Chapter 1028: News About the Corvayne Family
Chapter 1028: News About the Corvayne Family
"Did Orlan ask Syra and Alicia to go to the eastern region?"
"That’s right, my lord," Nolan replied as he walked out and stopped near a tree.
"Hmm... Is he worried about what’s happening at the border?"
"Something like that. What should I do now? Stay on guard at the Caltheron family mansion or return to your body?" Nolan asked, leaning against the tree.
"Yes, stay there. Watch over the Caltheron family from the shadows. Don’t let anyone with evil intentions toward them succeed in harming them. The situation in the southern region is chaotic. Orlan is my friend, and I don’t want him or his family to get hurt."
"I understand. I’ll carry out your orders."
"Great! Thank you."
"You’re welcome. Your orders are my duty," Nolan replied respectfully.
...
"Who are you talking to?"
Sylvia’s voice came from behind him.
Nolan turned around and smiled.
"It’s nothing. By the way, have you done what I asked?"
Sylvia stopped in front of him and nodded.
"Yes. There are four Sage-level mages and two Celestials guarding the Izanagi Eastern Empire."
"Great!" Nolan nodded in satisfaction and patted her on the shoulder. "Thank you. I’ll remember this favor."
Sylvia blushed as she glanced at the hand that had just patted her shoulder. This was the first time anyone had touched her directly.
No, this should actually be the second time. According to Nolan, they had interacted several times, and they might have had physical contact more than once.
Although she didn’t remember it, that was the reality.
"What are you going to do now?" Sylvia asked, suppressing her emotional turmoil.
"I have to go see Chloe," Nolan replied bluntly.
"Chloe? That woman?"
Sylvia’s expression changed slightly.
"Oh, right. I forgot to tell you."
Nolan tapped his forehead.
"Chloe is my adopted sister. When I traveled back in time, I saved her and sent her to the Falling Star Academy."
"Huh? Is there that kind of relationship between you two?"
Sylvia was stunned.
Nolan gave a slight nod.
"Yes."
Sylvia pursed her lips in annoyance.
"Is that relationship closer than ours?"
She stepped forward and pushed her chest out toward Nolan.
Sensing her jealousy, Nolan laughed softly and patted her head.
"It’s not like that. My relationship with Chloe is different from my relationship with you. You’ve always had a relatively easy life, despite being bullied by people who hated you because you’re an elf. Chloe, on the other hand, wasn’t so lucky. I found her in a demon slave market. She was blind, and her body was very weak at the time. If it weren’t for her determination, she might have died."
Nolan’s expression became nostalgic as he recalled his first encounter with Chloe.
Fortunately, Chloe had a talent for controlling spatial powers. That created a synergy between them and allowed Nolan to save her.
Sylvia puffed out her cheeks. She was annoyed, but she also felt sympathetic. She hadn’t expected her rival to have such a terrible past.
"Still, you shouldn’t get too close to her. Who knows? She might harbor ill intentions toward you. Be careful," she warned.
Nolan rolled his eyes.
Chloe would hurt him?
That was impossible. At the very least, that woman wasn’t stronger than him.
However, to avoid further argument, he simply nodded and ruffled Sylvia’s hair.
...
"Sister Shion, I have important news for you!"
Luna burst into Shion’s office.
Shion, who had been teaching Eliza a few things, was startled.
"What’s going on?"
Luna walked toward her with a cheerful expression.
"Do you remember your request to investigate a family in the northern region?"
Shion tried to recall it before nodding.
"Yes. Is there any news?"
"Mhm! There’s news! The results are right here."
Luna handed her a golden letter.
Shion took it and began reading.
A moment later, her expression turned serious.
"The Viscount Corvayne family?" she murmured.
According to the letter, the Corvaynes were a viscount family located on the southern edge of the northern region.
They were near the border with the southern region, though not particularly close to it.
The head of the family was named Tristan. He had a wife named Elena, who came from the Baron Arendar family, a minor noble family in the western part of the northern region.
They had a son named Castar, who had died under mysterious circumstances about a year ago. The Viscount also had an illegitimate daughter with a prostitute, whose identity was unknown.
Her name was Leona, and she had turned fifteen this year.
After Castar’s death, she became the heir to the Corvayne family. However, Lady Elena seemed to hate her and often mistreated her, whether intentionally or not.
"Hmmm..."
Shion rubbed her chin, lost in thought.
Noticing her troubled expression, Eliza asked, "Is something wrong, Shion?"
Shion snapped out of her thoughts and smiled.
"It’s nothing. I was just thinking about something."
She rubbed her head before turning to Luna.
"Luna, get my communication magic crystal. I’m going to contact the Blue Moon representative in the northern region."
"Okay!"
Luna turned and went to fetch a red crystal orb, then placed it on the table.
Shion lifted Eliza and set her down beside her. She then placed her palm on the surface of the crystal orb.
Buzz!
The orb emitted a bright red light. A moment later, a hologram of a man made of magic appeared in front of the three of them.
The man was startled and quickly stood up.
"Good afternoon, Miss Shion," he greeted her respectfully.
Shion merely nodded in response.
"Am I bothering you, Ethan?" she asked, folding her arms across her chest.
"Of course not, Miss Shion. I’m completely free!" Ethan replied with a broad smile.
"Huh? So you mean you’re not working?"
Ethan: "..."
The corner of his mouth twitched, and his handsome face turned pale.
"All right, I was just joking."
Shion chuckled softly.
"I’d like to ask for your help. But before that, I have a question. How’s Blue Moon doing in the northern region?"
"Everything’s going well, Miss Shion. Since Jakes is gone, Blue Moon has been growing rapidly, especially Silver Dragon Bank. We’re getting clients from both low- and high-ranking nobles."
Shion nodded in satisfaction at his report.
"Good work. You and the others will get a bonus this month."
Ethan’s face lit up at that.
"All right, I’ll get straight to the point," Shion said nonchalantly. "I need your help with something. Go to the Viscount Corvayne family and bring a girl named Leona with you. Let me know once it’s done. Understood?"
"I understand!" Ethan replied earnestly before adding, "By the way, the Corvayne family is one of the noble families that took out a loan from the Silver Dragon Bank yesterday. I actually have some information about them."
"Good. I’ll be waiting for the results."
After saying that, Shion ended the connection.
She then leaned back, allowing her stiff back to relax as a faint smile spread across her face.
"One important job is done," she whispered playfully. "I wonder what kind of reward the master will give me. I hope he’ll grant me whatever I ask for. Including that one. Mhm..."
A soft moan escaped her lips.
Eliza and Luna exchanged shy, awkward glances.
"What on earth is she thinking?" they thought simultaneously.
