Also, many thanks to everyone who bought me coffee (*≧∀≦*)
The neurotoxin had only paralyzed Qi Xuan for such a short time.
Gu Jiao tried to pull her foot back from his hand.
But it wouldn’t budge.
Qi Xuan's killing intent surged as he spoke slowly and deliberately, "I told you, this is the end."
With those words, he twisted the hand gripping Gu Jiao's ankle downward.
You crippled Han Ye's tendons, so it's only fair that I break one of your feet as interest!
Just then, with a loud bang, Qi Xuan was blasted away by a streak of sword qi that struck like lightning!
He tapped his foot in midair, steadying himself on a tree branch.
This familiar sword qi was——
He focused his gaze.
Under the moonlit night, Gu Changqing stood before Gu Jiao, wielding a cold, gleaming longsword, looking like a cold-faced Yama.
What powerful sword qi!
Qi Xuan narrowed his eyes, glancing at Gu Changqing and then at the hundred-foot-long ravine carved into the ground by the sword strike. Unconsciously, he clenched his fists.
Why was it this guy again?
Last time, it was this same man who severed Han Ye's tendons!
Damn it.
On top of that, the residual poison in his body hadn't fully cleared, and he had been ambushed by that brat, leaving him injured.
He let out a cold snort, "I'll spare you this time, but the next time we meet will be the day you die!"
With that, he used his qinggong to leave.
Gu Changqing didn’t give chase.
His sister was more important than the enemy.
Gu Changqing turned around and asked Gu Jiao, "Are you hurt?"
"No." Gu Jiao shook her head.
Still uneasy, Gu Changqing handed his longsword to Gu Jiao, asking her to hold it. Then he knelt on one knee, lifted her foot, and carefully felt it. Only after confirming there was no swelling or fractures did he finally relax.
On the other side, Mu Qingchen had also finished his fight.
He wasn’t used to killing, so he simply knocked the assassin unconscious instead.
He walked over, and Gu Jiao raised her dirty hand, smearing it across Gu Changqing’s face.
Her little hand had made a big smudge on her big brother’s face...
Gu Changqing: Hmm, I guess there’s no washing up my face today.
Mu Qingchen glanced at the two of them, and just like Gu Changqing, he first asked Gu Jiao’s condition, "Are you alright?"
"I'm fine." Gu Jiao answered.
Mu Qingchen then looked toward Gu Changqing and asked, “And he is…?”
"Don’t know him."
"From the same hometown."
Gu Jiao and Gu Changqing answered at the same time.
"From the same hometown."
"Don’t know him."
Once again, Gu Jiao and Gu Changqing spoke in unison.
Mu Qingchen: "..."
Do I look easy to fool?
Mu Qingchen let out a faint snort. "If it's inconvenient to explain, then don't. It's not like I have to know."
"Oh." Gu Jiao decisively said nothing more.
Mu Qingchen: "..."
Gu Changqing’s arrival had greatly eased things for Gu Jiao.
After that, they encountered several more waves of assassins and guards, all of whom were dealt with single-handedly by Gu Changqing.
Throughout the whole ordeal, Gu Changqing fought, fed his sister, and carried Little Jing Kong.
Meanwhile, Gu Jiao ate, ate, and ate.
After finishing the last piece of jerky, Gu Jiao let out a satisfied burp and said, "We're almost out of the forest. There shouldn't be any more formidable experts left, right?"
Mu Qingchen paused for a moment, then replied, "There’s still one, and he might be even more troublesome than Qi Xuan."
Gu Jiao: "Who?"
With a serious expression, Mu Qingchen said, "Taoist Qingfeng of the Feng Family. He's a true martial arts prodigy. Though he's only twenty-six this year, his internal force far surpasses that of Qi Xuan. If we run into him, we'd just have to obediently take a beating."
Elsewhere in the forest.
Feng Wuxiu was squatting on the ground, drawing circles with a hopeless look on his face, "Elder brother, are you sure you didn’t take the wrong path?"
Taoist Qingfeng nodded, "Yes."
"But we’ve already circled this place seven times!" Feng Wuxiu pointed to an old locust tree beside them, "Every time we pass by here, I make a mark! Now there are seven marks already!"
Taoist Qingfeng stood floating in the moonlit night, exuding an immortal aura, his appearance dignified and otherworldly.
Holding a hand-drawn sheepskin map between his slender fingers, he studied it carefully and said with confidence, "This is the right way. I’ve been in this forest before, and I got out."
Feng Wuxiu asked, "How long did it take you to get out last time?"
"Not long." Taoist Qingfeng said, "Just about a month."
Feng Wuxiu: "…!!"
Feng Wuxiu clenched his fists, his teeth grinding in frustration!
He shot to his feet, roaring like a lion, "This explains why it took you three years to come down the mountain and return home!"
……
At dawn, Gu Jiao and her group finally made it out of the forest.
It was only then that they realized they had emerged in the completely opposite direction from where they had entered.
Mu Qingchen looked ahead and said, "Cross that field ridge up ahead and we'll reach the official road. Head south, and we'll see a post station."
Where there was a post station, there were carriages and horses.
The horse Gu Jiao brought from the Imperial Advisor's Hall was already exhausted beyond measure, and Gu Jiao had long stopped riding it.
Mu Qingchen’s bodyguard led the horse, while Gu Changqing carried Little Jing Kong, and Mu Qingchen carried the Little County Princess.
The group continued on their journey.
However, a small incident occurred as they crossed the ridge. The Little County Princess suddenly had difficulty breathing and started gasping for air. In no time, her face turned pale, and her lips darkened.
"Let me take a look." Gu Jiao said as she walked over. She leaned in to listen closely to the Little County Princess's heartbeat and breathing.
Mu Qingchen was momentarily breathless from the sudden proximity.
He glanced at the Little County Princess in his arms, then at Gu Jiao’s face, now close to his, and couldn’t help but clear his throat softly, "How is she?"
"It looks like an asthma attack." Gu Jiao said as she unfastened the first aid kit from her waist. She opened it and took out an asthma inhaler, "Little County Princess."
The Little County Princess opened her eyes, looking at Gu Jiao in discomfort.
Gu Jiao took her into her arms, found a place to sit down, shook the inhaler well, and removed the cap. "Exhale first, then hold this in your mouth. When I tell you to inhale, you inhale. After inhaling, don't breathe out."
The Little County Princess nodded weakly.
As the saying went, long illness makes a patient knowledgeable. Since childhood, the Little County Princess had taken medication for her asthma and was more cooperative with treatment than most children.
"Exhale." Gu Jiao instructed.
After the Little County Princess let out a small breath, Gu Jiao placed the inhaler in her mouth and pressed the button, "Inhale. Hold it in for ten counts before exhaling."
The Little County Princess obediently held the inhaler in her mouth. Though it was uncomfortable, she only looked at Gu Jiao.
"…Ten, you're good," Gu Jiao said.
The Little County Princess let out a long exhale.
"Feeling better?" Gu Jiao asked.
The Little County Princess took a few breaths, "Hoo~ Hoo~"
Feeling no further discomfort, the Little County Princess’s eyes widened in surprise.
Did she really recover this quickly?

Description:
In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.
When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.
The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.
From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.
***
Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.
After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"
Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"
Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”
Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
