Chapter 1280: Divine Transformation Cultivators.
Heavenly Eye was saying with schadenfreude, “This mechanism of power through cultivation techniques incentivized Divine Transformation cultivators to establish divine sects and expand those sects to recruit more people. But it also meant that killing a bunch of people could weaken a Divine Transformation cultivator.”
“In most cases, a Divine Palace cultivator would first establish their sect with people of their race and teach them their cultivation technique. So if you wanted to prevent that Divine Palace cultivator from advancing, or you wanted to weaken a rival Divine Transformation cultivator, you can just kill everyone in their race.”
“Everyone was doing it back then. But the elementals were stronger individually and had the highest proportion of Divine Palace and Divine Transformation cultivators. So they could form alliances with each other and easily wipe out the races of normal ancient cultivators.”
“I see,” Loki said, nodding in understanding. “That makes sense. I would have done the same thing in their position.”
“Who wouldn’t?” she asked with a snort. “Not that there was much of a choice.”
“In those days, Domain Power was limited. It was the world’s total size. So if you wanted more Domain Power, you either expand the size of the world by sacrificing a whole world to it, or you sacrifice the lives of many mortals to make sure that the ones with your cultivation technique will become the highest proportion of the population.”
“Since the first option required a lot of work, invading another world and risking your life only to share the fruit of your hard work with everyone in the world, most Divine Transformation cultivators resorted to killing off each other’s disciples and destroying each other’s sects.”
“It was further encouraged by the fact that you could eliminate a Divine Transformation cultivator completely by killing their disciples. Once the number of cultivators using their cultivation technique fell below a certain threshold, their authority would lose support and disappear. Then the Divine Transformation cultivator would fall.”
“Wow. What a sham of a cultivation system,” Loki said in disbelief. “I can’t believe that great and powerful cultivators can be brought low like that.”
“Aren’t we in the same situation? Aren’t mortals important in maintaining our strength?” she asked with a smile. “If mortals were not so important, you wouldn’t be using a scheme to get them to join your sect.”
“That’s true. I guess it is a good thing that killing the mortals of other sects is discouraged. I wonder who came up with the rule,” he said, changing the subject.
“It was Tepid Scholar, basically. Martial Will and Black Chain were going crazy with their retribution. They killed too many beings and wiped out the dragon race to extinction,” she said as if she wasn’t hiding some dragons right now.
“Tepid Scholar stepped in to stop the wanton slaughter, and they had to listen to him back then because he was the strongest Dao Lord. Plus, the rule benefited everyone.”
Sighing, Loki said, “I keep saying that if Tepid Scholar wanted to become the strongest in the world, he could have easily done so.”
“Clearly, he had enough strength to impose rules on the world. If he had used his strength advantage to sabotage Martial Will and Black Chain, he would be the undisputed strongest.”
“Why didn’t he try to consolidate his strength anyway?” he asked, frowning.
“Who knows?” she said, shrugging. “From what I can tell, Tepid Scholar is a man of order. He likes rules and takes pride in studying, not ruling people. He especially dislikes massacres that resemble the sudden destruction of the upper realm.”
“Which is why I’m sure you’re in trouble for the massacre you committed when you killed the people of the Central Domain,” she said, chuckling.
“So you should prepare to be jointly attacked by us at any time. Just because we don’t like Black Chain doesn’t mean we will condone the wanton slaughter of innocents like that.”
Loki wasn’t concerned about that threat, as he was already working on a way to kill every Dao Lord, but he still said, “I had no choice. The Will of the World told me to destroy the Central Domain for it.”
“Yes, we know. Frankly, that is why Tepid Scholar hasn’t rallied all of us against you yet. We all want to free the Will of the World,” she said, nodding in understanding. “But the punishment will come, especially if you kill more mortals.”
“I guess I will have to bribe everyone not to kill me for that,” he said with a smile.
“Right,” Heavenly Eye said, smiling. “Maybe you’re not as bad as you seem. If you’re this agreeable and easy to work with, I’m sure we can make an exception for you about that massacre.”
“Anyway, back to the matter of ancient cultivation. I have explained how world guardians became Divine Transformation cultivators. But there are still the world killers.”
“Since world killers don’t have the support of a world and are even hated by worlds, they only have themselves to rely on to advance. Fortunately, they have a way to advance. In fact, there are two ways.”
“World killers can advance by killing a world. They can invade a small world and kill it. Once they kill the world, they will absorb the world essence from the heart of the world and use it to transform their mental world into a real world.”
“World killers have the same mental world that our Rank 5 cultivators have. With enough world essence, that mental world can become a world.”
“So instead of needing a world to advance, they become their own world? That’s interesting.” Loki said in appreciation.
“I think so too, especially since that’s how the Cave Heaven came to be,” she said, nodding in agreement.
“The other way to advance is to kill enough world guardians. Each time world killers killed world guardians, they would absorb some of their power and world essence. When enough world essence has been absorbed, they too would become Divine Transformation cultivators.”
