Also, many thanks to everyone who bought me coffee (*≧∀≦*)

The woman in red frowned slightly as she entered the room; she sensed a strange atmosphere, though she could not pinpoint the exact reason, only feeling as though she herself was somewhat… unnecessary here.

She shook her head, set aside the stray thoughts, and examined Xiao Ji’s wedding attire.

The Holy Maiden’s husband also wore red for the wedding, though the material and style were slightly different; instead of using premium brocade, the attire was made of red silk and shark gauze.

This placed greater emphasis on a man’s figure, because with the slightest mistake, he would appear short, fat, and bulky.

Xiao Ji had absolutely no such concerns; his figure was tall, long-limbed, strong and lean, with broad shoulders, a narrow waist, and long legs.

With a figure like his, even wearing a burlap sack would look good.

The woman in red was quite dazzled as well; if it were not for the rules set before her, she would have wanted to lift the gentleman’s veil herself just to take a peek at his appearance.

“How much longer do you plan to stare?” Xiao Ji asked impatiently.

The woman in red snapped back to herself, lowering her head with embarrassment as she said, “The seamstress originally made a mistake with the gentleman’s measurements, making it two inches too large, but unexpectedly, it fits just now. Allow me to help the gentleman take off the wedding attire.”

Xiao Ji replied bluntly, “You are going to touch my body, does your Holy Maiden know about that?”

The woman in red fell silent.

Serving you is our duty, but after hearing you say it like that, I suddenly feel a little scared.

Xiao Ji said calmly, “Leave. Someone from my side will bring the attire to you later.”

The woman in red responded with acknowledgment and turned to leave.

She silently muttered to herself, thinking that although the gentleman had a lowly background and she had originally not taken him seriously at all, his presence was overwhelmingly strong.

After taking back the wedding attire, she carried it and went to the Holy Maiden’s inner hall.

The Holy Maiden prayed and meditated every day for the sake of the Dongyi Tribe, and today was no exception.

The woman in red did not dare disturb her and waited an entire hour before the Holy Maiden finally emerged from the Hall of Blessings.

The pure and immaculate Holy Maiden wore a white gown, her waist slender, her face covered with a white veil, revealing only a pair of proud and frosty eyes.

The woman in red bowed and said, “Holy Maiden.”

The Holy Maiden gave her a light sideways glance and asked, “Hongluan, is there something you came here to wait for me about?”

Hongluan replied, “The gentleman has already tried on the wedding attire, and the size fits.”

“That is good.” the Holy Maiden said, her mood unchanged.

The Holy Maiden’s marriage was, in truth, nothing more than part of her duty; she was to produce a suitable heir for the Holy Maiden Hall, and nothing more.

Seeing that Hongluan did not leave, she asked, “Why are you still here?”

“Well…” Hongluan hesitated but ultimately decided to speak honestly. “Holy Maiden, I know you did not wish for this marriage, and that if you do not marry soon, you may become the King’s woman instead. But I believe you may truly have chosen well this time, because the gentleman… is very good.”

“Is that so?” The Holy Maiden walked over to her dressing table without any expression, glancing briefly at the phoenix coronet and scarlet gown laid upon the nearby stool.

Hongluan stepped closer and said, “Holy Maiden, you will come to like the gentleman.”

“You rarely praise men.” the Holy Maiden said.

Hongluan responded truthfully, “Because the gentleman… is worthy of such praise.”

The Holy Maiden looked back at her. “I am rather curious about what he actually looks like, to make you praise him this way. Very well, bring him to see me.”

“Yes!”

Half a quarter of an hour later, Hongluan appeared outside Xiao Ji’s door.

Xiao Ji had bolted the door, so she could not enter, and she gave her report from outside.

Princess Xinyang’s brows knitted as she whispered, “It is already so late, why would the Holy Maiden summon you now? Could she have discovered something?”

Xiao Ji thought carefully and did not believe he had revealed any flaw. If there was anything suspicious, it would only be the lingering scent of wound medicine and blood from his injuries.

But the Holy Maiden Hall was filled with incense strong enough to completely cover his scent.

Xiao Ji said carelessly, “It is nothing. I will go meet her first, and while I am at it, I will also look for Xiao Ming’s antidote.”

The poison in Xiao Ming’s system came from the Holy Maiden Hall.

“Be careful.” Princess Xinyang reminded him.

Seeing how worried she looked, Xiao Ji felt a sudden desire to tease her again. “Qin Fengwen, are you worried about my safety, or are you worried I might spend the night in another woman’s room?”

Princess Xinyang said nothing.

Xiao Ji raised his brows and braced himself on the table as he stood. “Ah, right, it does not matter to you anyway.”

He finished speaking and deliberately made a show of heading toward the door, even shaking his head and sighing as he walked.

Princess Xinyang knew perfectly well that he was doing it on purpose, yet she still could not stop herself from reaching out and grabbing his sleeve.

Xiao Ji tilted his head slightly and looked at her with a puzzled expression.

Her gaze trembled faintly, and she did not look at him; instead, she stared at the spotless floorboards beneath her and said quietly, “You are not allowed to spend the night in another woman’s room.”

Xiao Ji asked, “Not allowed tonight, or not allowed from now on?”

Princess Xinyang cleared her throat and said with a steady expression, “From now on… you are not allowed.”

Xiao Ji narrowed his eyes slightly.

This request was outrageous; she had been the one who said she would not interfere in his affairs, and now she was the one insisting on restricting him.

To embarrass herself in such a way, she must have felt mortified.

Princess Xinyang originally thought he would seize the chance to demand something like, “Give this Marquis a reason,” or “Qin Fengwen, what right do you think you have to say such a thing?”, but she had guessed entirely wrong.

He turned around, lifted his long, defined fingers, and gently pinched her chin.

Then he lowered his head, and while she was still confused, he fiercely sealed her lips with his.

The sudden kiss stunned her completely; her long lashes trembled helplessly, her heartbeat raced, and she felt his forceful insistence with every breath.

When he finally let her go, her mind was hazy, and her whole face was flushed red.

He looked at her steadily, his gaze completely clear. “Qin Fengwen, monopolizing this Marquis comes with a price, because I might do things to you far more excessive than this. And I do not mean merely with words. Do you understand?”

Princess Xinyang froze on the spot.

Xiao Ji did not immediately force her to give him an answer.

Between them, there had never truly been a moment of mutual willingness in the most intimate sense; on both occasions, she had been drugged, and in such a state she had given herself to him.

It had never been something she willingly chose.

She had despised him and pushed him away again and again.

He had been able to restrain himself from doing anything excessive to her.

Yet now, she had begun to accept him and approach him of her own accord.

He was no saint; was he truly expected to hold himself back every single time and stop at the slightest touch?

Or was she expected to take medicine every single time?

Xiao Ji left to meet the Holy Maiden.

Princess Xinyang sat inside the room, lost in thought.

Description:

In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.

When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.

The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.

From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.

***

Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.

After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"

Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"

Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”

Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
