The moment the words were spoken, everyone seemed to feel a powerful spirit of the Xuanyuan bloodline sweeping across the battlefield.
The morale of the soldiers split distinctly in two. While the Black Wind Cavalry and the Shadow Division surged forward with rising confidence, the Han Family’s Black Cavalry appeared to be weighed down, as if oppressed by an overwhelming presence emanating from the Xuanyuan spirits itself.
Pucheng was the final resting place of the Xuanyuan army.
Many years ago, countless Xuanyuan soldiers had perished here, some dying honorably in battle, others tragically and unjustly.
Now, as Seventh Master Xuanyuan returned, the heroic souls of the land seemed to be summoned by the heavens themselves. A cold west wind swept through, causing every Han Family cavalryman to shudder uncontrollably, an inexplicable chill crawling down their spines.
Most of them had long since forgotten how many sons the Xuanyuan Family truly had; only Fifth Master Han reacted sharply to the claim.
He sneered coldly, “The Xuanyuan Family has six masters in total. When did a seventh appear? You’re clearly an impostor pretending to be from the Xuanyuan Family!”
Never attempt to reason with a stubborn man, for he simply refuses to listen.
Liao Chen wasted no words with Fifth Master Han. With a swift motion, he slid his long sword back into its sheath attached to his saddle and drew the spear from his back.
The fluid and commanding way he wielded the spear immediately stunned Fifth Master Han once more.
Fifth Master Han’s expression turned grave as he stared at him, “That is…”
“Traitor! Prepare to die!” Liao Chen’s spear came crashing down in a fierce strike. Though Fifth Master Han managed to block it with his sword, the force was so great that half of his body went numb, and his feet slammed into the earth with a loud thud, clearly showing the overwhelming power behind the blow.
“Black Demon Horse!” Fifth Master Han shouted sharply as the black steed charged toward Liao Chen.
Liao Chen’s target was not the horse itself, but he couldn’t allow himself to be knocked away either. Just as he was about to push the horse back with his palm, the Black Wind King galloped in with a furious roar, colliding mercilessly with the charging Black Demon Horse!
The young and vigorous Black Demon Horse was forcibly pushed aside by a sixteen-year-old old horse, much to Fifth Master Han’s disbelief.
But even more shocked at the sight was Han Ye, who was locked in combat with Gu Jiao nearby.
That beast, after all these years of raising it, had turned its back and pledged loyalty to another. Truly an ungrateful, treacherous creature!
Had he known this would happen, he wouldn’t have listened to Chu Nan back then to just leave it to fend for itself.
He should have taken it back forcibly!
“Ah——”
Han Ye suddenly took a heavy kick and crashed hard onto the ground!
Gu Jiao, wielding a red-tasseled spear, stood above him and spoke coldly with a towering presence, “Don’t lose focus, or you’ll end up dead.”
Han Ye covered his aching chest and stood up, his eyes burning fiercely as he glared at Gu Jiao. “You… did you use some dark, forbidden method to boost your strength?”
“If you can’t beat me, just admit it.” Gu Jiao replied, resting the spear on her shoulder, a gesture exactly like Marquis Xuanping wielding his great blade.
She had even knocked off a Han Family cavalryman’s helmet with a single strike and was now stepping on it, “It was your Fifth Uncle who used some medicine, right? But look at him, did he win?”
Han Ye turned to look at Fifth Master Han, only to see the Han Family’s once-in-a-century expert utterly overwhelmed and unable to fight back against someone claiming to be the Seventh Master of the Xuanyuan Family.
After being thrown back again, Fifth Master Han crashed heavily to the ground, spitting out a mouthful of thick, black blood.
“How could this be…”
That was his own Fifth Uncle!
A survivor who had endured the purple herb poison, possessing terrifying internal force and what was said to be an ‘undying body’ impervious to pain and injury.
The term ‘undying body’ was an exaggeration; he was simply far more resilient than ordinary men.
No matter how severe the internal injuries, he would recover without treatment by the next day.
This time too…
The thought had barely crossed Han Ye’s mind when Liao Chen shattered his Fifth Master Han’s dantian with a single palm strike!
