Chapter 546: Painful Jealousy
Chapter 546: Painful Jealousy
"So, why did you call me here, Nolan?"
Sitting on the sofa and breathing slightly heavily, Evalyn asked in a cold tone.
Nolan sat beside her, smiling casually. He took a sip of the black tea in his hand and replied lightly, "I invited you here to ask you to go to the eastern continent with me."
"The eastern continent?" Evalyn froze. "Why didn’t you tell me first? The eastern continent is very far away, you know. Where exactly are we going?"
"The Eastern Empire of Izanagi," Nolan explained.
"The Eastern Empire of Izanagi, huh?" Evalyn’s eyes narrowed slightly. "What’s going on? Why do you suddenly want to go there? This isn’t like you."
She had been friends with Nolan since childhood. Knowing how lazy he was, it was hard to believe he would accept an invitation from the far-off Eastern Empire of Izanagi.
Nolan didn’t answer. He glanced at Elina, who was sitting across from him.
Understanding his meaning, Elina quickly explained, "Sister Evalyn, actually, I’m the one who received the invitation, not Brother Nolan. But because I’m very busy and can’t leave the town of Virella, I had to send a representative, and that person is my brother."
"So that’s how it is..." Evalyn nodded in understanding. "I get it now. I thought Nolan was invited by the Eastern Empire of Izanagi, but it turns out it was you. Well, from the beginning, that thought was a bit illogical. How could someone as lazy as Nolan be invited by them?"
The smile on Nolan’s face froze, and blue veins bulged on his forehead.
"Hey... hey... hey, what do you mean by that?" Nolan asked in dissatisfaction, folding his arms across his chest. "Are you saying I’m incompetent?"
Evalyn blinked innocently. "I didn’t say that. You admitted it yourself."
Nolan: "..."
If he didn’t need this gorilla woman’s help, he would have already pinched her lips shut.
He took another sip of tea, steadying himself, then said in a stern tone, "More or less. I need a companion for my upcoming journey. Can you help me?"
Actually, he could have gone alone. On this continent, no one could threaten him. However, going alone would be very boring.
Previously, when heading to the northern continent, he had been accompanied by Sharon, Cassiopeia, and Draco, so there had always been someone to talk to.
Going alone was clearly not an option.
"Hmmm..." Evalyn rubbed her chin as if considering his words. "How should I put it... I actually want to accept, but... ugh... it feels difficult to leave suddenly without telling my father."
She covered her face with her right palm, as if she were truly struggling.
However, Nolan could see her eyes peeking through the gaps between her fingers.
Nolan rolled his eyes and said calmly, "Don’t worry. I’ll tell your father about it. You can be sure he’ll let you go."
"Oh?" Evalyn feigned surprise. "How can you be so sure?"
"Leave it to me. I have my ways," Nolan replied casually.
"Then I trust you. But... well, you know, nothing in this world is free, right? I remember you saying that when we were six years old," she said, shifting uncomfortably.
From time to time, her gaze flicked toward Nolan with a playful glint.
Nolan: "..."
This time, he really wanted to hit this stinky woman. He didn’t understand how Evalyn could be so dramatic when she could just say what she wanted.
Even so, he held back. After all, he needed Evalyn.
"Just say what you want. But remember—your request has to be something I can grant. Otherwise, I’d rather leave with Rafine," Nolan snorted.
Rafine, who was sitting beside Elina, was startled by his words. She looked nervous—and also... excited.
Evalyn frowned when she heard that. She poked Nolan’s waist with her index finger and scolded, "You called me here, but you’re planning to take another woman? Nolan, you’re such a shameless man!"
Her voice carried jealousy she couldn’t hide.
If her admirers in the capital saw this, they would surely be shocked.
Evalyn was known as a firm and cold woman, always appearing strong in front of others.
There was no way she would show her weak side to anyone. Of course, Nolan was the exception.
After all, they had grown up together and knew each other inside out.
"Alright, I was just joking." Nolan chuckled and gently stroked her head. "But you shouldn’t be so dramatic either. If you want something, just tell me directly. That’s not like you, you know?"
Feeling his hand on her head, Evalyn felt deeply embarrassed. In the past, Nolan often did the same thing.
Back then, Evalyn had been a crybaby. Every time she cried, Nolan would stroke her head to calm her down.
It had been a long time since Nolan had treated her like this. Instead of getting angry, she smiled, as if the longing she had been suppressing had burst out at that very moment.
Watching this interaction, Rafine felt her heart tighten. Her breathing quickened, but she forced herself to suppress it.
"What’s wrong with you, Rafine? Are you sick?" Elina’s worried voice came from beside her.
Rafine put on her usual calm, indifferent expression.
"It’s nothing. By the way, I’m going to the toilet."
After saying that, she stood up and left the living room.
"This..." Elina opened her mouth as if to say something, but in the end, the words stuck in her throat.
She glanced at the interaction between her brother and Evalyn and immediately understood the reason for Rafine’s behavior.
’Hah... this is really difficult,’ she whispered.
"Hmm? Where’s Rafine?" Nolan asked in surprise when he didn’t see her beside Elina.
Elina took a sip of tea and replied calmly, "She went to the toilet."
"Toilet?" Nolan’s eyebrows lifted slightly. His gaze followed the direction Rafine had gone, carrying an unspoken meaning.
"What I want is a date with you in the Eastern Empire of Izanagi, Nolan. What do you think?" Evalyn’s excited voice snapped him out of his thoughts.
"A date?" Nolan was a little surprised. "That’s all?"
At first, he thought Evalyn would ask for something strange.
Who would have thought it would be just a date?
"Yes, that’s all I want." Evalyn nodded, a satisfied smile on her lips. Then, as if realizing something, she pursed her lips and said irritably, "Don’t tell me you thought I wanted money. If so, Nolan Lorian, you’re really evil!"
She pinched Nolan’s waist, making him wince in pain.
"Ouch!" Nolan grabbed her hand at once. "You crazy woman! Why do you always pinch me when you’re angry? Are you a crab?"
Evalyn’s face froze. "A crab? What’s that?"
Only then did Nolan realize that crabs were unknown in this world—or at least, called by a different name.
"Ahem! Never mind."
Evalyn narrowed her eyes suspiciously. "You’re lying. Now tell me—what is a crab?"
Nolan avoided her gaze and pretended to whistle.
"I don’t know."
"You—" Evalyn ground her teeth and lunged at Nolan. "I’ll make you tell me!"
"You crazy woman! Argh! Get away from me!"
Just like that, the two childhood friends who had once been inseparable fell back into their usual bickering.
Elina could only sigh softly and rub her temples.
"You two really are like children..."
