THE GOD EATER

Chapter 1320: How Proud!

Chapter 1320: How Proud!

Then he said to Wandering Thief, “Describe exactly to us how the conversation with him went.”

Wandering Thief nodded as he said, “He denied being the attacker, so I asked him to swear that he had nothing to do with the attack to trap him and force him to confess.”

“At first, he refused to swear the oath. So I thought that he was the culprit. Then he asked to hear the details of the time that you reversed.”

“I was sure that he was the time traveler, so I thought he was messing with me. But now, I’m not so sure. In fact, all of the nitty-gritty questions he asked about every little thing now make more sense.”

“After the questions, he offered to swear the oath. He also said that this was all a scheme to get him to protect us.”

War Mongerer immediately chuckled and said, “How proud! He actually said that this was all a plan to get him to accept us as his subordinates? If he is pretending, he is very good at it.”

But Nameless Fool took it seriously and said solemnly, “If he is pretending, he is definitely good at it because he didn’t offer to swear the oath when you first asked.”

“If he had decided to swear that oath as soon as you requested it, then I would be certain he could break oaths. But he refused it, adequately displaying his pride as the strongest Dao Lord and the proper suspicion of a Dao Lord.”

“Then, after getting the full picture and cracking our supposed scheme, he decided to swear the oath. All in all, I am not sure whether he did it anymore. I am very confused.”

Wandering Thief sighed and said, “On the bright side, this oath has no downside for us.”

“We have no reason not to go through with it. Plus, we might actually be able to use it to gain Ragnarok’s protection.”

“And if Ragnarok is the attacker, even if he can break oaths, he wouldn’t try to kill us anymore now that we’re his subordinates. That’s a win if you ask me.”

Shrugging, he said, “If it doesn’t work, then it would mean that Ragnarok was not the killer and we’ve been barking up the wrong tree.”

“Alright then. Let’s go through with it,” War Mongerer said, nodding.

Nameless Fool didn’t answer immediately as he was still thinking about the matter.

After a few milliseconds of thinking, he said, “Whatever. But if it doesn’t work, we should withdraw your sect from Thief’s Haven.”

“I’ve been thinking about why only you have been attacked so far, not us. The reasons I’ve come up with are either motive or means.”

“If it is motive, it means the attacker chose you specifically for various reasons, such as hatred. If it is means, that would imply that the attack can only target you.”

Shaking his head, he said, “In the case of motive, there is nothing we can do to stop the attack, especially since we don’t even know who the attacker is. But if it is means, we can do something to avoid the attacks.”

“I asked myself this: if the attacker can only target you, what makes you easy to target? What makes you different from us?” he said, finally looking up at them.

“The answers I came up with were that you’ve been a Dao Lord longer than us and have given the attacker enough time to make proper arrangements for the attack, or that you have a sect and mortals connected to you, which is something we don’t have.”

“That last option resonated deeply with me because the attack is like a curse, and it can spread to people connected to the source. Plus, War Mongerer mentioned that the projection of your Supreme Metac was attacked simultaneously.”

“Finally, if the deaths of the mortals in your sect are related to the attack, then your sect must be your weakness. This is a problem that can he fixed by cutting off your sect.”

“As for the other option, if the attacker was able to target you because they had ample time to prepare, there is nothing we can do. This is why I gave up on it.”

“Give up in my sect?” Wandering Thief asked with uncertainty. “That will cut me off from any supply of lifespan. That will be killing me slowly.”

“In fact, instead of cutting him off from his, we need to establish our own sects, or we won’t be able to survive much longer,” War Mongerer also said, concerned.

In response, Nameless Fool said, “I know that, which is why I said we should leave it as our last option.”

“You only have two more time reversals in you. So if the oath with Ragnarok doesn’t work, we will become desperate, and it would be better to cut off every source of risk.”

“What you said makes sense?” Wandering Thief said, nodding.

Then he said, “Since we’ve agreed, I’ll go ahead with the oath with Ragnarok.”

In the divine constellation, he said to Loki, “I’ve spoken to my brothers. We agree to the oath as long as you make it in your Dao Heart.”

“Splendid,” Ragnarok said eagerly.

“I swear in my Dao Heart that I don’t know anything about the Curse attack and that I haven’t attacked Wandering Thief ever since he became a Dao Lord.”

“I also swear on my Dao Heart to protect him and his brothers as long as they serve me as my subordinates and never threaten me. This oath will take over as soon as Wandering Thief and his brothers swear to become my subordinates and help me become the Domain King,” he swore wholeheartedly with the Freedom Supreme Metac already activated.

Wandering Thief also activated the Freedom Supreme Metac as he said, “I swear on my Dao Heart to serve Ragnarok as his subordinate, never threaten his position as Mountain Lord, and help him become the Domain King.
