Chapter 940: Immense Regrets.

Heavenly Eye said nonchalantly, "What are you shouting about? It is not as if you’ll be the first one to realize that something was wrong. Sword Maestro was saying so earlier, but you didn’t believe him."

"Instead of helping him, you stood by and watched him die. Now it is your turn. The worst that will happen is that your avatar dies. If Sword Maestro can withstand such a loss without making a fuss, you should be able to handle it."

Black Chains had a lot to say about this supposed responsibility of his not to make a fuss. He had no reason to hold back, so he said, "First of all, Sword Maestro didn’t allow his avatar to die without making a fuss. He tried everything he could to stop it, including letting me humiliate him."

"Secondly, even if Sword Maestro didn’t care about the death of his avatar, it doesn’t mean I shouldn’t care about mine. I am not like Sword Maestro. I don’t have so many pathways that I’m willing to lose one or two without batting an eye."

He began, "Thirdly, there was a lot of uncertainty concerning the matter of Sword Maestro’s weakness. It shouldn’t have happened, so it looked like he was pretending. So it is forgivable that we didn’t believe him, while it is unreasonable for you to ignore this threat at this moment."

In response, Heavenly Eye rolled her eyes as she said, "At least, I must humiliate you and pretend to want to help you before I actually do anything to help you."

Hearing what she said, Black Chains knew that he couldn’t rely on her. So he ignored her and said to the other Dao Lords, "You don’t need to help me. I won’t ask you to risk yourself to do something like that. I only ask that you stop holding down my avatars."

At this point, he was beginning to regret that he made five avatars descend at once.

When he made the five avatars descend, it was to increase his chances of success in the struggle for the Devouring Pathway and the Luck Pathway.

He wanted them both, and he knew that if he sent only one avatar, the others would gang up on it and kill it. Therefore, he wouldn’t have gained anything. He would only have lost one avatar.

So instead of doing too little and regretting that he didn’t do enough, he decided to go all out. So he sent the five avatars.

With the five avatars, he stood a chance of getting the Devouring Supreme Metac, the Luck Supreme Metac, and even one or two more Supreme Metacs from the other Dao Lords when he killed their avatars. But things have turned sour very quickly.

He has now begun to regret investing so much in this struggle. Instead of hoping to gain more Supreme Metacs. His expectations have become a hope to return to his true body intact.

He knew that it was going to be difficult to get the other Dao Lords to give up on this opportunity to weaken him, so he said, "Don’t be blinded by hatred. This matter is something that concerns all of us and could hurt all of us."

"I was short-sighted earlier and didn’t listen to Sword Maestro or help him. Now I regret it. I extremely regret it."

"If you follow my footsteps and prioritize your selfish interests, it will soon be your turn. At that time, we would have weakened ourselves too much to deal with the dragon. You will also regret not listening to me now."

Before anyone else could express their opinions, Tepid Scholar rushed to say, "What you said is valid. It is highly possible that the dragon will turn on us if we continue to indulge him."

"I have always looked down at you for being weak. I thought that you were weak in power and in character. But now, I see that you’re only weak in power. Your character is impeccable."

He wanted to continue talking, but Tepid Scholar interrupted him, saying, "I wasn’t done talking. Maybe you should listen to what I have to say before you start singing my praises."

His words made Heavenly Eye chuckle knowingly. She seemed to find something about what Tepid Scholar said to be amusing.

Black Chains ignored her and frowned as he said, "What else is there to say?"

Tepid Scholar replied, saying, "The plan I outlined is what we should do. I want to do it, but I won’t do it until you give me back the Forging Pathway."

Black Chains immediately said, "Impossible."

His hackle was raised like a rooster that had been startled and was getting ready to do battle. He spoke as if he would rather die than give up one of his pathways.

In case his determination wasn’t obvious from the tone of his voice, he made it clear when he said, "I would rather die than give you the Forging Pathway."

But Tepid Scholar didn’t take his determination seriously. The Dao Lord of the Myriad Phenomenon Sect said, "Oh. Are you sure about that?"

Before Black Chains could speak to answer, Tepid Scholar reminded him, saying, "Think about it again. Is it worth it to lose a Cosmic Dao than to give up a Grand Dao? And take note that this is my offer now that you’re still strong and have five pathways."
