Chapter 553: Two Mysterious Rats
Chapter 553: Two Mysterious Rats
"Nolan, come out. I have something to tell you."
The sound of knocking, accompanied by Evalyn’s voice, came from behind the door.
Nolan, who had been fast asleep, woke up and grumbled in annoyance.
"This woman is really annoying."
He had been enjoying a dream of meeting the people he loved. But the knocking woke him up, and the dream vanished.
Despite his annoyance, he didn’t dare complain. Otherwise, the woman would beat him up.
He got up, walked to the door, and opened it.
Standing in front of him was Evalyn, her face looking a little pale and frightened.
"What’s wrong? Why do you look like that?" Nolan asked hesitantly.
Evalyn swallowed hard, then stepped inside without saying anything.
Nolan grew even more confused. Still, he held back his curiosity and closed the bedroom door.
Evalyn walked toward Nolan’s bed and breathed a sigh of relief, as if she had escaped something terrible.
Nolan went to the other side of the room and poured her a glass of water.
When he handed it to her, Evalyn gulped it down in one go.
"Hah... hah... hah..." Evalyn panted, wiping away sweat that wasn’t actually there. "Thank goodness I’m safe. Otherwise, I would’ve died on the spot."
Her words only deepened Nolan’s curiosity. He sat down beside her, gently rubbing her right palm, and asked, "What really happened? Why were you so scared? Could it be bad guys? No, that doesn’t make sense. They’d be the ones scared if they saw you."
Nolan rubbed his chin as he looked her up and down.
The corners of Evalyn’s mouth twitched, and the urge to hit Nolan surged within her.
However, she restrained herself and let out a deep breath.
"There are no bad guys or anything like that, but..." She bit her lower lip shyly. "There’s a... rat."
When she said the word "rat," her face turned as red as a tomato.
Nolan: "..."
’A rat? Wasn’t that a bit too ridiculous?’
The words almost slipped out, but he held them back and chuckled softly.
"I didn’t think you were still afraid of rats, Evalyn. I thought you had changed, but apparently not." Nolan put on a helpless expression, his tone slightly mocking.
Evalyn grew even more annoyed by his teasing. With a dissatisfied look, she said, "I know it sounds ridiculous. But you should know how afraid I am of rats, especially after what happened in the past."
She pursed her lips in frustration.
Nolan fell silent, memories of one of those past events flashing vividly through his mind.

"Woaa! I’m scared! Nolan, help me! Woaa!"
Hanging from one of the thick branches of a tree two or three meters high, Evalyn cried uncontrollably.
Her gaze was fixed downward, where three large rats—each about ten centimeters long—were staring at her hungrily.
The hair on the back of her neck stood on end, while tears streamed from the corners of her eyes.
"Woaa! Nolan, hurry up and save me! They’re going to bite me!"
"Tsk! You’re so noisy, Evalyn. You’re such a coward, despite being Uncle Luke’s daughter."
The lazy voice came from nearby, and Evalyn’s eyes immediately brightened.
She spotted a five-year-old boy walking toward her, casually scratching his ears.
"Nolan! You finally came!" Evalyn exclaimed with relief. "Quick, save me! Those rats are going to bite me!"
She pointed at the three large rats right beneath the tree.
Nolan glanced at them and found that they did look a little scary.
’That’s strange. How can rats be that big?’ He scratched his head in confusion.
Criip!
The three rats bared their sharp teeth and lunged at Nolan.
"Watch out!" Evalyn panicked and was about to jump down when Nolan suddenly punched all three of them.
In an instant, the bodies of the rats were crushed, their flesh scattering in all directions, splattering even onto Nolan’s clothes.
"Huweek!" Nolan almost vomited as the disgusting stench clung to his body.
"Wait a minute. I need to change my clothes."
Without waiting for a response, he turned and ran off, leaving Evalyn still hanging in the tree, staring after him in confusion.

"Ouch!"
Nolan groaned as a sharp pinch struck his waist.
He quickly stepped aside and glared at Evalyn.
"What’s your problem? Why did you pinch me?" he snapped, rubbing the sore spot.
Evalyn pouted in annoyance. "It’s because you laughed at me."
She turned her face away, still sulking.
Nolan shook his head helplessly.
"Alright, I’m sorry. Let me check your room. Give me the key."
Evalyn reached into her pocket and handed it to him.
Nolan took it and walked out. If this problem wasn’t resolved, his sleep would be ruined by that annoying woman.
He stepped into Evalyn’s room and surveyed the interior. It was almost identical to his own.
The only difference was the makeup items neatly arranged on the dressing table.
Despite being somewhat of a tomboy, Evalyn was still a woman who cared about her appearance.
Nolan looked around, then his gaze settled on the wardrobe.
"There really are rats... and more than one?"
Nolan’s expression turned serious. If it were just one rat, he might have dismissed it as normal.
But two rats were too much. He had paid a hefty price to board this ship.
Although eighty thousand Sharn was pocket change to him, he was still irritated by such poor hygiene.
Even so, he didn’t rush to report it to the ship’s attendants.
Taking a shallow breath, he opened his right palm. A silver portal suddenly appeared before him.
Buzz!
The two rats hiding behind the wardrobe were instantly dragged out through the portal.
Nolan suspended them in midair with his power. As he examined the rats, shock flashed across his face.
"These rats are no ordinary animals." His eyes narrowed warily.
Within their bodies, he could see a faint flow of magic—so subtle that it would be nearly impossible for anyone to detect, even a Celestial Mage.
Unfortunately for them, nothing escaped his sight.
He closed his eyes and released the chaotic power within him.
Following the flow of mana controlling the two rats, he traced it outward.
Suddenly, the flow stopped at a room labeled 302.
Nolan sensed a presence inside—no, two people.
The room was saturated with extremely powerful magic, making it impossible for anyone to spy on it.
He opened his eyes again, his face flat and devoid of emotion.
"This is really interesting," he murmured.
He didn’t know who they were or why they were doing this, but he had a bold guess.
Chaos would soon erupt on this ship.
And as for the target of it all... wasn’t it obvious?
It was the First Princess of the Eastern Empire of Izanagi—Kaede Taira.
Nolan glanced at the two rats, then clenched his right fist.
In the next instant, their bodies were torn apart into tiny pieces of flesh.
However, restrained by spatial power, the remains didn’t scatter throughout the room.
Nolan opened another portal and tossed them inside.
After that, he turned and walked out of the room.
