Also, many thanks to everyone who bought me coffee (*≧∀≦*)
Gongsun Yu gripped his long sword tightly, steeling himself for a final, full-force strike.
But just at that moment, something entirely unexpected occurred.
A long-closed shop by the side of the street suddenly creaked open.
From within, a man dressed in a deep blue Taoist robe stepped out, holding the hand of a small child no older than four.
The force of Liao Chen and Gongsun Yu’s impending strike was far too fierce and far too fast, there wasn’t even the slightest time for others to react. If nothing changed, that man and child would be instantly killed by the clashing wave of their internal force.
Gongsun Yu, of course, didn’t care in the slightest. After all, they weren’t citizens of the State of Jin.
But Liao Chen’s expression changed drastically.
The technique he had already released could no longer be recalled in time.
All he could do was fling himself forward with a burst of movement.
Taoist Qingfeng looked up and saw Liao Chen flying straight toward him. He frowned and began to speak, “Hey, you——”
Before the sentence could finish, a massive surge of internal force crashed into Liao Chen’s body. His entire frame went rigid, and with a violent cough, he spat out a mouthful of blood.
Taoist Qingfeng’s gaze darkened. He brushed Liao Chen aside, but Gongsun Yu had already used that moment to accelerate, vanishing into the distance like a wisp of smoke!
“You didn’t need to save me. I could’ve handled it.” said Taoist Qingfeng.
“I wasn’t saving you.” Liao Chen replied, glancing at the four-year-old child. “I was saving him.”
The little boy looked up at Taoist Qingfeng in confusion.
Taoist Qingfeng gave a nonchalant “Oh.”
Liao Chen leaned against the wall and slowly slid down to sit, drained of all strength. He let out a faint laugh, and in a feeble voice, he said, “You pompous guy... I suppose you’re getting what you wanted now. Can you do one thing for me? Kill Gongsun Yu.”
“Alright.” Taoist Qingfeng answered simply.
Then he turned to the child and instructed, “Keep an eye on him. I’ll be back in a moment.”
The little boy nodded obediently.
With that, Taoist Qingfeng used his qinggong to leap into pursuit of Gongsun Yu’s galloping horse.
By this time, the southern gate had been completely recaptured by the State of Yan. The remaining forces of the Shadow Division and the Black Wind Cavalry were already forming new ranks on the city walls and towers.
Gongsun Yu lowered the visor of his helmet.
There was only one option left, to charge through.
He tightened his grip on the reins and drew a long needle, which he ruthlessly jabbed into the horse’s flank.
The horse neighed in pain and bolted forward like a creature possessed!
“Who goes there! Stop!” The city guards shouted, drawing their swords.
But Gongsun Yu cut them down with a single sweep of his blade!
As the foremost warrior of the State of Jin, his reputation was no idle boast. Riding alone, he charged straight through the heavily guarded city gate and broke through by sheer force!
“What just happened?” Gu Jiao came down from the wall and asked.
“A man just charged out of the gate!” a soldier reported.
“Did you get a good look at who it was?” she asked.
The soldier shook his head. “Couldn’t see clearly, only that he was wearing Jin army armor!”
“The Jin army…” Gu Jiao stared at the fading figure in the distance. “Could that have been Gongsun Yu? Big Boss!”
The Black Wind King reared up on its hind legs and galloped to her side.
Gu Jiao swung onto the horse’s back, snatched her red-tasseled spear from Wen Renchong’s hand, and without the slightest hesitation, gave chase!
If that man was truly Gongsun Yu, then she absolutely could not let him return to the State of Jin alive!
Gongsun Yu’s internal injuries were severe, and he had no strength to turn back and fight Gu Jiao.
An hour passed. Then another…
Night fell. A crescent moon climbed into the sky.
And Gu Jiao remained in relentless pursuit!
Though Gongsun Yu had gained a considerable lead, his horse was simply no match for the Black Wind King’s speed.
As he neared the border city, the Black Wind King finally began to catch up.
Gongsun Yu crossed a wooden bridge, and with a single slash of his sword, he severed it behind him!
But the Black Wind King did not stop. As if divinely aided, it soared straight over the gap!
The distance between them grew shorter and shorter.
Gongsun Yu looked toward the city gates of the border city ahead and shouted, “Open the gates——”
Up on the ramparts, a Jin soldier cried out in excitement, “It’s the Grand General! The Grand General has returned!”
“Hurry, open the gates!”
“Look over there!”
Roughly three li away, at the foot of the mountain, was a dense mass of black surged like a wave. It was the Black Wind Cavalry, the cavalry force of the State of Yan… pressing in upon them!
They couldn’t open the gates!
All their forces had been sent to the frontlines against the State of Yan; if the gates were opened now, they wouldn’t be able to hold off the charge!
“Lower the ropes!” Ordered the commanding officer guarding the walls.
The Jin soldiers quickly threw down long, thick ropes.
Gongsun Yu clenched his jaw tightly, suppressing the stabbing pain from his internal injuries. Then, with a burst of qinggong, he leapt up and caught hold of the rope.
“Pull the General up quickly!” the commanding officer urged.
The soldiers worked together, hauling him upward with all their strength!
The commanding officer cast a sharp glance at the State of Yan’s cavalry that was drawing nearer and nearer. In a stern voice, he barked, “Archers ready, fire!”
At his command, a storm of arrows filled the night sky, each one slicing through the air with a sharp whistling sound as they poured down like a torrential rain!
Clang!
One arrow struck Gu Jiao’s shoulder but was deflected by her hardened armor.
Gu Jiao didn’t retreat even half a step. She continued to charge toward Gongsun Yu with unwavering momentum.
When she was just a few dozen paces from the city wall, Gongsun Yu had already been pulled more than halfway up. Given that she lacked qinggong, she simply had no means of pulling him back down.
Gongsun Yu looked down and curled his lips into a mocking smile. So this was the new commander of the Black Wind Cavalry? And yet, he still couldn’t kill him.
The youth tilted her head upward, her cheeks still bearing a trace of youthful softness, but her eyes were as calm as a still lake.
It was that chilling, unwavering gaze that caused Gongsun Yu’s brows to knit ever so slightly.
For some reason, a sharp sense of unease flickered across his heart.
Can you guess… why I let you come back?
The youth’s steed pressed forward through the arrow storm without hesitation.
Impossible! He can’t reach me!
There’s nothing to be afraid of!
At that moment, the youth raised the red-tasseled spear in her hand.
A sudden jolt slammed into Gongsun Yu’s chest.
“No——”
“Farewell, Gongsun Yu.”
The red-tasseled spear flew like a gust of wind, carrying over ten years of burning fury from the Xuanyuan Family. It tore through the air with the weight of mountains and rivers behind it, slamming directly into Gongsun Yu’s chest, and in one unstoppable blow, it pinned him hard against the walls of the State of Jin’s border city!
Just one step away…
He had been just one step from home…
And now, he would never return.
His eyes widened in disbelief as he stared at the terrifyingly calm youth amidst the falling arrows.
You’re not the commander of the Black Wind Cavalry.
You’re not.
“You… who… are… you…”

Description:
In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.
When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.
The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.
From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.
***
Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.
After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"
Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"
Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”
Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
