Chapter 679: Pursuit! (4)
"Go after them!" Erkan roared, pointing toward Nolan and Seira as they grew farther away.
"Yes, General!" the soldiers replied in unison, then spurred their horses forward.
Ten thousand men charged at once, creating a truly terrifying sight.
Nolan and Seira glanced back from time to time and saw the army rapidly closing in.
"Nolan, they’re getting closer!" Seira cried in panic.
At this rate, they would be caught sooner or later.
"Hahaha!" Nolan burst out laughing. "Relax, Sister. As long as I’m here, you’ll be safe!"
After that, Nolan raised his left hand and shouted, "Sunfire!"
Buzz!
A red fireball appeared in the sky, blazing with intense light.
The dark night instantly turned as bright as day. The soldiers behind them hurriedly covered their eyes, and their formation fell into chaos.
Thousand Faces furrowed his brow and clenched his right fist.
In the blink of an eye, the fireball vanished, and the surroundings returned to calm. But Nolan and Seira were already gone.
"Damn it!" Erkan gritted his teeth, yanking on the reins as he bellowed, "Don’t let them escape!"
...
"Is it still far?" Elina asked in a heavy voice.
"Just a little farther. Maybe about four kilometers from your position," Malverna replied. But suddenly, she jolted in surprise, and Elina noticed at once.
"What’s happening?" Elina asked anxiously. "Did something happen to my brother?"
Malverna fell silent for a moment before answering cautiously, "Your brother isn’t alone. He’s being chased by thousands of people! Most likely, they’re soldiers from the Ancient Kingdom of Eron!"
Elina’s eyes widened at the news. Her heart pounded wildly, and her breathing turned ragged.
"B-Brother Nolan is in danger!? Is he okay?"
Her panic made her grip on the reins slip, causing her horse to stumble.
Fortunately, Elina regained her balance the very next second.
"He’s fine. But the pursuers are closing in on them. Hurry and help him as soon as possible," Malverna said grimly.
Elina didn’t dare waste a second. Without hesitation, she kicked her horse’s sides, forcing it to run faster.
Seeing Elina pick up speed, the eight thousand soldiers behind her immediately did the same.
...
Boom!
Boom!
Hundreds of fireballs streaked down from the sky, raining toward the horse carrying Nolan and Seira.
But the horse was astonishing. It dodged every attack with incredible precision.
Of course, Nolan played a part in it. He channeled his magical power into the horse’s body, sharpening its reflexes to three times their normal level.
"Sister, hold on tighter!" Nolan warned firmly.
Seira nodded and tightened her grip around his waist.
Boom!
The barrage from above grew fiercer and more brutal. No matter how fast the horse was, it was bound to get hit by one of the hundreds of fireballs raining down.
Sure enough, a fireball came straight down toward them.
However, Nolan was prepared. He snapped his fingers, and the fireball instantly froze in midair before exploding harmlessly.
Thousand Faces narrowed his eyes and murmured, ’That prince far exceeds my expectations.’
The spell he had cast was called Meteor Judgment, a high-level spell he had created himself.
It unleashed hundreds of fireballs from the magic circle, each locking onto its target with deadly precision.
Yet Nolan dodged every single one. He even shattered the fireball that nearly hit him with ease.
His strength was clearly on an entirely different level.
’Could he be a Great Mage... or even a Sage?’ Thousand Faces wondered silently.
But that sounded impossible. Nolan wasn’t even twenty yet. Even the most gifted person in history could only reach the High Mage level at that age.
Thousand Faces pushed the thought aside. No matter what level Nolan was, it was clear that today, he and his sister would be captured.
Once that happened, his mission would be complete, and he could finally live comfortably without lifting a finger.
Boom!
The attacks kept coming. Before they knew it, Nolan and Seira burst out of the dense forest and found themselves in a barren, freezing desert.
"Nolan, this is dangerous! We’re completely exposed now!" Seira exclaimed in panic.
The forest had made it difficult for their attacker to reach them. But here in the desert, there were no trees left to shield them.
"Don’t worry, Sister!" Nolan said confidently. "Whether we’re in the desert or the forest, that person won’t be able to touch us. Trust me!"
Seira stared at his broad, sturdy back in a daze.
For some reason, his words reminded her of an incident long ago, in the forest behind the palace.
Back then, Nolan had been willing to get hurt just to protect her. And now, he carried the same confidence, instantly calming her anxiety.
Not long after Nolan and Seira escaped the forest, Erkan and his army emerged as well.
They stared at the siblings’ backs in the distance, their eyes bloodshot with fury.
"Chase them! We’ll catch them soon, and this mission will be over! Archers, raise your bows and shoot them down!"
Erkan’s roar spurred the soldiers on. The archers immediately raised their bows, nocked their arrows, and released them into the sky.
There were three thousand archers. In an instant, thousands of arrows streaked through the air, aimed straight at Nolan’s and Seira’s backs.
Sensing the danger, Nolan didn’t dare take any chances. He channeled his magical power into the horse, pushing its spirit to the limit.
Its movements became far more agile. It galloped wildly, leaping left and right to dodge the rain of arrows, as well as the fireballs that continued to crash down from above.
But suddenly, about eighty meters ahead, a giant hand burst out from beneath the sand and shot into the air.
The hand was enormous—nearly four meters tall.
Moments later, another hand of equal size emerged, and the sand within hundreds of meters began to tremble violently.
A massive humanoid monster rose from the ground. It stood nearly twenty meters tall, with a terrifying presence.
Its entire body was made of sand. It had no face, and its two arms were unbelievably muscular, as if carved from the body of a trained warrior.
"M-Monster! Nolan! A monster!" Seira stammered, pointing ahead.
Nolan rolled his eyes. He wanted to say, "I know, Sister. I have eyes."
But he held it back, knowing Seira was panicking. After all, she was a princess who rarely left the palace.
Seeing a monster that huge was surely something she had never experienced before.
"Don’t worry. That monster won’t harm us."
The moment Nolan said that, the monster turned toward them.
Even though it had no face, Seira still felt a chilling pressure crawl down her spine.
Then, under her horrified gaze, the monster raised its massive right hand and swung it toward them.
Seira shut her eyes and whispered, ’Are we going to die?’
Suddenly, she felt her body lift into the air. Panicking, she quickly clung tighter to Nolan’s back.
When she opened her eyes, she froze.
The horse had leaped over the giant hand just before it could crush them.
Her vision blurred, and dizziness washed over her. She wanted to scream, but no sound came out.
In the middle of the leap, she saw the moon shining brightly above. It felt so close, as if she could touch it just by reaching out her hand.
"So... beautiful..."
