The night was deep and quiet.

In the purple bamboo forest of the Imperial Advisor's Hall, a small bamboo house was faintly lit by an oil lamp.

The Imperial Advisor sat kneeling on a round cushion.

“Master…” Yu He had just lifted the curtain, intending to report to the Imperial Advisor about the progress of the search for the Little County Princess. His Senior Brother Ye Qing had not yet found anything, and Yu He was unsure whether more people should be sent.

As soon as the words were on his lips, he saw the Imperial Advisor sitting motionless at the small table in front of him, and the words suddenly stuck in his throat.

There were three teacups on the table.

One in front of the Imperial Advisor, one beside him, and one across from him.

Was his master waiting for a friend?

Master didn’t have any friends though.

Yu He had been in the Imperial Advisor's Hall for ten years, and he had never seen his master have close contact with anyone, except for playing chess with Old Master Meng.

But his master’s relationship with Old Master Meng was limited to playing chess.

The arrangement of the teacups was strange too. Why would someone sit beside his master?

Shouldn’t they all be placed opposite him?

This was not the first time Yu He had seen this scene, but he still couldn’t understand what his master was doing.

He had privately asked his Senior Brother Ye Qing about it, but his senior brother only told him not to ask too many questions and not to disturb their master during such times.

Yu He carefully set the curtain down and quietly retreated.

As he thought about his master sitting there, unsure whether he was waiting or reminiscing, Yu He’s expression momentarily faltered.

Right. His master had two very important friends.

Yu He thought to himself.

……

In the forest, Qi Xuan was left utterly bewildered by the situation.

What happened to counting to three? Did you eat up the two and three?

Youngsters these days have no sense of honor!

Qi Xuan had lived for over thirty years and had never encountered someone so treacherous. No underhanded tactic could compare to this ruthlessness.

Qi Xuan was so shocked that even his instincts dulled for a second.

He stood there in a daze, staring at Gu Jiao.

Gu Jiao innocently looked back at him and twisted the red-tasseled silver spear in his thigh!

“Damn it!”

The pain made Qi Xuan’s body bristle with goosebumps, and his facial features nearly flew off his face!

It was bad enough that you stabbed me, but you had to twist it too!

Do you think you’re grinding some meat?

Qi Xuan finally snapped back to his senses and threw a palm strike at Gu Jiao.

Gu Jiao had already anticipated his move. With a swift kick to his palm, she used the force from his strike to propel herself backward, pulling the red-tasseled silver spear along out of his thigh.

Blood gushed from Qi Xuan’s thigh like a fountain!

He had never encountered such an infuriating person!

Gritting his teeth, Qi Xuan quickly pressed on the pressure point in his leg, halting the spurting blood.

He then swiftly tore off a strip of his clothing and wrapped it around his wound.

The series of movements was fluid and practiced, revealing that he had certainly been no stranger to injuries in his martial arts training.

No one was born an expert. While talent was important, without years of grueling practice, it was impossible to reach a level that most people could not touch.

Gu Jiao steadied herself ten paces away from Qi Xuan.

The red-tasseled silver spear was truly a wonderful weapon——it could be used both offensively and defensively, for direct confrontation or covert combat, and when necessary, it could deliver a surprise attack without fail.

Gu Jiao looked at Qi Xuan provocatively, “You promised to let me have three moves, yet here you are breaking your word?"

Qi Xuan snapped in anger, "You said we’d start when you counted to three!"

Gu Jiao retorted, "I never said I’d count them all out loud. I counted two and three in my head."

Qi Xuan, who felt the corner of his mouth twitch: "..."

Qi Xuan decided not to waste any more words with Gu Jiao; otherwise, before they even began fighting, he would be infuriated to death first.

Without further ado, Qi Xuan struck.

However, as soon as Qi Xuan raised his hand, he sensed something was wrong.

What was going on?

Why couldn’t he muster any strength in his arm?

Qi Xuan glared at Gu Jiao with murderous intent, "You little brat! What did you do to me?!"

"Nothing much, just applied something to the tip of my spear." Gu Jiao replied calmly. She had already noticed someone in the forest and instinctively sensed that they were a highly skilled expert, so she had tampered with the spearhead.

She did it so discreetly that even Mu Qingchen and the bodyguard beside her thought she was just cleaning the spear.

Qi Xuan focused on his internal force, and the situation was even worse than he feared—he could hardly feel it at all.

"What the hell did you put on there?"

Gu Jiao replied, "Neurotoxin."

Qi Xuan was confused, "What kind of poison is that?"

Gu Jiao shrugged, "If you don’t understand, then never mind."

Damn it! He was from the Tang Sect, and yet there was a poison he had never heard of!

Gu Jiao didn’t give Qi Xuan any time to recover. She quickly gripped the red-tasseled silver spear with a backhand and charged at him.

Strike while the enemy was weak!

The amount of neurotoxin wasn't much, so she had to seize the opportunity.

But just as Gu Jiao got close to Qi Xuan, a death warrior from the Han Family suddenly charged out of the woods!

The death warrior blocked the spear aimed at Qi Xuan.

Mu Qingchen handed Little Jing Kong to the nearby bodyguard. The bodyguard held one child in each hand, looking bewildered at his young master.

"I’ll take care of him." Mu Qingchen said, forcing the death warrior back several steps with one sword strike.

Gu Jiao immediately launched another attack on Qi Xuan.

Qi Xuan grabbed hold of Gu Jiao's red-tasseled silver spear and used what little internal force he had left to wrest it from her hands, then hurled it forcefully into the depths of the forest.

The spear wasn’t heavy, so he was still able to throw it.

If it had been Xuanyuan Li’s divine weapon, he probably wouldn’t have been able to lift it at all.

As expected of Qi Xuan from the Tang Sect, even in such a state, he could still fight!

Gu Jiao clenched her fist and threw a punch straight at Qi Xuan's face!

Qi Xuan's head snapped to the side, and a tooth flew out.

Gu Jiao then lifted her leg without hesitation and kicked him into the air!

After that, she leapt onto a tree branch, and as Qi Xuan plummeted from mid-air, she soared up and brought her foot down hard toward his dantian!

Qi Xuan crashed to the ground with accelerated force, creating a large pit on impact.

Gu Jiao grabbed a tree branch with one hand, then sprang down, landing beside the pit .

She raised her foot again, aiming to stomp on Qi Xuan's head without mercy!

But unexpectedly, a hand, with knuckles sharply defined, grabbed her foot.

Amidst the dust, Qi Xuan wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth and sneered coldly, "It's time to end this."

In that instant, Gu Jiao felt the overwhelming, boundless internal force surging from Qi Xuan.

Description:

In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.

When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.

The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.

From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.

***

Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.

After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"

Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"

Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”

Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
