Also, many thanks to everyone who bought me coffee (*≧∀≦*)
The sharp edge sliced open Long Yi’s palms, and warm blood flowed down.
Sect Leader Rong was startled. He had clearly not expected that even at the brink of death, Long Yi could still summon such strength.
Long Yi’s aura was surging wildly!
With a sudden motion, Long Yi twisted his hand and snapped Sect Leader Rong’s longsword in two with a loud crack. Then, with a speed swift as lightning, he leapt forward, and without the slightest hesitation, drove the broken blade straight into Sect Leader Rong’s chest!
Sect Leader Rong froze in disbelief. “How could this be…”
Long Yi’s eyes were cold as he stared at him. “You should never… have taken me away from his side!”
As he spoke, he gripped the sword shard tightly and thrust it deeper, piercing clean through Sect Leader Rong’s chest!
With a sharp crack, the mask on Sect Leader Rong’s face split apart, and he collapsed to the ground with his expression twisted in horror.
Long Yi pressed his palm against the floor; his powerful internal force jolted the broken blades up into the air, and with a forceful strike, they shot down and stabbed into Sect Leader Rong’s chest once more!
Even for one who consumed purple herb fruit as if it were daily rice, two heavy sword wounds were beyond endurance.
Sect Leader Rong spewed blood violently.
In a duel between true experts, every strike teetered on the edge of life and death.
Losing swiftly was nothing strange, but for him to lose, that should have been impossible.
His martial arts surpassed Shi Tian’s, and Shi Tian had not lost control or gone berserk, so how could he unleash such terrifying strength?
Long Yi swept his great palm through the air, and the Black Moon sword, which had been knocked away, flew back into his grasp.
Without mercy, he stabbed a third sword strike into Sect Leader Rong!
Sect Leader Rong’s body went rigid, his strength utterly spent, leaving him no chance to resist.
Long Yi raised his longsword again, prepared to drive in a fourth strike to dig out his heart, but at that instant, something wholly unexpected occurred.
The entire council chamber began to tremble, shaking like an earthquake. Long Yi staggered; behind the wooden wall, Xiao Heng and Gu Jiao’s chairs toppled forward together.
Clenching her teeth, Gu Jiao fought past her body’s weakness and pulled Xiao Heng into her arms.
The two of them rolled across the ground twice before barely coming to a stop.
The black-robed man stumbled as well, crashing into the wooden wall behind him.
The wall collapsed, and he tumbled onto the council chamber floor.
Glancing once at Sect Leader Rong lying in his pool of blood, the black-robed man’s expression changed sharply. He went to grab him and quickly fled.
The tremors still continued.
Long Yi spotted Xiao Heng and Gu Jiao at the back of the council chamber. With a leap, he flew toward them.
With two people to protect, he could not keep hold of a sword.
He flung aside the Black Moon sword, seized one in each arm, and charged toward the doors with them.
But just as he reached the exit, the floor suddenly split apart, and all three of them plummeted down.
……
Within a pitch-black underground passage, Gu Yan and Gu Chengfeng were being shaken about in every direction. Gu Chengfeng’s head smacked heavily against the wall, while Gu Yan, thanks to his long observation of the “tumbling brat” Little Jing Kong, had mastered a perfect “tumbling technique.”
He did not land painfully.
“What the hell is going on? Is the earth dragon turning over or something?” Gu Chengfeng shouted in frustration.
Gu Yan said nothing, simply curled up with his arms shielding his head and chest in a protective posture.
At last, the tremors subsided.
Gu Chengfeng steadied himself against the wall and stood up. By now, both of them were disheveled, though he looked worse with his hair crown missing completely.
“You okay?” He reached out to help Gu Yan.
“I’m fine.” Gu Yan grabbed his hand and stood, glancing around before asking, “Where have we ended up?”
Gu Chengfeng rubbed his dizzy head, panting with one hand against his chest. “No idea. Hey, do you have a flame stick? Mine must’ve dropped.”
Gu Yan pulled one out from his robe. “I do.”
Gu Chengfeng took it, blew it to light, and used the flickering flame to guide them step by step through the passage.
After falling from the courtyard of the small bamboo house, they had been pulled into this strange tunnel.
The two of them had kept walking through it, when suddenly the earlier tremors struck without warning.
He had nearly thought the whole passage was going to collapse.
“Where is this? There’s blood all over the floor.” Gu Chengfeng stepped into the council chamber, crouched down, and touched the fresh bloodstains with his fingertips. “Fresh… there was a fight here.”
Looking around, he spotted amidst the ruins a gleaming peacock-feathered treasure sword.
He picked it up, examined it carefully, and exclaimed in awe, “Whoa, a sword of black iron! It’s mine now!”
Meanwhile, Gu Yan had discovered a mask lying nearby.
Gu Yan picked up the mask, sniffed it, and said, “It has my sister’s scent on it! My sister has been here!”
……
Inside the pitch-dark secret chamber, where one could not even see their own fingers, Long Yi shielded Gu Jiao and Xiao Heng with his own body.
The two quickly scrambled to their feet.
Gu Jiao reached for Long Yi’s pulse, while Xiao Heng lit a flame stick.
“Are you two alright?” He asked.
Gu Jiao replied, “I’m fine, but Long Yi is injured.”
Xiao Heng looked at the pale-faced Long Yi and asked, “Is it serious?”
Gu Jiao withdrew her hand and said, “Serious, yes. But his constitution is unique, so his life shouldn’t be in danger.”
As she spoke, she reached for the little medicine chest.
“The medicine chest is gone, and so is the mask.”
The mask had been made by someone Shangguan Qing found.
When Steward Zheng had suddenly come to the Princess Mansion saying something had happened to Duke An, she had casually stuffed the mask into the little medicine chest.
Xiao Heng looked around and said, “There’s a passage up ahead. Let’s get out of here first.”
Gu Jiao nodded, and together with Xiao Heng, she supported Long Yi up. Then she remarked with some emotion, “Who would have thought that even a small sect like Hidden Sword Manor would build a secret tunnel? It truly keeps a low profile.”
Xiao Heng frowned at the cold, icy walls around them, feeling a strong sense of danger. “Let’s move.”
Gu Jiao suddenly turned to Long Yi’s handsome face and asked, “By the way, Long Yi, who was that man in the black robe just now?”
“A gu master.” Long Yi replied.
Gu Jiao’s lips curved as her eyes sparkled. “You can really speak now.”
Long Yi: “…”

Description:
In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.
When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.
The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.
From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.
***
Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.
After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"
Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"
Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”
Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
