Chapter 734: Good News
Chapter 734: Good News
"I have to go out now and check on the situation outside," Rei said as he slowly got out of bed.
Although it was painful and difficult, he was still able to stand by holding onto the side of the bed.
"Are you sure? You should just rest. Someone will tell us about the battle later," Luminus tried to persuade him.
Rei shook his head. "It’s okay. I’m a hero. This kind of pain is nothing to me."
Luminus felt helpless in the face of Rei’s stubbornness, so it decided it was best not to say anything further.
Rei took a deep breath and tried to straighten his body.
It was difficult, but he eventually managed. Then, he walked carefully toward the tent’s exit.
When Rei pulled back the tent flap, he was greeted by a quiet scene.
There was no one there except him, but Rei wasn’t surprised. After all, all the soldiers were on the battlefield.
He turned to the right and walked away. He needed to find Roseline and ask about Evalyn’s condition in the battle.
Since two hours had passed since the fighting began, there should have been news from the front lines by now.
Suddenly, he saw a soldier running on his left.
Rei’s eyes lit up, and he called out, "Hey! Stop!"
The panicked soldier froze for a moment. He turned and saw Rei waving at him.
"Hero of Light?" His eyes widened in surprise. He immediately ran toward Rei and stopped a meter away.
Lowering his head slightly, he said, "Good afternoon, Hero of Light."
Rei smiled and gave a small nod. "Afternoon. Hey, can I ask you something? How are things going on the battlefield? Is Evalyn alright?"
He had already come to see the woman as his descendant, so he didn’t want anything bad to happen to her.
Moreover, according to Nolan’s account, Evalyn was the only one among his descendants who had been able to wield the Divine Sword of Luminus since Rei’s era.
One could only imagine how brilliant and valuable Evalyn would become in the future.
"That..." The soldier stammered, avoiding Rei’s gaze.
Rei’s heart pounded. Without realizing it, he grabbed the soldier’s shoulders and demanded, "What’s going on!? Tell me now!"
The soldier grew even more frightened and panicked.
However, he knew there was no point in hiding it and explained in a trembling voice, "H-Hero, our forces are in danger. Demon General Malgrion has transformed into his berserk form! N-Now, the demon and human forces have been scattered across the battlefield. And Commander Evalyn..."
He swallowed hard, his whole body shaking. "She’s trying to fight him."
Boom!
Rei’s head felt as if it had been struck by a one-ton iron hammer. His mind went blank, and his eyes turned dazed.
"E-Evalyn is fighting Malgrion in his berserk form?" he repeated in a hoarse voice. "Y-You..."
He wanted to scold the soldier, but quickly restrained himself. It was clear the man in front of him wasn’t responsible for any of this.
"I understand..." Rei suppressed the rage boiling in his chest, then shoved the soldier aside.
Without another word, he turned and limped back toward his tent.
When Luminus saw Rei return, it was startled and asked, "What’s wrong?"
Rei’s face was dark and grim. He walked over and picked up his sword.
"Luminus, let’s go to the battlefield!"
"What!?" Luminus was stunned. "Are you crazy!? In your current condition, that’s suicide!"
"I don’t care!" Rei gritted his teeth. "Evalyn is in danger right now! Malgrion has transformed into his berserk form. If I don’t step in, there’s no way she can defeat him."
Malgrion was the second strongest demon general, ranked just below the First Demon General.
Although Rei had never seen him enter his berserk form, he had heard countless stories about how terrifying Malgrion became in that state—his strength increased fivefold, his regenerative abilities seemed limitless, and more.
There was no way Evalyn could defeat him. That was why Rei had to step in now.
Luminus was at a loss for words. It was unexpected that Rei would care so deeply about Evalyn, considering they had only just met.
But then again, Evalyn was his descendant, so it made sense that he was this worried about her safety.
"I understand." Luminus let out a long sigh. "Let’s go."
Rei nodded. He walked out and quickened his pace.
Suddenly, a worried voice came from behind him.
"Rei, what are you doing out here!?"
Rei stopped in his tracks. He turned stiffly and saw Roseline standing about ten meters behind him.
"Y-Your Highness? What are you doing here?"
Roseline hurried toward him, her face filled with annoyance.
"That’s not important. What are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be in your tent resting?"
Rei suppressed the turmoil in his heart and spoke honestly. "I want to go to the battlefield. Evalyn needs my help."
"The battlefield?" Roseline’s eyes widened. "Are you crazy!? In your current condition, that would be suicide! Come back with me right now!"
She reached out to grab Rei’s wrist, but Rei quickly dodged her.
Roseline froze, staring at him in disbelief.
"Rei, you..."
Rei took a deep breath, then spoke in an apologetic tone.
"I’m sorry, Your Highness. I can’t comply with your request this time. Evalyn is my descendant... and also your descendant in the future. It is my responsibility as her ancestor to protect her. I can’t let her die at Malgrion’s hands."
Nolan had entrusted Evalyn’s safety to him. If anything happened to Evalyn, Rei knew the man would surely beat him to death.
Although Nolan looked like an ordinary person, Rei knew better than anyone that Nolan was simply hiding his power.
The aura he emitted was far more terrifying than even the Demon Emperor’s.
As the two stood locked in tension, the sound of hurried footsteps approached, followed by an excited shout from a soldier.
"Hero of Light! Your Highness the Princess! Good news! Good news has arrived!"
Both were startled. They turned at the same time toward the soldier and asked, "What good news?"
The soldier bowed his head, then replied, "Our forces have returned victorious! Commander Evalyn has defeated Demon General Malgrion!"
Both of them froze in shock and exchanged stunned glances.
"Where is Evalyn now?" Rei asked urgently.
"Commander Evalyn and her troops are on their way back. They should arrive in about ten minutes," the soldier replied.
Rei let out a long sigh of relief and patted his chest.
"Thank goodness..." A smile returned to his face. "That really had me worried."
Roseline also felt relieved, and a smile returned to her face as well.
Not long after, with Roseline’s help, Rei went to the front of the camp to welcome Evalyn and the soldiers returning from the battlefield.
