Chapter 2098 Help The Oracles First
Chapter 2098 Help The Oracles First
Once they were through the door that led to the private areas of the church, the Priestess removed her cloak, and Eryman sighed dramatically.
"I wonder what it would take to convince my congregation that this was acceptable?"
The Priestess winked at him. "The Congregation is the easy part. Trying to convince any of the clergy except brother Thunder Thighs to wear the outfit is the hard part. No offence, but your patron is a bit of a prude.
The World Dragon is much more light hearted about such things, and values the entertainment factor more highly than the modesty factor."
Eryman nodded. "You're likely right. The congregation isn't going to be the drawback here. The popularity of certain establishments in the dock area should have told me that."
The bunnies giggled at the insinuation. The Darklight Host somehow didn't have any such "Establishments" in the city, though there was no rule against it. Instead, they had a rather upscale sort of spa, and if you asked Andrea, she would gladly find you a friend among the visiting Succubi.
They all came to speak to her first when they arrived, it was just good manners to ensure that they were not poaching on someone else's turf. But the guild's resident spy master was not at all concerned about their activities, and usually set them up with a room at the Lycan's Den hotel.
A place where she could keep an eye on them, and keep the Demons safe in case of 'accidents'.
The Priestess stopped at a luxurious sitting room, and Eryman smiled.
"I knew that this place felt familiar. It's all based on Karl's magic, like the Guild Hall, but buffed by the other Guild members so that it's Supreme Ranked. We're in a separate space, and have been for some time now, but the transition is so seamless that I wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't known what to look for."
The Priestess smiled. "Indeed. The whole Church is a separate space. The Holy Blessing on the temple grounds helps mask the subtle change as you step into the building.
Welcome to Blackwoods Temple of the World Dragon Church, Legend Eryman.
I assume that you didn't come for a purely social visit, given how that would look to the many busybodies who follow you around everywhere, reporting back to their equally nosy masters within your church."
Eryman inclined his head in a slight bow. "My apologies if we have inconvenienced you."
"On the contrary, they have proven to be most pious. In fact, their donations have been larger, and their prayers longer than anyone other than the Moron."
"The Moron?"
The Priestess smiled. "A member of the New Home Merchant Clan, with an unfortunate name and zero luck with the ladies. He is here twice daily for prayers, often praying that the World Dragon might take pity on him and grant him a beautiful Priestess or Succubus as a wife."
"Are such things not private information?"
"Only if we had a confessional booth. His prayers are quite public, in front of the World Dragon Altar. I pray that one day he might find what it is that he has been looking for.
Now, did you require the services of one of our Oracles? They are quite powerful, but their visions are of the darkest sort. Perhaps the thing that is needed in this time of growing violence and imminent civil unrest, but we do not agree to allow them to suffer such visions easily."
The Legend shook his head. "No, I have a few in my city who are in the same position as the ones that you have taken in, and I was hoping they might do well in your care.
The Church can keep them comfortable, but they mostly keep them sedated."
He trailed off, and the cleric nodded. "I understand. What we do is somewhat unique among other treatment centres. If there were other churches who could do what we do, then our treatment wouldn't mean much.
We can certainly accept a few more troubled souls, as long as they're not too powerful. We currently lack the ability to immediately stop the visions of some Supreme Ranked Oracles."
Eryman clapped his hands once in victory, and then took out a message tablet.
"The ones in charge of the disabled Oracle do not share a compatible system, so I have to message them manually. If you are willing, I can have them moved this week."
The Priestess nodded. "We have Karl here, if you show him where to go, he can just open a portal directly to them. It's mana intensive, but he's an Avatar of the World Dragon, such restrictions mean little to his ability."
Eryman frowned at Karl. "You can open a portal to that distant of a location? Not just with a dedicated array at both sides?"
Karl shrugged. "Advantage of being an Avatar of the World Dragon. The distance restrictions don't hit me nearly as hard as they do others. So, if you can show me the destination, I will be able to open a portal there.
If you want to get the Oracles brought here stealthily, without causing a major stir among the Clergy, then it would be best if we did it right now, before the spies manage to inform anyone of the plan.
That would likely be best for the Oracles as well, if you have them sedated.
They'll wake up here, and then we can acclimatize them to being awake and free from the worst of their visions. It's the kindest way, and we often do it that way for the others who first come to our care.
They too often need to be sedated to stop the suffering.
Eryman nodded, and an image appeared in front of him, showing the outside of a temple, along with an aerial view of the city, so that Karl could more accurately envision the destination. Many temples looked the same, but no two cities looked the same from above.
"Got it. Opening the portal now."
