Chapter 741: Unforeseen Insights
Chapter 741: Unforeseen Insights
The Tower of Silence was enormous. There were three main towers soaring high into the sky, along with several smaller towers surrounding them.
The three main towers were the Star Tower, the Sun Tower, and the Moon Tower.
The placement of these three towers was not without reason. The Star Tower stood directly beneath a constellation at night, while the Moon Tower stood directly beneath the shining moon.
Meanwhile, the Sun Tower stood directly beneath the sun during the day.
All three also served different purposes. Take the Moon Tower, for example, which functioned as a repository for treasures such as magical techniques and other valuable items.
The Moon Tower was also the most valuable and was strictly guarded by powerful mages at all times.
"It’s pretty quiet. Are the students starting their classes?"
Nolan looked around at the quiet surroundings with curiosity. The courtyard, which was usually bustling, looked empty, with not a single person there except him and Sylvia.
Sylvia nodded slightly. "That’s right. Everyone’s studying."
Nolan glanced at her and asked playfully, "Then why are you here? Aren’t you studying too?"
Sylvia remained calm as she replied, "I’ve already completed a full year of my studies. In short, I don’t need to attend classes for another year; I just need to deepen my magical abilities."
Nolan’s smile froze. He stared at the calm, aloof-looking girl with admiration.
’This girl is truly gifted,’ he muttered.
Completing a year’s worth of studies was clearly an astonishing achievement. Not many people—in fact, almost no one—had ever done it before.
Yet this girl had managed to do it. Now Nolan finally understood why she would one day become a Beyond the World mage—her talent surpassed everyone he had ever seen, including Jisha and Sharon.
Although the future Sylvia had reached that level thanks to his help, her talent still played a crucial role.
"Good job." Nolan raised his hand and ruffled the girl’s hair. "You’re amazing."
Sylvia froze at the sudden touch. Her previously expressionless face turned bright red.
She lowered her head and made no move to remove his hand from her head.
Over the past few days, Nolan had occasionally touched her—rubbing her head, pinching her cheek, and stroking her face.
At first, Sylvia was uncomfortable with it. But strangely, over time, she began to get used to it and even enjoy it.
The two continued walking and finally arrived at the cafeteria. The place was quite spacious—almost as large as an imperial hall.
Many shops lined the area, and several students could be seen waiting in line to buy their lunch.
Nolan took Sylvia to the food stall he usually visited.
"Oh, you’re here again, handsome Nolan," greeted a pretty woman in her thirties. "What would you like this time?"
"Good afternoon, ma’am," Nolan replied politely. "Is there a special today?"
The woman shook her head with a smile. "No, but I have a special sauce, and I’m sure you’ll love it."
Her gaze never left Nolan’s calm yet gentle face.
Four days ago, Nolan had come to her shop to buy food.
To be honest, she was completely captivated at the time. Nolan was so handsome that just looking at him made her heart race.
Although she was now used to his good looks, for some reason her heart still raced every time she looked at him.
"Great! Please give me one serving of grilled chicken to eat here, and later pack some smoked ham and a bottle of water. That’s for that old man," Nolan said softly.
Nolan had a cover identity—a direct disciple of the Great Sage Orrun.
That identity was clearly official. Nolan had even received a student badge from the registration department.
Although his status was fake, it allowed Nolan to wander freely in the Tower of Silence.
"Okay! Just a moment."
The beautiful woman turned around and prepared the food for him.
Nolan turned to Sylvia and asked, "Don’t you want to eat?"
Sylvia shook her head. "I’m full."
She patted her stomach. But the next second, a rumbling sound came from it.
Krrk!
Sylvia: "..."
"Pfft!" Nolan chuckled and patted her head. "If you’re hungry, just say so. I’ll treat you."
He then ordered food for the little girl. After their orders were ready, Nolan went to an empty table and ate his lunch.
Sylvia ate heartily, her face beaming with happiness.
Nolan couldn’t help but smile. He quietly took out his recording device and captured the adorable scene.
’When I return to my era, I’ll use this recording to pressure Sylvia,’ he muttered with a sly grin.
That woman had once helped the Ancient Kingdom of Eron suppress him and Seira. Although Nolan didn’t hold it against her, he still considered it a debt.
With this recording, he was sure he could humiliate her until she didn’t dare mess with him again.
While they were enjoying their meal, Nolan suddenly brought up an absurd topic.
"Do you know the concept of teleportation magic, Sylvia?"
Sylvia, who was chewing, was startled. She swallowed and gave a small nod.
"I do."
"Oh? Can you explain it to me?" Nolan blinked curiously.
"Teleportation magic is magic that splits space and moves something to another place in an instant," Sylvia explained briefly. "And the most important part of that magic is the object. If the object doesn’t have enough mana to protect it, it can be crushed by the force of space."
Nolan was startled. "The object?"
He contemplated that simple word deeply. The next moment, his eyes widened, and his breathing grew heavy.
"The object... Yes, that’s it!"
Bang!
Nolan slammed both hands down on the table. The loud noise startled Sylvia and the other students eating nearby.
"Brother Nolan, you..." Sylvia was about to reprimand him, but Nolan suddenly walked over and pulled her into an embrace.
"Thank you... Thank you, Sylvia!"
His embrace was so tight that Sylvia had trouble breathing. She hurriedly patted his back, signaling for him to let go.
Nolan quickly realized his mistake and loosened his grip.
Sylvia let out a long sigh and glared at Nolan.
"Brother Nolan, are you trying to kill me?" she protested, clearly annoyed.
Nolan rubbed his nose and smiled sheepishly.
"Sorry, I didn’t mean to," he said with a guilty expression. He ruffled Sylvia’s hair and looked at her gently.
"Thank you. Thanks to your explanation earlier, I’ve gained new insight into what I need to do."
He had been so fixated on the complicated details that he had forgotten the most fundamental aspect of teleportation magic—the object.
Without an object, he had no way of knowing whether the teleportation spell had worked or not.
The same applied to the Two-World Teleportation Magic he and Orrun were developing.
They weren’t using an object, so they had no way of confirming whether the magic was working.
Sylvia felt slightly embarrassed after hearing his words. She had simply spoken her mind.
Who would have thought it would make Nolan so happy?
Yet at the same time, she felt happy too. At last, she could be useful to someone else—especially since that person was Nolan, the strange man who had managed to confuse her and pique her curiosity over the past few days.
