Chapter 1928 And Come Bearing Gifts
Chapter 1928 And Come Bearing Gifts
One after another, the Elders came forward and gave them odd trinkets, unusual resources, and other items they thought that Karl and Dana would like.
They had forsaken the usual gifts of accessories and weapons, which would just be laughable as gifts to the Clan's greatest allied craftsmen. So, that left them to get creative when they were trying to find ways to impress the new Elders.
But by far, the best received gifts were the plethora of magical alcohols from the Brewmaster, and the buffet from the kitchen Elder.
There was nothing else that could really compare to those two when it came to party favours.
The Captains of the Elven merchant vessels offered Karl something slightly different.
They had managed to find a nascent wind stone on one of the southern islands, a rare Elemental Stone the size of Dana's fist. It was weak, barely formed, but to the Blue Elves this was a true treasure.
"The trick to wind stones is that they grow when you imbue energy into them. If you put them in a good nest, with strong wind energy, or a dedicated formation, you can grow them to the point that an entire fleet can surf the waves on their winds.
You will never suffer a headwind again if you have a well-formed wind stone in your possession, only favourable tailwinds," the Captain explained.
Karl accepted the gift carefully. "This is a wonderful gift, and incredibly valuable."
The Elves shrugged. "Gifts are meant to be given."
"I will find a home for it soon, and the Darklight Host will treasure it."
Leo was particularly interested in it, as he could use it in turtle form to casually push himself places without any personal exertion. He could fly fast enough if he wanted to, or float along with the current in the ocean, but the wind stone would be great for days he wanted to be a proper False Island Giant Turtle.
Of course, that meant that he would have to find a way to channel power into a wind stone, and he wasn't a wind element beast.
He would have to rely on Hawk or Remi, as they could both do some things with wind.
Why did he not have a wind sister? He could just float along on the breeze, letting nature do all the work for him.
Opal laughed at Leo's dilemma. He could use gravity magic perfectly well, and it would do the job. But that required effort on his part if he wanted to do more than float and let the breeze push him.
Her brothers were a surprisingly relaxed bunch, and she wondered how the new sister would turn out.
She seemed like the lively sort, but you could never tell how they would be once they got used to everyone. She might just be energetic because she was nervous and wanted everyone to like her.
She was definitely the sort that treasured friendship.
At that moment, Skadi was in humanoid form, surrounded by bunnies who were dedicated to letting her try every single variety of snacks that they thought a fellow herbivore might like.
She was a huge hit with the staff, and they had pulled her away from the crowd the moment that nobody was looking.
Dana laughed as she realized that the whole reason they had gathered was already forgotten, and everyone had simply broken into groups to drink and try the steady stream of new food that was coming out of the kitchen.
Lotus, Hawk and the bunnies on kitchen duty were trying out various recipes, and given their differing favourites, there were three very different sets of dishes coming out to the party.
Meat, sweets and an assortment of savoury pastries in an endless procession.
And the food just kept getting better.
[ Karl, we need you to teach more people the cooking skill. We're running short on helpers! ] Hawk demanded.
[ Ancient Wisdom is set as the Guild Skill, just share it with them, and every single one of the bunnies can have Divine Cooking. I will teach everyone properly later. ]
[ We're using it to share Ghost Fire so that we can all barbecue. ]
So that was what they issue was.
They needed more fire for Hawk's plans.
"Excuse me for a moment, the Kitchen needs me to give them something."
Karl stepped downstairs, and found pandemonium in the kitchen. There weren't enough Elders present to need such a massive staff, so they had to be cooking for the entire Darklight Host's Lycans and the Tiny World's baby dragons.
No lesser force could consume that much meat.
"How many people need the skill? Everyone, I'm assuming? It's a direct upgrade to Mystic Cooking, so you'll need the Mystic Cooking skill to use it." Karl announced as he entered.
"Yep, give it to everyone! Spread the love, and get Hawk's meat mountain roasted so that I have room to roll my pastries," Lotus called back.
Hawk laughed, a long caw in crow form. Then, he finally gave in and transformed.
Being a bird in the Lotus Priestess' kitchen was inconvenient. He needed more fingers.
Hawk transformed, his form expanding and shimmering with flames as he turned into a tall, pale skinned man with large feathered wings on his back that seemed to burn with blue and black flames under the surface.
His hair stuck up at odd angles, and he gave his reflection in the window an annoyed look, then tried and failed to smooth it with his wing.

"This is fine. I have hands and legs. Thor will teach me to fix the hair later," he decided.
"Oh, it must be important. Hawk is in humanoid form," Lotus joked.
"Of course it's important. It's MEAT. What could be more important than meat and fire? Now, how do I work all these extra fingers? They all point the wrong directions."
Karl patted him on the shoulder. "Let the bunnies show you. Just follow their examples, and you'll be used to it in no time."
That seemed highly unlikely. He was definitely going to give up on human hands and go back to being a bird as soon as he had all the meat cooked.
Hawk did not have that much patience.
