Chapter 1636: Seven Day Tournament(3)
"Dad, we shouldn’t do this."
Philip frowned when he heard Lorne’ plan for the next action.
Twenty years had passed since Lorne had his first child, and now Philip was twenty years old. Along with Philip, Lorne had a couple more children, making the Svant family grow.
Now that Philip was twenty years old, Lorne had asked him to get married. Philip wasn’t very talented in cultivation, as he was only Level 3, but since he was the eldest and there were very few Svants, he was overprotected, making him spoiled.
Lorne’ expression turned grave, and he immediately turned to reprimand his son. But after a moment, he only sighed, and without saying anything, he just pushed a screen toward him.
The next moment, a screen containing some details appeared before Philip.
{Name: Grey Pequin
Type: Beast
Race: Mutant
Quality: Legendary
Element: Water & Wind
Cultivation: Level 13
Characteristics: Sovereign of Storms
Details: Whenever a natural storm exists within a 100 km radius, it can absorb its power, doubling its attack speed and tripling elemental potency. During this state:
It disrupts enemy spellcasting and destabilizes flying opponents.Any attack it performs automatically carries storm elemental infusion. If killed within its storm zone, the Grey Pequin is reborn once from condensed lightning and seawater.
Ability:
1.) Maelstrom Burst – It summons a spiraling vortex of wind and water, pulling enemies in and crushing them with immense pressure.
2.) Skyward Retreat – It instantly rides a jet stream high into the sky, escaping attacks and repositioning strategically.
3.) Aqua Conduit – It channels water essence to cleanse allies of poisons, burns, and negative debuffs.
...
14.) Tide Guard – It condenses water into a dense shield of liquid pressure, harder than steel, that absorbs immense damage before collapsing.
15.) Aerial Executioner – It executes enemies mid-air by binding them in cyclone currents, then slashing them apart with electrified wind blades.
Card Description: The Grey Pequin embodies the destruction of water and wind. Its genius control over these elements makes it a formidable ally and a terror to its enemies. In battle, it overwhelms enemies with devastating attacks.}
On the screen was the image of Grey Pequin. It was a massive seabird with features of a penguin and a falcon. Its ashen-grey feathers glowed with a rainbowy polish when hit by lightning. Its wings were unusually long and tipped with sword-like feathers that cut through the air like scythes.
Its eyes were piercing silver with a faint glow, capable of seeing through storms. It had a sharpened, obsidian-like beak, made only for tearing both flesh and any kind of metal armor. Its most striking feature was the crest of jagged, icy-blue feathers arcing from its head like a royal crown, covered with electricity.
The Grey Pequin was a powerful beast known for its intelligence and pride, so the haughtiness in its eyes was clearly visible.
Philip couldn’t help but feel chills creeping down his spine when he was met with the beast’s eyes on the screen, but soon that disappeared, and his entire body became filled with excitement.
Even his father, whom he felt was mighty, was only a Level 10 being, but the Grey Pequin was a Level 13 beast, a power that could destroy him with just a breath.
Then he became confused. He was spoiled but not stupid. Why would someone give him a beast with that much power?
Just with the Grey Pequin, the Svant family could leap in strength and build a foundation that could last for centuries at the very least.
"Dad, why would they give us such a powerful beast?"
Philip didn’t hide his confusion and asked Lorne.
"You don’t need to know that. You only need to know that the Svant family needs you to marry that girl."
Philip wanted to respond but was forced to shut up when met with an angry glare from both his parents. He could only shrink back and accept the decision.
He was spoiled, but he still knew his father was a stubborn man, and also that Lorne hadn’t hidden anything about the Svant family from his three sons and two daughters.
They knew his goal was not only to revive the Svant Family but also to make it a third-level family, the strongest level of family in the world.
A first-level family only needed to have a Level 10 member and some lower levels, but for a family to touch the second level, they needed to have at least one Level 50 member and hundreds of people below that level.
A Level 10 member could live for 400 years, so Lorne still had more than a third of his life left. He could accommodate his children in any matter but not when it came to family expansion.
If it were possible, he would marry a couple more women and have children, but as the leader of the family, he was very busy and needed to work very hard.
So the onus of having children needed to be fulfilled by his five children.
As for why Philip was given a Level 13 Grey Pequin as a dowry, it had nothing personally to do with him, but it was due to Lorne.
Lorne had decided to use the Svant as a bargain to gain some resources for the future. With strength, freedom would automatically come.
He understood the difficulty of gaining freedom after becoming a subordinate family, but he had to do that to even exist.
This was a cruel world with controlled resources. The earlier territory controlled by Svants was now a hub of maniac beasts. If he wanted other territories, he needed to go to war with other families, but with his strength it was clearly not possible in the short term.
A Level 10 was very strong, but still the gap between Level 9 and Level 10 hadn’t reached a point where quantity couldn’t suppress the latter.
The Grey Pequin would help him and the Svants a lot in the short term, so once Philip accepted the decision, he patted his son on his shoulder with a gratified smile.
