Chapter 683: War (2)
Chapter 683: War (2)
"Send Aldric to the battlefield?" Ragan was taken aback. "Why would you want that?"
Vanessa seemed to have expected his reaction and simply smiled.
"Aldric is the First Prince, and he used to serve in the military. Shouldn’t he be the one to step forward in a situation like this?"
She walked closer to Ragan and gently placed her hand on his shoulder, her expression full of affection.
"So, I hope he can contribute to this empire. What do you think?"
If someone who didn’t know her heard those words, they would surely be moved.
Vanessa was the queen. Her noble presence alone was enough to captivate ordinary people.
But... was that really the case?
Ragan knew her too well. It was impossible for this woman, who looked so gentle and caring, to truly have such pure intentions.
After all, she was the daughter of the Malvain family, one of the most powerful families in the empire.
Her cunning and calculating nature, along with her refusal to back down, was well known to those who truly understood her.
Even so, as long as she didn’t cross the line, Ragan had no right—neither as emperor nor as husband—to interfere.
"Alright, I understand. Tomorrow, I’ll issue an order for Aldric to go to the northern region. However, I must remind you that Freya is already there, and I’ve appointed her as the chief general in charge of that region. So you must tell Aldric to obey her every command. Understood?"
Vanessa frowned. In truth, it wasn’t her idea to send Aldric to the battlefield—it was Aldrian’s.
He had asked her to speak to Ragan and secure permission so he could join the war in the northern region.
Vanessa understood why her son didn’t dare face Ragan. It was all because of what he had done on New Year’s Eve the previous year, when he had deliberately made things difficult for Nolan and Seira.
As a mother, she couldn’t bear to see Aldric troubled, so she had no choice but to face Ragan and plead, just as she had done.
Fortunately, it worked, and Aldric received permission to go to the northern region.
"Alright, I’ll tell him," Vanessa said gently. "Thank you."
...
Clang!
Clang!
"Argh!"
The sound of clashing metal and painful screams echoed across the battlefield.
The soldiers led by Nolan and Elina were locked in combat with the troops brought by Erkan.
Both sides were strong, and neither had any intention of backing down.
"Hyaa!"
Two soldiers raised their swords and struck at Nolan.
Facing their combined attack, Nolan casually parried.
The two soldiers were knocked backward instantly. Before they could regain their balance, Nolan swung his sword and slashed across their chests.
The heavy armor covering their bodies split apart like tofu, and both men fell from their horses.
Nolan didn’t stop there. He urged his horse forward and charged straight toward the other soldiers.
The battlefield was in chaos. The cold night wind kicked up dust and sand, blurring their vision and making it difficult to see clearly.
Slash!
Slash!
Erkan cut down two soldiers charging from the front, then twisted and slashed another who tried to strike from behind.
"Hahahaha!" he laughed loudly. "Come on! All of you!"
The soldiers from the eastern region hesitated. They could clearly see just how terrifying Erkan was.
Facing just three soldiers felt incredibly easy for him. None of them wanted to throw their lives away for nothing.
"Your opponent is me!"
A cold voice came from behind him.
Erkan froze for a moment. He quickly turned his horse and raised his sword.
Clang!
The clash of steel echoed in every direction.
Erkan looked up and saw Elina hovering in the air, pressing him down with sheer strength.
"Hahaha! You’ve finally arrived, Princess!" he said coldly.
Elina gave him only a faint smile. Without saying a word, she shifted her weight, twisted her body, and kicked the right side of Erkan’s face.
Caught off guard, Erkan was sent flying and fell off his horse.
Elina landed gracefully on the sand. She swung her sword and pointed it straight at him.
"I know you’re much stronger than you pretend to be. Come on!"
"Ugh..." Erkan slowly got to his feet and rubbed the side of his face where she had kicked him.
"Not bad. Your strength is quite impressive," he said playfully, showing no sign of pain or fear.
Elina narrowed her eyes and took a fighting stance.
"In that case, I’ll show you that I’m far stronger than you think!"
Whoosh!
Elina dashed toward him at breakneck speed, then leaped high into the air and swung her sword downward in a powerful vertical strike.
Erkan didn’t dare take it lightly. Elina might be a woman, but her status as a princess placed her far above ordinary fighters.
Without hesitation, he raised his sword to block.
Clang!
Erkan’s knees buckled, forcing him to sink into the sand beneath his feet.
"Ugh..." Erkan gritted his teeth and tried to push himself up, but he couldn’t.
’How is this possible!? Just how strong is this woman?’ he cried inwardly in horror.
But he had no time to dwell on it. Elina released her grip on her sword, grabbed Erkan by the head, and drove her knee into his face.
Thud!
"Argh!" Erkan groaned in pain and fell backward.
Blood dripped from his nostrils, and faint bruises appeared on his forehead and nose.
"Didn’t I tell you not to underestimate me? You’re truly an idiot," she sneered coldly.
She picked up her sword and pointed it at him.
"Ahem!" Erkan coughed and wiped the blood from his nose. His arrogant expression vanished, replaced by rage and hatred.
"Elina Lorian..." he growled. "I’ll kill you!"
He got to his feet and charged at Elina.
Elina wasn’t afraid at all. Instead of retreating, she rushed toward him as well.
Clang!
Their swords collided, and the two glared at each other with burning hatred.
***
Boom!
A massive explosion erupted in the sky. Two figures collided, unleashing powerful magic at each other.
They were evenly matched, making it unclear who would fall first.
However, to a sharp observer, the white-haired figure wearing a mask seemed to be controlling the flow of the battle.
"Is this all you’ve got? How pathetic," Malverna sneered as she waved her right hand.
"You..." Thousand Faces growled. Rage flashed across his strange, terrifying face. "How dare you underestimate me!? Fine, I’ll show you the true meaning of despair!"
He tossed the staff in his right hand into the air, then clapped his palms together.
"Dragonfire Sovereignty!"
Buzz!
The air instantly turned scorching hot, and the dark sky—once calm—suddenly became turbulent.
Black clouds appeared out of nowhere and began to gather, forming a slow, eerie vortex.
Boom!
Thunder cracked again and again, followed by the faint roar of a dragon.
Soon, a red glow flickered within the clouds.
The next moment, a fire dragon tens of meters tall burst out and dove straight toward Malverna.
"Hahaha!" Thousand Faces laughed like a madman. "Tonight will be your death!"
Malverna stared calmly at the fire dragon rushing toward her, then whispered, ’Such weak magic won’t scare me. That man is truly... foolish...’
