Chapter 656: The Spirit of the Artifact Reveals Herself
"W-What do you mean? Kill me? Nolan Lorian, have you lost your mind?" Aldrian asked, his voice trembling.
"Do I look like I’m joking?" Nolan pointed at his own face.
Aldrian was left speechless. Nolan didn’t look like he was joking at all. That meant he was serious.
"Hurry up and tell me. Otherwise..."
Nolan grinned, then pulled out a dagger that seemed to appear out of nowhere, twirling it casually.
Aldrian’s eyes widened as an overwhelming sense of fear washed over him.
He knew Nolan wasn’t messing around this time.
Gritting his teeth, Aldrian shouted, "Hurry up and come out and save me, Void Reaver Disc!"
"Tsk... You’re truly pathetic, Aldrian. I don’t know whether choosing you was a mistake."
A voice as soft as silk echoed from all directions. Suddenly, a ray of black light burst from Aldrian’s forehead.
The light hovered in front of him before transforming into a disc with a handle at its center.
Its rim was extremely sharp, slightly serrated. If it struck someone’s neck, they would surely die on the spot.
The next moment, a woman in avatar form materialized from the disc.
Her face was as beautiful as the full moon. Her black hair was styled half-up and half-down, with several braided strands that suited her perfectly.
A small mole beneath her right eye made her look captivating with just a single blink.
Her gorgeous figure was draped in a sheer gown resembling a cheongsam from an Eastern country in Nolan’s former world.
The woman stared at Nolan with a cold gaze and said, "Don’t kill him. Instead, I’ll give you anything you want, including strength and power."
Upon hearing her words, Aldrian felt both annoyed and dissatisfied.
"What are you doing!? Why are you offering him power instead!? Kill him now!" he shouted angrily.
Nolan was about to kill him, yet this woman offered a reward just to stop him.
To Aldrian, it felt like an insult.
However, the woman didn’t respond. She simply stared calmly at Nolan, as if waiting for his answer.
"What’s your reason for making that offer?" Nolan asked.
He twirled his dagger and looked at her with a playful expression.
"Could it be that you like me?" he teased.
The woman fell silent. Suppressing her frustration, she replied honestly, "No. It’s nothing like that. I just find you intriguing, Nolan Lorian. Inside you... I sense something special."
Her words weren’t nonsense. Nolan’s body seemed shrouded in a black mist that even she couldn’t see through.
That alone convinced her Nolan wasn’t an ordinary prince. He had to be hiding something extraordinary.
To avoid the worst-case scenario, she had no intention of acting recklessly toward someone she didn’t fully understand.
"You’re quite clever," Nolan said, clapping his hands. "What’s your name? Are you the artifact spirit of the Void Reaver Disc?"
The woman narrowed her eyes. It felt as if Nolan were staring straight into her soul.
Still, she pushed aside the uncomfortable feeling and replied calmly, "My name is Obsidia. And yes, I am the artifact spirit of the Void Reaver Disc."
Nolan gave a small nod and crossed his arms.
"Your offer is tempting, Obsidia. Unfortunately, I can’t accept it."
He glanced at Aldrian with indifference. "This man must die."
The killing intent behind his words was suffocating. Aldrian felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand on end, and his breath caught in his throat.
Obsidia frowned. "Must it really come to this? Isn’t there a saying that friendship is better than enmity? Think carefully."
A hidden threat lingered behind her calm tone, but Nolan didn’t seem afraid at all.
"That proverb is true. But Aldrian has angered me again and again. So yeah, he has to die."
Obsidia was impressed by his stubbornness, yet she still tried to persuade him.
"Is this about your older sister? Fine. I’ll make him give up. There will be no engagement between him and your sister. I can guarantee it."
Aldrian’s eyes widened in shock as he shouted, "What do you mean!? Seira and I are engaged!"
"Shut up!" Obsidia snapped angrily. "If you weren’t so obsessed with her, would things have turned out like this?"
She truly regretted choosing Aldrian as her heir, but there was nothing she could do.
Only by staying with Aldrian could she one day return to her former peak.
After all, Aldrian possessed the purest bloodline of the Lyren family.
Otherwise, she would have chosen Meliodas or Karakh instead.
Nolan let out a small sigh and refused. "I’m sorry, but I still can’t."
He narrowed his eyes slightly. "Most of it does have to do with my sister, but that isn’t the main reason."
He looked at Aldrian calmly and smirked.
"This concerns the stability of the Ancient Kingdom of Eron. So I can’t accept your terms."
With lightning speed, he thrust his dagger straight toward Aldrian’s heart.
Obsidia froze for a split second. Then overwhelming rage erupted within her.
She raised her fist and swung it at Nolan.
"Die!"
Just as her punch was about to connect, an invisible barrier appeared and blocked it.
The shockwave from the impact sent the furniture flying across the room.
Fortunately, Nolan had already placed a barrier around the bed where his sister lay unconscious. Otherwise, she would have slammed into the wall and been seriously injured.
"What!?" Obsidia froze in shock.
A strike powerful enough to shatter a city wall had been stopped with ease.
’Just as I thought... this man is dangerous!’
Every instinct screamed at her to flee immediately.
But where could she run?
Her body and soul were bound to Aldrian. If Aldrian died, she would die too.
’There’s no other choice. I have to do this!’
The woman’s eyes gleamed with bright black light. At the same time, the Void Reaver Disc spun rapidly and shot toward Nolan.
Seeing this, Nolan simply smiled and punched it.
Boom!
The blow sent the disc flying. It slammed into the wall, shattering it on impact.
"It hurts! It hurts! Let go! Argh!"
Aldrian screamed and writhed in agony. His eyes turned bloodshot, and saliva dripped from the corner of his mouth.
The dagger had pierced straight through his heart, yet he wasn’t dead. Instead, unbearable pain surged through his entire body, as if his skin were being peeled off alive.
Nolan grinned cruelly. "It hurts, doesn’t it? Hehehe... This is your payback for what you tried to do to my sister. How dare you lay a hand on my family? None of you will ever live in peace—not even in death!"
Nolan was usually indifferent to the world around him.
But if anyone dared to harm the people he cared about, they’d better be prepared to face the consequences.
"Ugh..." Aldrian coughed up blood and tried to pull the dagger from his chest, but he couldn’t.
Nolan’s strike was too strong. He had no strength left to resist.
’Am I going to die?’
Despair filled his eyes.
But suddenly...
"How dare you, Nolan Lorian!"
