Also, many thanks to everyone who bought me coffee (*≧∀≦*)

The woman in red arranged for two maidservants to stand guard at the door, while she herself left to continue preparing for the wedding.

At such a critical time, it was not worth offending the Holy Maiden’s future husband, and since this was only a servant, leaving him for now was acceptable.

Besides, she had already explained the rules, and if someday the Holy Maiden blamed someone, it would not be her defying orders but rather the groom insisting.

The room was spacious and separated into an inner chamber and an outer chamber, and once the two of them sat inside the inner chamber and lowered their voices, no one outside could hear them.

Xiao Ji removed the veil and the bamboo hat and tossed them onto the table with obvious disdain.

A grown man being forced to wrap himself up like this felt unbearably stifling and absurd.

Princess Xinyang looked at his thoroughly frustrated expression and could not help wanting to laugh. She said, “The Holy Maiden holds a high position within the Dongyi Tribe, and when she marries, the customs are the same as when a man takes a wife. Her husband must observe the Three Obediences and Four Virtues, and he must not show himself recklessly in public.”

Xiao Ji cast her a half-smiling glance. “Qin Fengwen, you seem rather envious. What is it? Do you want to imprison this Marquis and turn me into your personal captive?”

Princess Xinyang huffed in anger. “When did I ever say that!”

Xiao Ji raised an eyebrow and replied, “You did not say it, which means you must have thought about it. Tsk, Qin Fengwen, I did not expect you to be this kind of person.”

Princess Xinyang’s face darkened once more. “...!!”

That night, the woman in red personally delivered the wedding garments and instructed the groom to try them on for size.

“You all may leave. He will help me change.” Xiao Ji said from behind the curtain to the people holding the garments and hair ornaments.

At her instruction, the woman in red directed the servants to place the garments on the table in the outer chamber, and then they all withdrew as ordered.

The room door remained open, as they needed to know whether the garments fit properly before they could finish their duties and leave.

Princess Xinyang carried the garments into the inner chamber and whispered, “Do you really need to try them on?”

Xiao Ji lowered his voice and answered, “If I do not try them on for them to see, they will not leave.”

This was part of their responsibility. They needed to ensure that every detail of the wedding was flawless.

If the groom’s wedding robe did not fit, they would be held accountable.

Princess Xinyang understood this perfectly and did not continue arguing. She hesitated for a moment, then asked softly, “You…”

Xiao Ji smiled as he looked at her and said, “This Marquis obviously cannot be the one to change into them. Could you lend me a hand?”

Princess Xinyang remembered that he was still seriously injured and genuinely not in any condition to move easily, so she quietly walked over and untied his clothing belt for him.

The wounds on his body were tightly wrapped with cloth, and faint traces of blood had seeped through. Beneath the bandages, the firm lines of his muscles remained clear and strong, revealing at every moment a sense of restrained but unbroken power.

Princess Xinyang’s eyelashes trembled slightly as she looked away, then turned to pick up the wedding garments. There were three layers in total: the inner garment, the middle garment, and the wedding robe.

He lifted his arms to make it easier for her to help him change.

She stood right in front of him, close enough that she could distinctly feel the masculine scent belonging exclusively to him, something quietly intoxicating.

She reached her hands behind him to tie the belt, and this movement felt almost like she was embracing him from behind.

Her cheek unintentionally brushed against his solid, broad chest.

He suddenly drew in a sharp breath.

She froze for a moment, then hurriedly stepped back and looked up at him with panic. “Did I hurt you? Did I touch your wound?”

He took a deep breath, then raised a hand with long, defined fingers and cupped her cheek, letting his thumb press gently against her soft lips.

His gaze grew darker, and his voice turned husky as he said, “Qin Fengwen, are you trying to make this Marquis take you right here?”

She stared dazedly at that outrageously handsome face, feeling the pull of his breath and the heat of his presence. Her mind went blank for a moment, and before she could stop herself, she asked, “Then… do you want to?”

Princess Xinyang’s words fell, and the entire room fell silent for a full three seconds.

Xiao Ji became quiet because he absolutely had not expected Qin Fengwen to say something like that; Qin Fengwen was a pure white rabbit who would run away the moment someone poked her, and since he had long gotten used to teasing Qin Fengwen, it was the first time he had ever seen her act so far outside her usual pattern.

As the heat surged upward in his body, he was also a little dazed.

Princess Xinyang became quiet because she had not expected herself to say something like that either; the moment she finished speaking she regretted it, thinking to herself what on earth she had just said.

Had she been possessed?

Or had she simply spent too long with this man, becoming tainted by his presence?

At this moment she finally understood what it meant to feel embarrassed.

Seeing her embarrassment, Xiao Ji instead became calm; otherwise, since spoken words were like water that had already been spilled, the matter would not settle unless they fought for three hundred rounds tonight; but if it truly came to that, setting aside whether his seriously injured body would even survive to see tomorrow’s sunrise, she might very well be frightened to death.

“Would you give yourself to me just because this Marquis wants you? Qin Fengwen, when did you become so obedient?”

He might not be able to do anything with his body, but he could still take advantage verbally.

Before Princess Xinyang could speak, he continued, “But how could such a cheap thing exist in this world? You think that just because I want you, you have to give yourself to me? This Marquis refuses.”

As if you even could!

In a state like his, which part of his body could do anything?

Princess Xinyang also understood that he was shamelessly taking verbal advantage because he knew she was thin-skinned. She truly was thinking of just pushing him down and telling him to stop talking nonsense, and that if he were a man, he should show it.

But upon second thought, that was something she truly could not bring herself to do.

She was angry at herself and at him, her expression darkening as she lifted her gaze to glare at him, then abruptly tightened the belt in her hands.

Caught completely off guard, Xiao Ji was suddenly cinched tightly, and he sucked in a cold breath; this time, it truly hurt.

Outside, the woman in red who had waited for a long time without seeing Xiao Ji come out finally spoke, “My Lord, is there something wrong with the clothing? Do you need us to go in and attend to you?”

“My Lord.” Hearing this form of address made Princess Xinyang’s expression turn even darker.

Xiao Ji cast her a playful glance, sounding rather pleased with himself as he said, “Qin Fengwen, you are jealous of this as well? In the Dongyi Tribe, the term ‘my Lord’ is simply a form of address for married gentlemen, and it contains no ambiguous meaning.”

“My Lord, I am coming in.” the woman in red said.

Princess Xinyang quickly collected her expression and silently stepped aside.

Xiao Ji put on his veil and turned around, positioning himself just right to block her behind him, and very subtly used the wide sleeve to hook her finger with his own.

Princess Xinyang felt her fingertip tingle as if struck by lightning, sending a sudden wave of numbness through her.

She immediately retracted her finger behind her back.

Beneath the veil, the corner of Xiao Ji’s lips curled.

PLEASE CHECK OUT OUR NEW PROJECT:

Description:

In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.

When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.

The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.

From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.

***

Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.

After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"

Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"

Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”

Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
