The Hidden Extra: The Lazy Prince Refuses to Ascend The Throne

Chapter 640: Assassination Plan (1)

Chapter 640: Assassination Plan (1)

"Some people are coming!"

Aldrian panicked and hurriedly took a step back. He even forgot that Seira was right beside him, which showed just how frightened he was.

Seira glanced at him indifferently, then stepped back as well. The footsteps grew closer, and soon, the door in front of them opened.

A servant appeared with a calm expression. Aldrian furrowed his brow as he recognized the man—it was Arkash.

"Arkash? What are you doing here? Where are the others?" he asked, his voice filled with relief.

Arkash was one of the head servants. There were three head servants in total, and Aldrian was quite close to him.

Seeing Aldrian relax, Seira naturally felt calmer as well.

She didn’t know Arkash very well, since she preferred not to interact too much with the servants in this palace.

It wasn’t because she was arrogant, but because she didn’t consider this palace her home.

What was the point of getting close to the servants and guards?

Still, she remembered Arkash. He had been the emcee at the birthday party earlier.

Arkash gave a faint smile and walked toward Aldrian.

"Sorry, Your Highness. I was sent by His Majesty the King to look for you. Luckily, I managed to find you—and Princess Seira as well. By the way, please come with me. Everyone is waiting," he said, though there was a hint of anxiety in his voice.

Aldrian didn’t notice anything strange. He turned to Seira and said excitedly, "Let’s go!"

But Seira didn’t agree right away. She stared at Arkash with a sharp gaze.

Earlier, she had heard many footsteps. It had sounded like more than one person.

So why was Arkash the only one here?

A sense of foreboding crept over her, but she didn’t show it. She simply gave a small nod.

"Let’s go."

She wanted to see what kind of plan Arkash was hiding. It might have been related to the chaos that had just erupted in the hall.

Arkash’s smile widened, but he quickly turned around and walked away.

Aldrian and Seira immediately followed behind him, and soon, the three of them vanished from sight.

...

Nolan and Elsa ran through the palace garden corridor. Since the palace was shrouded in darkness, the back garden looked just as gloomy.

There wasn’t a single light, aside from the moon and stars above.

Servants and guards lay sprawled on both sides of the path, showing that the assassins had planned everything perfectly.

"Nolan, I... I’m so tired! Can we rest for a moment?"

Elsa panted heavily, looking at Nolan with pleading eyes.

The royal palace was enormous, and the front entrance was guarded by the assassins. With no other option, they had to circle around the palace and search for another way out.

Unfortunately, every side of the palace was guarded as well, forcing them to keep running while searching for the best route—one that wasn’t being watched.

"Alright. Let’s rest for a moment by that tree over there."

Nolan pointed toward a tree near the garden. It wasn’t actually inside the garden, but about five meters away.

There were several other trees around it, so they wouldn’t be easily spotted.

Elsa nodded and followed Nolan toward the tree.

They sat down and leaned against the trunk. Nolan wasn’t tired at all. In fact, his face didn’t show even a trace of sweat.

Unlike him, Elsa was drenched, as if she had lost a huge amount of strength just from running.

"Use this."

Nolan pulled a handkerchief from his pocket and handed it to her.

"Thank you," Elsa whispered as she accepted it and wiped the sweat from her forehead and neck.

Even though she was drenched in sweat, there was no unpleasant smell coming from her. Instead, a faint scent of roses lingered around her—fragrant and alluring.

Fortunately, Nolan wasn’t an ordinary man. Otherwise, he would have surely been overwhelmed by the pheromones emanating from Elsa’s body.

To ease the awkwardness, the two began chatting in low voices.

However, just as they were engrossed in conversation, the sound of footsteps approached from the corridor they had passed through earlier.

"Have Prince Aldrian and Princess Seira been captured?"

"Yes. They’re with Arkash now. It’s only a matter of time before they’re executed. When that happens, everything will end perfectly... hehehe..."

Their words sent a chill down Elsa’s spine. She stared at Nolan in horror and whispered, "Nolan, they..."

Before she could finish, Nolan quickly covered her mouth and whispered sharply, "Don’t speak!"

Sure enough, not long after Elsa made a sound, the two assassins froze and turned toward the garden, their eyes filled with caution.

"Who’s there!?"

Elsa trembled in fear, guilt flashing in her eyes.

Nolan didn’t say a word. He simply kept his hand tightly over Elsa’s mouth.

The assassins had extraordinary hearing. They could pick up even the faintest sound.

Fortunately, Nolan managed to stop Elsa just in time. Otherwise, they would have been discovered.

"What was that? Could it have just been my imagination?" one of them asked hesitantly.

His comrade narrowed his eyes. "I don’t think so. I heard it too. Most likely, they’re young nobles who managed to escape. Let’s check it out."

The man nodded and began walking toward the garden.

The sound of their footsteps grew closer with every second, making Elsa’s heart feel as if it were about to stop.

Overwhelmed by fear, Elsa unconsciously shifted to the side, causing the grass beneath her to rustle.

The two assassins exchanged glances. Without hesitation, they dashed toward the source of the sound.

But when they arrived, they saw nothing—only grass swaying behind a tree.

"Nothing? I’m sure I heard something here," the man said grimly.

His comrade scanned the area, then his gaze landed on a handkerchief lying on the ground.

He picked it up and examined it carefully.

"We weren’t wrong. Someone was here, and they fled the moment we moved. But the question is... how did they manage to escape? We were close, and we moved fast."

The man considered his comrade’s words, yet he still couldn’t come up with a reasonable explanation.

Just as he was about to speak, a fleeting shadow suddenly appeared behind them.

Nolan swung his arm and struck the back of their necks with brutal force.

His movements were so fast that they didn’t even have time to react.

Both assassins immediately passed out and collapsed to the ground.

Nolan exhaled softly, then glanced at Elsa, who had already fainted not far away.

"It seems I’ll have to change my plans. Bringing that woman along would only slow me down," he muttered.

He snapped his fingers, and a mysterious barrier formed around Elsa’s body.

Slowly, her figure faded from view before vanishing completely.

"Now I can move freely," Nolan muttered.

He stared straight ahead, a cold glint flashing in his eyes.

"At first, I intended only to observe. But your actions—trying to involve my sister—have changed my mind. Meliodas Lyren... you must die tonight."
