Chapter 2075 News of War

A man behind the group laughed derisively. "You're focusing on the wrong things. No matter how many weapons the Darklight Host manages to make, it's not going to change the fact that the southern coast is on its way to a regional war.

Those alliances are only a small part of a much larger network of allied Clans, and every time the fight spreads, it pulls in even more Clans.

Give it another year at the very most, and the entire southeast will be at war, and the conflict will be pushing this way, dragging everyone in. That's why I'm here now, just getting out of the way of the fighting while they figure their mess out."

The others, who had just shifted seats to join the conversation, nodded in agreement.

"I give it three months, and they'll have a million Immortals in on the battle. But the part that I'm mostly worried about is the fight reaching the fjord. Legend Eryman controls a free port there, where all the Clans have been prohibited.

He doesn't allow anyone to wear Clan colours, fly their Clan tag as a title, or recruit anywhere in the city.

But it's not because he's alone. He's got a huge Clan backing in the city, and they're almost all Paladins of the Holy Light Church. If the Clan War pulls the Church into it, every follower of the human Gods on the world will dog pile into the region."

Karl sighed. "Yeah, I can see how that would happen. If someone showed up here to pull us into a full-scale war it would likely take about four hours before the War Banner was flying and the Darklight Host was dumping Legends onto the battlefield, followed by the adherents of the Black Dragon.

They get all worked up every time we go to war."

One of the Immortals chuckled and shook his head. "I doubt that most of these people appreciate just how true that is. I'm from Gralpedrin, and I was home when the Templars were purged."

Most of the people at the arena had at least heard of the incident, even if they were from Clans that weren't in the immediate area.

Word spread fast.

"Isn't it a bit extreme to fly the War Banner for a Clan War?" one of the others asked.

Karl shrugged. "They always start out innocent enough, but then someone does something unforgivable, and the banner comes out. It's the same pattern every time. Hopefully, they understand boundaries, and they can stay out of Legend Eryman's port as well as ours with their war.

Unfortunately, I'm sure that there is at least one more Clan that has branches on other worlds in the region, and they're going to call for reinforcements if they're attacked.

So the estimates may be conservative."

The Black Dragon Priestess nodded. "You're not the only interplanetary Guild for sure. But you don't need to see if the big Guilds will get involved. The battles have already spread west of Frontia, and everything from there to the fjord, except for Eryman's territory, is pat of the Gamidian Theocracy, under the Holy Light Church's Pope.

You just need to wait for one of their Bishops to call a holy war to stop the destruction of church aligned Clans."

The Immortals seemed to realize that the real problem wasn't the alliances between Clans, but the ones between ideology, that would drag unrelated Clans into the fight from a much larger distance.

And that their activation would drag up old enemies of their Gods, and the Clans that followed them.

"Why can't people just behave?" Karl muttered.

The black dragon Priestess giggled, and a few of the other Immortals hid their smiled. If there was someone who should be able to say that with a straight face, it was not Karl. Not only was his Guild not known for behaving, he was actively part of the problem, as his trade relations with the Blue Elves were fuelling the supply of weapons to the situation.

The man on Karl's left replied in a weary tone. "Well, there is still some hope that the church won't start a full on holy war. None of the Clans currently involved are enemies of theirs, and quite a few are followers. The Holy Light Church is kind of a catch-all for Clerics who follow the human gods, instead of the Dragon Gods, so they don't take hasty action."

The Black Dragon Priestess nodded in agreement. "The Human Gods don't usually intervene in matters between humans, and there aren't all that many dragonkin on this world. So, there's a good chance that they'll view it as an internal strife matter.

If that's the case, it's only going to be a longer war because there won't be as many reinforcements coming from around the world.

Just the ones that are called by Clans."

"And here I thought that the black dragon's adherent was going to give us good news for once. Do you have any idea how many resources and dungeons have gone off limits due to the battles recently? It's completely messing up my search for resources.

That's what I came to this city for. I heard that they have a pretty good set of connections," the man in front of her added.

Karl smiled happily. "Indeed we do. What was it that you were looking for?"

"A way to undo soul damage."

"Oh, in that case we've got more than one option available. I have an amulet that gathers a bit of soul power from things you kill, or we've got healers on hand who have specialized spells for those who have taken soul damage.

They can even cure those whose Immortal Spirits were shattered, leaving them stuck at a low Immortal growth state and unable to recover on their own."

The Immortal looked shocked, while the black dragon laughed quietly.

The method of "Saving" those with shattered Immortal Spirits was to kill them and resurrect them in a child's body. Unless Karl had developed a method of putting them directly into the reformed body without killing them first.
