Chapter 1384: I Believe.
Chapter 1384: I Believe.
Wandering Thief watched him leave, unable to decide what to feel. For some reason, all his anger had disappeared, so instead of shouting and cursing Ragnarok, he just stood there unmoving.
"Is Black Chain right?" he asked himself, uncertain.
In the past, Black Chain had been the villain who destroyed his life, and he swore he’d never be like him. He still thought Black Chain was evil, but he wasn’t so sure he should keep resisting becoming more like him.
This uncertainty gnawed at him, eating him from within. He wanted to dismiss everything Black Chain said, but it was too hard to ignore the words of the victor who had just told him why they won.
He remained frozen for 21 seconds, and would have lasted longer if someone hadn’t reached out to him through the divine constellation.
Martial Will was the one contacting him in the divine constellation. The Dao Lord of the Martial Body Sect’s Divine Spirit was poking into the projection of his Supreme Metac again and again.
He didn’t respond after the first nudge, so Martial Will pressed him again. And again until Wandering Thief stopped spiraling, shook his head vigorously to clear his mind, and accepted the request for communication.
Wandering Thief forced a smile as he said, "Martial Will, my friend. How have you been? I hope..."
"Cut the chit-chat," Martial Will said, interrupting him.
"I heard you are untrustworthy and break oaths with your Freedom Supreme Metac. Should I be worried?"
Wandering Thief sighed upon hearing this. Then he put his hand to his forehead and kneaded it. For some reason, he was feeling a headache.
A divine being shouldn’t get sick or have headaches, yet a great and powerful Dao Lord was feeling sick. It was absurd, but that was the reality. The worst part was that there was no pill he could use to cure his headache magically.
As he kneaded his head, he thought, ’Of course, he told everyone.’
’Why would he stop at Heavenly Eye, the one person who can definitely confirm that he was speaking the truth? No, he had to tell Black Chain and everyone to make sure that I can’t escape from this.’
’He is really treating my secret like a weapon and brandishing it against me without holding back. There is only one way to get out of this. I must control the narrative to remove the edge from this weapon of his.’
So he said to Martial Will, "Yes, I can break oaths. My Freedom Supreme Metac can break oaths, but you don’t have anything to worry about."
Martial Will nodded and said, "Ok."
Then the Dao Lord of the Four Directions Sect turned to leave.
"Hold on! Where are you going? Don’t do anything rash," Wandering Thief called out anxiously.
"Why would I do anything rash?" Martial Will asked, confused.
"You just left like that. It is not normal at all," Wandering Thief said, trying to explain his reasoning.
But Martial Will became even more confused after listening to the explanation. He asked in confusion, "What else is there to talk about?"
"I came here to question you, and I got my answer. So I wanted to leave. How is that wrong? Am I to stay here to look at your face?"
"Are you satisfied with my answer just like that?" Wandering Thief asked, incredulous.
Martial Will responded by nodding and said, "Yes."
"I believe you. So what else is there to say?"
"Wait a minute. You believe me? That can’t be right," Wandering Thief said, shaking his head. "You know that if I can break oaths, it means the oaths we swore to create this alliance are invalid, right?"
In response, Martial Will frowned and asked, "Why are you explaining the consequence of your Supreme Metac to me? Do you think I’m stupid? Do you think I can’t come up with that myself?"
"No, no, no, no, no. I didn’t mean that at all," Wandering said as he shook his head vigorously. "I only meant that I am untrustworthy. I am not worthy of your trust."
Hearing this, Martial Will smiled and said, "I see. You’re the stupid one."
"Huh?" Wandering Thief said, trying to ask a question but unable to find the right words because of how absurd the conversation was getting.
Fortunately, he didn’t need to ask in "big words." As simple as his question was, Martial Will understood him.
So the Dao Lord of the Martial Body Sect chuckled and said, "If there is anyone worthy of trust among all of us, it is you and your brothers."
"I have seen how you three treat each other. I have also seen how you treated the Human Emperor and the Farming God. All I saw was sincerity and pure, unadulterated friendship."
"Even though you could reverse time back then, you didn’t treat the Human Emperor, the Farming God, and each other as consumables for victory."
"You didn’t sacrifice each other or use each other as faceless tools. I like that kind of straightforward attitude. You’re exactly the kind of people I can feel comfortable fighting with."
"But, but, but,..." he said, unable to find the right words once again.
Martial Will laughed harder, seeing Wandering Thief’s reaction. Then he said, "I know you’re shocked. You can’t believe a Dao Lord would say something like that. But I think it is the truth."
"Honestly, I admire the three of you. I admired your strength and talent back then, which was one of the reasons I decided to join Black Chain to fight you."
"I wanted to prove that I was better than you three even if I didn’t have your talent and Cosmic Daos. So I joined the side that should have lost."
"With the way things have turned out, I achieved my goal. Now I can comfortably say that I am better than you even if you’re more talented. So I can join your side and fight with you against a great enemy now fully knowing that I won’t be some accessory if we win."
