Chapter 1248: Seen Too Much.
Chapter 1248: Seen Too Much.
For some reason, the guardian had appeared. That armored figure wearing black metallic plate armor and wielding a black spear had come to the scene of the fight.
She was still hidden, but the guardian looked right at her and said, "You will wait here for a while."
"You have seen too much. I need to determine if what you saw was too important to keep you around."
The guardian’s voice was calm and indifferent, as if they were not talking about deciding whether she would continue to live or not. After speaking, they turned to stare at the black sphere.
Their voice and the words they said chilled her to her non-existent bones. Worse, they let Tepid Scholar go. Apparently, because he was blind like most Dao Lords, he couldn’t have sensed much and was free to go.
When she saw Tepid Scholar run away as he had just been pardoned, she thought inwardly with a heavy heart, ’I am screwed this time around, aren’t I?’
"Don’t be so quick to judge," the guardian said to her without turning around. "I haven’t decided yet. So you may yet live for a while longer."
’I shouldn’t have messed with Ragnarok,’ she thought with immense regret.
"Come now. If you didn’t force him, how would I have known that he was special?" the guardian said, chuckling in amusement at her thoughts.
Hearing this, she fell to her knees and said, "Please, stop telling me more about him. I don’t want to know."
Since her life and death depended on whether she knew too much, she dearly didn’t want to know more about him.
"What a buzzkill," the guardian said, smirking in their helmet. "Whatever. We’ll be done soon."
Heavenly Eye decided not to look at whatever was going on in the black sphere anymore. She turned her head away, deactivated her Supreme Metacs, and even withdrew her Divine Spirit.
She reduced her capabilities layer by layer just so that she wouldn’t see anything damning. This was difficult because it meant actively distancing herself from new information, even though she knew it was there.
It was like asking an addict to give up a drug just because it could be dangerous to their health. She was the addict, and her addiction was to new information, gossip, and secrets. Her relationship with her drug of choice was so strong that calling it an addiction would be an understatement.
Frankly, even if the information was potentially deadly, it wasn’t enough to deter her. The guardian’s presence was what actually convinced her not to look.
If the danger was manageable and she could have wormed her way out, she would have looked. But the source of the danger to her life was the guardian, so she didn’t dare take the risk to look.
Fortunately, when she turned her head, she saw something interesting by the side to look at. She saw two barbarians in the crowd of onlookers who reminded her of someone she knew.
The two barbarians had noses that were pressed far into their faces. Their faces were scrunched up, and their hair was scraggly.
They both looked like Martial Will. The only difference was that one was black from head to toe and looked like an obsidian statue, while the other was white, like an alabaster statue.
None of them had bronze skin like Martial Will, but other than that, they looked exactly like Martial Will. She was sure about this.
When she combined this information with the fact that black Gemini younglings become adults when they gain their white pair, she realized why these white and black versions of Martial Will had appeared.
Her eyes were full of confusion as she thought, ’Didn’t Martial Will just die a few seconds ago? How did his son suddenly become an Adult in that time? Is their growth that fast?’
’I thought the youngling had to kill their parent to grow. Can anyone kill the parent and help the youngling mature?’
’If anyone can kill the parents to help the younglings grow, then the Geminis don’t have any use for me other than to serve as a challenge to my daughter. They can kill me anytime they want,’ she thought with a heavy heart.
The sight truly had a big impact on her, especially since it supported the possibility that the guardian had no particularly inviolable reason to keep her alive. More and more questions appeared in her mind, galloping through it and giving her a headache.
Since it didn’t matter who killed her and her death was the only important thing, the guardian could kill her at any time. Thinking about this, she felt another bout of immense regret.
’I really shouldn’t have pushed Ragnarok too far,’ she thought, gritting her teeth in anger.
’No wonder he was always so cocky. He had a reason to look down on everyone. Weakened and surrounded, he still managed to kill Martial Will and six other Dao Lords.’
’If he was this strong, he should have said so right from the start. How was I supposed to know he wasn’t to be trifled with?’
’This is his fault too,’ she thought, gnashing her teeth hatefully.
While she was wishing to kill Loki for leading her astray, Loki was finishing his fight with the Dao Lords. Nearly every Dao Lord was dead now. Only Green Fire remained alive, resisting stubbornly.
But even Green Fire was reaching her limit and had given up hope. She kicked him one last time before letting herself fall and sitting on the ground.
"We lost," she said dejectedly.
As Loki’s body knitted together and recombined into something resembling a person, he said, "At least you won the competition for the last one standing. Trust me, that’s not easy."
But she didn’t appreciate the compliment. She snorted and said, "How I hate you so much! How I wish I could kill you!"
"I’m still here. Feel free to make another attempt on my life," he said nonchalantly.
