turning to the rest of the group.
Aside from Amon and Yue, there were Leon and Ellahan, the most obvious pair to stand at Amon's side.
The Hero and the Saintess, or as the public more irreverently called them, the budget fantasy couple. The nickname was admittedly strange, but when Amon and Yue's exploits had already ascended into legend, the rest of the world had little choice but to brand even its greatest champions as lesser reflections of the original.
Then there was Aluria, the current Ocean Divine, her presence alone carrying the weight of the seas. Following her stood the Sword Saint and Manon, the Sky Spear.
Each of them alone possessed power rivalling that of an Apostle.
Together, they formed a force capable of holding back even one, or perhaps two Titans. Yet raw strength was not the sole reason Amon had assembled them for this expedition.
There was something more at stake.
"All of you are considered to be vessels to inherit the Titans' divinity. Today, you will witness how we hunt a Titan, rip its divine heart and implant it into Yue."
That was the truth of the expedition.
With the sole exception of Aluria, everyone gathered here was a potential candidate to inherit a Titan's divinity.
The Sword Saint was the most obvious choice. He had long yearned for immortality, and the only reason he had refused the Demon Cult's offers was Yue's promise—a path to eternal life that did not require him to become the Demon King's chained hound.
Manon was next. He was not human, but a stone puppet, forged with an essence strikingly close to that of a Goddess. For him, integrating divine power would be natural, almost effortless.
As for Amon and Yue, they already stood at the very summit of mortal existence. They had no need to seize another's divinity to ascend, but they intended to do so regardless. Not out of necessity, but to weaken the Titans and strengthen themselves for the ultimate battle against the Goddess and the Demon King.
Then there was Ellahan. Her case was the most uncertain—and the most dangerous.
Though she was the Saintess, the living mortal closest to the Goddess, and had been steeped in Holy Power longer than anyone alive, she remained mortal nonetheless. Whether her body and soul could withstand the transference of divinity was impossible to predict. It was a gamble. One that the group had knowingly chosen to take.
"You will witness how Yue ascends and decide on your own… if that's the right path for you to take."
Although Amon and Yue were giving the Titans' divinity to them, it was up to the candidates to decide if it was truly the path they were going to take.
If they absorbed the divinities, they would effectively become part of the new Pantheon… immortals who will become the next generation of Gods. But that meant… giving up their humanity entirely.
It was a decision they couldn't make lightly, and fortunately, a decision they didn't have to make now.
With that, Amon gazed at the horizon, where a sinister energy was stirring. His lips rose slightly, before gesturing to Yue: "No need for needless chatter, let's go hunt some wolves."
