Chapter 554: Dinner on the Ship
Chapter 554: Dinner on the Ship
"M-mm..."
Isabella opened her eyes, greeted by darkness all around her.
She slowly sat up, scanning her surroundings, then let out a small sigh.
"Chocolate... yum... yum... yum..." Eliza’s adorable voice came from beside her.
Isabella turned her head and chuckled softly. She pinched Eliza’s sleeping cheek, then got out of bed and pulled the blanket over her.
She stepped out and turned on the living room light. A middle-aged man sat there, dressed in a green robe.
His eyes were almond-shaped, and his calm aura made him look like an ordinary person.
However, anyone sensitive enough could tell he was far from ordinary—a powerful figure who concealed himself well.
"Why are you here? I was sleeping, and you disturbed me," Isabella said coldly.
The middle-aged man quickly stood and clasped his hands toward her.
"I’m sorry, young lady. I didn’t mean to disturb you, but I have important news," he replied in a trembling voice.
Isabella stared at him for a moment before looking away and walking to the sofa opposite him.
She sat down and crossed her legs.
"What is it? Tell me quickly—I want to go back to sleep," she said.
The middle-aged man let out a sigh of relief and sat down before answering, "There is news from the Master. He says you must return to the eastern continent immediately. Otherwise, your brother—"
Before he could finish, Isabella cut him off.
"I don’t care. If he wants to take it, let him. I’m satisfied with my position. Go back and tell him I won’t be returning anytime soon. My husband will start suspecting me."
Without waiting for his response, Isabella stood and walked back to her room, leaving the middle-aged man behind, utterly confused.
...
"Wow! There’s so much food for dinner."
Inside the ship’s restaurant, Evalyn couldn’t help but be amazed by the sight before her.
The restaurant was quite large—spacious enough to accommodate five hundred people at once.
Tables and chairs for two or three people were neatly arranged, allowing guests to eat while chatting with their companions.
There were four large tables placed at the center, the right, the left, and the front. Each was filled with various dishes, ready to be taken directly.
It was a buffet system, and many guests had already begun serving themselves.
"The system is similar to a palace party, isn’t it?" Evalyn said excitedly.
Nolan chuckled softly. "This way of serving food is much more efficient, especially with more than ten guests. The kitchen staff doesn’t have to prepare dishes one by one."
Evalyn nodded in agreement. "You’re right. You’re quite knowledgeable, Nolan. Where did you learn this?"
She glanced at him playfully.
Nolan rolled his eyes, too lazy to respond to her teasing.
"Let’s eat," Nolan said, pulling her left hand.
They started taking food from the center table, where the main dishes were placed.
Not forgetting, Nolan also took fruits and desserts at the same time so he wouldn’t have to stand up again after finishing the main course.
"Isn’t your food... too much?"
Evalyn sat in her chair, staring in amazement at the many plates of food in front of her.
Nolan sat down and chuckled softly.
"Actually, I’m a little hungry because I didn’t eat anything this afternoon," he said casually.
Evalyn didn’t say anything more. Men’s portions were indeed much larger than women’s. She could see that clearly from her father, so she had no intention of mocking Nolan.
The two of them began their dinner. Soft music from the musicians at the edge of the restaurant made the atmosphere feel warm and comfortable.
As Nolan and Evalyn ate while chatting casually, whispers rose from several nearby tables.
"Hey, look at that woman! Who is she?"
"I don’t know, but she really stands out, doesn’t she? She’s wearing a fox mask, and black hair is very rare in the central continent. Could she be from the eastern continent?"
"It seems so. And the guards around her make her status obvious. Could she be a princess from an eastern kingdom?"
Nolan and Evalyn were surprised. They looked up, following the direction of the gazes around them.
Sure enough, a woman wearing a fox mask had entered the restaurant. Three guards in iron armor protected her right, left, and rear, while two servants walked ahead, as if clearing a path for her.
The sight immediately drew the attention of everyone in the ship’s restaurant.
Even so, most people quickly averted their eyes.
Those who boarded this ship were wealthy—rich merchants, nobles, and the like—and they knew better than to stare at someone so clearly important.
They valued privacy far more than ordinary people. Although the woman’s appearance was surprising, no one bothered to dig deeper.
"Is that Princess Kaede?" Evalyn asked in a low voice.
Nolan nodded slightly as he speared a piece of lamb and put it into his mouth.
"Yes, that’s her. But don’t stare at her for too long. It could cause trouble," Nolan warned seriously.
Earlier, when he and Evalyn had been escorted to their room, Nolan had felt a sharp gaze on his back.
Without turning around, he had known it was Kaede. He didn’t know why the woman had been staring at him like that.
Could it be because of his black hair?
That was the only reasonable explanation. After all, only people from the eastern continent had jet-black hair like his.
Sure enough, not long after Nolan said that, Kaede’s gaze settled directly on him and Evalyn.
Nolan tensed, his heart starting to race.
’Damn... she didn’t recognize me, did she?’
He swallowed hard and lowered his head, trying to avoid her eyes.
Seeing Nolan’s strange behavior, Evalyn raised an eyebrow in suspicion.
"Nolan, what’s wrong with you? Are you—"
Before she could finish, footsteps approached from behind, followed by a woman’s soft voice.
"Am I interrupting your time together?"
Nolan’s spoon froze. He let out a deep sigh and muttered irritably, ’So annoying...’
...
"Has the plan been carried out properly?"
A man dressed in a golden robe asked, his tone calm and indifferent.
Behind him, a man clad in black ninja attire knelt on one knee.
"Yes, Your Highness. The assassins have set their trap and are only waiting for the right moment. Tonight should be the night," he replied respectfully.
The man nodded slightly. "Very good. I will await the good news."
The ninja bowed once more, then rose and vanished from the spot.
The man turned his gaze to the night sky outside, a faint smile on his lips.
"Don’t blame me, Kaede. Your existence threatens my path to becoming the next Eastern Emperor. Your twin sister, Yuuki, fled to another country. That foolish woman is just as disgusting—willing to give up her status as a princess and heir to the throne for a man. How shameful..."
