Chapter 578 578: Go on, touch me

"So, uhh, how do I...what...claim you?" Kai wondered.

"It's simple, all you have to do is absorb me into your being, then we will be one, and you will finally have the power you were supposed to be born with."

"That sounds too good to be true. I'm sure there's some trial that goes along with this or something. There always is. I'm gonna be thrown into some mental realm that's going to test whether I'm worthy to wield my powers, aren't I?"

"No, you dumb fuck! You are fucking dead right now! You need to regain your powers so you don't get erased from existence."

Kai did remember being stabbed in the chest by Aion's hand and watching his heart get ripped out. Because of that, he decided to play along and hope there was no trial to test his might or something like that.

"Okay, I'm trusting you."

"I'm literally you!"

"Pfft, please, I wouldn't even trust myself. I'm too much of a troll." Kai walked over to the start and closed his eyes. He imagined himself absorbing the star to obtain his original abilities, but nothing happened.

"The fuck? Nothing happened."

"You have to place your hand on me. So go on, touch me."

"Don't say it like that." Kai placed his hand on the star.

"That's it. Now, lower."

"Ohhh no, I know what you're trying to do."

"Dammit." The star started to glow, then the glow transferred to Kai's body, and they both started radiating like a...star.

"Oh! Oh shit!" A flood of energy was slamming into Kai's body, rebuilding him from the ground up and connecting him to the universe.

"OOOOOOHHHH SHITTTTTTTTTT!"

"What's the matter, father? Sad that your favorite child is no longer with us? Well, what did you expect anyway? I've been alive for billions of years! This little shit, who hasn't even lived for a century, was never a threat to me!"

Leo didn't respond to Aion's egging him on, which only made Aion angry.

"Look here!" He grabbed Kai's lifeless body by the throat and held him up as if he were displaying him.

"How will you feel if I dismember him even more than he is? Will that make you crawl out of that little room you're in? Or maybe I should pay a visit to Divinity City and wipe out all of those who claim to be a deity in my presence?!"

"Could you, like, remove your hand please?" Kai asked politely.

At first, Aion didn't register what he had heard as he was used to hearing Kai's voice. He gave his little brother a look, then peered back into the void, only to look back at Kai with his eyes so wide that they nearly fell out of his face.

"What the hell?!" Aion let go of Kai and flew back out of instinct. His body didn't even allow him to have a say in the matter.

"Oof, thanks. It was uncomfortable having your hand around my neck. I'm not really into that shit." Kai rubbed his neck, and the handprint around it vanished

"How are you alive?!"

"Dunno. I just am. Pretty cool, huh?"

Aion did not find that cool at all and created another black hole blade.

Kai backed away slightly, putting his hands out in retreat. "Now now, no need to rush to violence!"

"You being alive is a reason to always rush to violence!" Aion didn't move a muscle; instead, space moved around him. His blade was already in Kai's face, nearly cutting off his head, but the moment the blade touched Kai's neck, the black hole blade shattered.

"Ahh, see, this is why you shouldn't rush to violence." Kai's entire demeanor changed, and he released a murderous aura that made it hard for Aion to breathe.

Kai continued. "It leads to situations like this." He grabbed Aion's arm, twisting it until it snapped, then placed his palm against Aion's chest.

At first, nothing happened, but then a large sphere of black energy surrounded both of them, then shrank until it was the size of Kai's palm.

What happened next was a universal explosion that Leo himself had to step in for, so the universe wouldn't collapse.

Aion's body was completely mangled from the explosion. Half of his body was gone, his skin was burned off, his wings disappeared, and his halo was shattered.

"Ohhhh shit! I didn't even mean to do that! My bad, bro!"

"Arghhh!" Aion's body regenerated, and he lunged at Kai.

"I'm going to kill you!"

"You already did." The force of Kai catching Aion's punch in his hand caused the surrounding celestial objects to be vaporized. "And now it's my turn to return the favor." He lunged his hand through Aion's chest.

"BLERGHHHHH!" Blood pooled out of Aion's mouth as Kai's hand clutched his heart. He tried to remove his brother's arm, but the newfound strength of Kai was too much for him to handle.

"H-How?!" He demanded to know

"Heh, the spark. The guy talked to me, gave me a history lesson, claimed to be me, and even rehearsed a speech to make himself sound cool."

"W-What?!"

"Hmmm. You know, it does sound weird without seeing what happened in person."

The feeling of Aion being overpowered by him made Kai want to give him the same beating he got a bit ago. He wanted to see his brother suffer, he wanted to see him beg for mercy, he wanted to show him who was on top, but as he thought about it, Kai realized that he simply didn't care to.

He was tired of all of this. He didn't care to be a successor, he didn't care to be the ruler of the universe, he didn't care about his family's past affairs, and he certainly didn't care about his brother.

All he wanted to do was enjoy the new life he was given, love his family, and add new members to it, maybe even have a son. He was 0 and 60 with that.

"Aion, aren't you tired of this? The back and forth, the constant desire to have what you can't have? Do you not want to simply live a quiet, fulfilling life? I do."

"Nngh! My life will only be fulfilled if I get what rightfully belongs to me!" He stammered

"Yeah, I'm sure. Well, even though I barely know you, and you always tried to kill me, it was nice to see you, brother. I hope in your next life you're a good man....Oh, who am I kidding, you're not going to be reborn."

Kai completely obliterated Aion with an explosion akin to the Big Bang.

"What an anticlimactic death." He stared off into space and saw the souls of his other brothers like a scene in some supernatural movie where the main villain dies, and the people he killed are saying thank you to the protagonist.

"The fuck are you looking at? I'd kill all of you if you were here as well! Get out of my face!" But in reality, Kai was just seeing things.
