Chapter 531: Tell me
Chapter 531: Tell me
"Tell me," focusing on him, Virus proceeded, "what happened between our Poison Deity clan and the Silver Sky sect?"
He reiterated, "why was there a war?"
"Huh?" Surprised by this question that didn't seem to be of any significance, Arsalan paused and took a glimpse of his young master's face.
"Stop looking at me like that," catching the confusion, Virus clarified, "I just heard some disciples talking about it, so I got curious."
"Ah, I see." Nodding in understanding, Arsalan answered, "To be honest, I don't know why there was a war between us and why our clan decided to invade and annihilate them."
Since Arsalan wasn't really a figure of authority that others would bother explaining their motives to, he had expected as much. Therefore, he posed the main question.
"Is that so? Then, describe what happened after we won the war. Were all the members of the Silver Sky sect slaughtered?" He inquisitively raised an eyebrow.
"…" Tilting his head down, Arsalan paused for a split second before finally opening his mouth again, "Although nearly all of them were indeed killed off, some are still alive."
"Oh? Tell me more." Feigning astonishment, Virus awaited further details.
"I heard some of the disciples and elders of the Silver Sky sect were held captive and brought back to the clan as slaves." He said in a clear tone.
Since the part Virus had been waiting for was here, at last, he probed while feigning ignorance, "Hmm? That doesn't sound right. Then, where are they right now? I see no slaves around."
"Well, that's because all those captives were taken for forced labor… to our maximum-security prison, the Qi Ingot vein mine."
Listening up to this point, Virus thought it made more sense now. "And where is this mine located? Are we permitted to visit?"
"Of course, it is beneath the river. But, other than the highest-ranking elders, the faction chiefs, and the ruling chief, no disciples or whatnot is allowed entry there… so, no, we cannot." Shaking his head, Arsalan denied the possibility.
"There is a famous saying that other than those three seats of power, no one was, is, or will ever enter and have the chance of returning alive from that hell-hole." An expression of trepidation was shimmering on Arsalan's face at this point. "In fact, there is no record of even a dead body leaving there."
With a cringe on his countenance, Virus' mind got busy.
'So, there was a mine beneath the river as well… that must be one of the reasons why the Poison Deity clan was founded and flourished here.'
'Notwithstanding, the survivors must be working there as we speak.'
Now that Virus had some information regarding the survivors of his sect, some hope was inflamed within Virus' heart. 'Apprentice sister, you have to be well and alive there… if you're not…'
A few seconds later, exuding a hell-freezing coldness from his pupils, Virus concluded his pondering line, 'I'll burn this clan to the ground.'
"We're here, young master." Brought out of reverie by Arsalan's announcement, Virus spotted a floating mission center on the water of the wide river some distance from their position.
As usual, a bridge connected both Deity and Poison faction territories to the floating construction.
"Let's go." Walking on the bridge, accompanied by Arsalan, the two arrived and entered the Mission Center with no delay.
While going past the gate, however, recalling Virus' unhealthy condition, Arsalan opened his mouth on his own and started elaborating on the Mission Center.
"Young master, to my knowledge, the Mission Center has several floors. Each floor has a big board accommodating a variety of missions attached to them."
"Additionally, each of those boards and the missions on them are divided and distributed based on their level of difficulty and the talent category they are judged as," Arsalan announced patiently.
"They are respectively the Copper Board, the Silver Board, and the Gold Board." Without dilly-dallying, Arsalan picked up the rest, "The Copper Board is installed on the first floor and as its name suggests, one has to be at least in the Copper Category of talent to be permitted to accept a mission from there."
"As for the Silver and Gold Board, they are adjusted similar to the Copper Board. The Silver Board is on the second floor while the Gold Board is on the third floor. The minimum level of requirement for entry and receiving missions from there are as their name implies."
"So, I can only enter the first floor right now…"
"That is correct, young master. Until you upgrade yourself to the Silver talent, that is your limit indeed." He pronouncedly nodded once.
"Upgrade? That's possible too? Isn't the talent determined by age and the speed of cultivation from the beginning?" Since this vital subject has been raised as well, Virus wasn't going to lose this opportunity.
"That's true. However, there is another factor that influences one's talent… and that's the overall achievement in the clan."
"Oh? Tell me about it." Eyes shining in anticipation, Virus was truly looking forward to his following response.
"Umm, you see, young master, I heard when a disciple's overall achievement in the sect goes beyond a specific point, regardless of their age or level of cultivation, that person can upgrade himself to the next level of talent."
Listening up to this point, Virus' pupils were beaming in exhilaration as he inferred where Arsalan was going with this. "Are you trying to say the disciples can increase their overall achievement rate and hence their talent category by completing missions?"
"Yes, young master." Bowing respectfully, Arsalan confirmed. By now, they were inside the first floor already as Arsalan pointed at a big board in front of them. "That's the Copper Board and those papers assigned on them are the relevant copper missions… you can select whichever one you desire."
Rubbing his chin with his gaze fixed on the board, Virus murmured, "Is that so?"
Meanwhile, focusing on the board, he glimpsed through some of them.