Liao Chen had countless chances to kill him outright, but he never did; instead, he methodically knocked him down move by move.
Yes, purple herb poison could restore the body, but could it revive a warrior’s fighting spirit?
When the very last shred of Fifth Master Han’s will to fight was crushed, he lay on the bloodstained ground, coughing up blood. It wasn’t because he had run out of strength; it was because he finally realized the vast gulf in power between himself and Liao Chen.
He was never a martial genius to begin with. His shocking abilities only came from the purple herb poison.
Liao Chen was different. He was truly powerful.
Fifth Master Han finally accepted his fate; he closed his eyes and resigned himself to the ending that awaited him.
Liao Chen pressed the tip of his spear against Fifth Master Han’s forehead, but did not drive it in.
“You let my Sixth Brother go back then. Consider this life a debt I’m repaying on his behalf.”
With that, Liao Chen withdrew his spear and turned away, leaving with resolute determination.
Suddenly, Fifth Master Han opened his eyes weakly and gazed after Liao Chen’s retreating figure. His voice was hoarse as he asked, “Is Little Six…still alive?”
Liao Chen gave no reply.
He swung himself back onto his horse and addressed Gu Jiao, who was still engaged in combat with Han Ye, “I’m going to kill Gongsun Yu. I’ll leave this place in your hands.”
Gu Jiao knocked Han Ye down with a single thrust of her spear and said, “Go ahead!”
Leading dozens of elite warriors from the Shadow Division, Liao Chen charged through the city gate.
He rode his horse while the others used qinggong to move swiftly.
Once inside the city, they scattered, disappearing like shadows without a trace.
Moving in a large group would only draw unwanted attention and risk being surrounded by Jin forces while splitting up made their movements far more covert.
They planned to regroup shortly at the City Lord’s residence.
But just as he entered the city, a child’s startled scream rang out from the city tower above.
He lifted his gaze to see.
A five-year-old boy was falling face-first from the tower, terror written across his face as clearly as if it were carved in stone.
With a powerful leap, Liao Chen sprang upward and caught the child midair.
And right at that moment——
A hailstorm of deadly concealed weapons suddenly rained down from the city tower!
The child was nothing but bait.
If Liao Chen refused to fall for the trap, the child would fall to his death for nothing.
If he took the bait, they would both be killed by the hidden weapons.
Such a cruel and vicious plan!
With a swift flick of his sleeve, Liao Chen drew his sword and stabbed it into the tower’s wall. Placing one foot on the blade, he used the tremendous spring to launch himself forward like an arrow released from a bowstring.
The concealed weapons clattered as they struck the sword and the hard bluestone pavement below.
His horse was injured as well and could no longer continue the fight.
Cradling the child in his arms, he knelt on one knee at the corner of the street and asked, “Are you alright?”
The child was so terrified he was frozen, unable even to cry.
Liao Chen’s expression turned cold as he turned to look up at the towering city wall.
On the tower above stood a graceful young woman dressed in pink, smiling teasingly at him.
“So, you’re Seventh Master Xuanyuan? The Xuanyuan Qi my Lord killed that day is your father? How amusing. So you actually managed to dodge my flying flower hidden weapons!”
Amusing?
The fact that she had just thrown an innocent child from the tower was glossed over as if it were nothing.
Liao Chen carefully placed the child somewhere safe, then fixed his gaze on the city tower, murderous intent sharp as a blade.
Such a height was impossible to scale by qinggong alone, but since he had just planted his sword there, he could use it as a foothold.
Time to try.
Liao Chen drew the spear from his back and thrust it with a whoosh onto the long sword lodged in the wall.
With two points of leverage, failure was unlikely.
He soared upward in a single bound.
“No way you’re climbing the city tower barehanded! Humph, how confident are you in your qinggong?” Yue Liuyi watched silently, expecting him to fall to his death.
To her shock, Liao Chen actually made it up.
Her eyes widened in disbelief as she stared at the man who had just appeared before her, so surprised she forgot to strike.
Boom!
Just then, a powerful slash of sword qi came swinging from behind Yue Liuyi!

Description:
In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.
When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.
The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.
From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.
***
Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.
After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"
Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"
Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”
Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
