Chapter 577 577: The growing spark
Chapter 577 577: The growing spark
Of course, Kai knew that he got lucky when he landed a blow on Aion, but it was the mental battle he started to fight. With Aion being hit, Kai assumed that Aion would start to get sloppy, which would allow him to get in some more blows.
The punch Kai landed carried the power of the progenitor blade, the power that could erase primordials themselves. A ripple of damage ran through Aion's body as the strike connected.
Kai smirked as he saw how Aion's body reacted to the attack, seeing the damage in real time. So, he went in for another attack.
But Aion answered back instantly.
A punch buried into Kai's stomach and launched him across space again, smashing him through another planet.
Like last time, the crust shattered as he drilled straight through its interior and erupted from the far side. The world cracked apart seconds later, its core collapsing before the planet burst into fragments behind him.
Aion appeared above him and, with a downward strike, slammed Kai into a chain of asteroids, each impact exploding into dust.
However, something was different with Kai this time. The adrenaline he felt from before went into overdrive. He got back up instantly and readied himself again.
Aion came again, fists crashing down in a relentless barrage. Each blow struck faster than the last, impacts sending shockwaves across nearby worlds as Kai was battered across space.
But Kai started seeing Aion's punches. It was as if his brother was getting slower.
Aion's next strike grazed his shoulder instead of crushing his skull. And when another blow came, Kai managed to block it this time. The force still made his bones scream, but the sight alone shocked both brothers.
"I-I blocked?!"
"What?!" Aion couldn't believe what he was seeing. There was no way Kai could have been able to react to his attacks...unless.
Aion peeked into Kai's body, and his shock turned to fear.
'The fucking spark! I have to kill him now!' He attacked Kai again.
The movement of Aion's attacks slowed just enough for Kai to see them forming. The currents of energy across space, the pull of gravity from distant stars, the pressure of every approaching strike, all of it suddenly became clearer.
Kai shifted his body to the side, then his fists slammed into Aion's jaw, followed by another punch that landed against Aion's ribs.
A third strike cracked across his chest, each blow carrying the erasing force of the Progenitor Blade. The impacts forced Aion backward through space for the first time since the fight began.
"H-Heh! Hahaha! How do you like that now, motherfucker!" Kai flew after his brother.
His fists moved faster now, hitting Aion with another strike, then another. However, Aion caught the next punch. His grip tightened aound Kai's fists as his body froze, and Aion pulled him closer.
For a moment, the two hovered in the silent darkness. Then Aion's hand drove forward. His arm plunged straight through Kai's chest as he looked at his brother with no emotion whatsoever.
Aion forced his power through Kai's body, making sure to destroy his essence so there was no chance of him coming back. The only obstacle in his way was now gone.
Aion's hand emerged from Kai's back, clutching the space where his heart had been.
Kai's body went still. The light of the Spark flickered weakly inside him. Then everything went silent again as his body drifted lifelessly in the void.
"And just like before, history repeats itself," Aion said as he looked in a certain direction, knowing that Leo was watching him.
Over where Leo was, Cassie was losing her mind. He was on her knees, sobbing after seeing what he eldest son had done to Kai.
"Fix this!" She demanded Leo. "He can't die! I won't allow it!"
"Calm down." Leo tried to reassure her, but the pain was too much.
"Calm down! Don't tell me to calm down when I see my fucking son die in front of me! Let me go! I will kill that bastard myself!" Cassie tried to leave, but Leo forced her to stay.
"It's not over yet." He said, watching Kai's lifeless body drift through space.
The reaction was worse on Kai's family's end. The tears, sobs, and wails were everywhere. The children saw their dad die, and the wives saw their husband lose his life.
"Daddy! Daddy can't be gone!" They all cried.
"Kai," Martha spoke softly, holding their child. "You can't leave us like that. Please, please come back."
All of them huddled together, the warmth of their family stopping them from having a mental breakdown.
Back where Kai was, he didn't feel as if he were dead. In fact, he couldn't feel more alive.
Normally, one would die if one's divine soul was destroyed, but for some reason, Kai was still alive. That reason was the spark.
"What's happening?" He wondered, looking around to see that he wasn't in a familiar space. No, it was familiar; it was the white void Leo always took him to.
"Claim me." A voice spoke
"Huh? Who said that?" He looked around, but there was no one in sight. All that he saw was glowing, pulsating energy that looked as if it were a star. Not a star from space, but a start that people draw.
'Did that star call me? No way, that's stupid. It doesn't even have a mouth.'
"You fucker! I don't need to have a mouth to speak!"
"Okay, now things are getting weird. Who the hell are you? Leo? Leo, what are you doing?"
"Hmm, you can say that I'm Leo, but you can also say that I'm not him. However, I did originate from him, just like you." The star spoke
"Okay, criptic ass bitch, who are you then?" Kai wondered
"I'm you, your conscience."
"My conscience?"
"Yeah, we don't really speak too much these days. People take pills to stop hearing the voices in their heads."
"Ohhh!" Kai finally got it. "I'm going insane."
"What?! Nooo! See, this is why people don't speak to us anymore. It's so heartbreaking."
Kai frowned. "Do you even have a heart?"
"Of course I do, it's yours. Well, maybe not anymore since our big brother ripped that shit out of our body."
Kai frowned as he remembered what had happened to him. After taking a deep breath, he asked who the star was once more, but this time, he was being serious.
"I am who I said I was. I'm you. I originated from Nemean, Leo, but I am fully you. I am the source of your true power, the thing that you needed to absorb to become your true self. I am the spark."
Kai was speechless for a few seconds, then frowned. "You practiced that speech, didn't you?"
"Don't rain on my parade, you son of a bitch!"
