The Hidden Extra: The Lazy Prince Refuses to Ascend The Throne

Chapter 740: The Butterfly Effect

Chapter 740: The Butterfly Effect

According to historical records, the siege of the Demon Emperor’s fortress took place when the Hero of Light and the Hero of Darkness had officially turned twenty-seven.

However, right now, both of them were only twenty-five. How could the plan for the siege have been moved up two years earlier than it was supposed to be?

Suddenly, Evalyn remembered something, and her eyes widened in fear.

"C-Could it be because of me and Nolan?"

Her heart pounded wildly. She didn’t fully understand what it meant, but Nolan had once mentioned that a phenomenon capable of altering events—even history itself—was called the butterfly effect.

Their actions had most likely caused it.

"What’s wrong, Evalyn? Why is your face so pale?" Rei’s confused voice snapped her out of her thoughts.

Evalyn took a deep breath, then forced a stiff smile.

"I-It’s nothing, Ancestor. By the way, did that plan come from the Hero of Darkness or from the imperial family?" she asked.

"It came directly from the imperial family," Rei replied with a resigned sigh. "I don’t know why they’re in such a rush. I’m afraid their recklessness might bring disaster in the future."

Right now, the Demon Emperor and his forces were aggressively attacking various regions across the southern continent.

According to Rei, what he and Lucas should do is stop them first.

Once they succeeded, they would need to gather forces from various kingdoms and launch a united assault on the Demon Empire’s stronghold.

However, the imperial family had acted rashly instead. Rei feared their actions would spark criticism from all sides.

After all, he and Lucas had been summoned not only by the Great Velmora Empire but also through a ritual agreed upon by all the major powers on the continent.

"Hmmm..." Evalyn narrowed her eyes. She still didn’t understand the reason behind it.

But one thing was certain: the butterfly effect caused by her and Nolan was far greater than she had imagined.

"I understand." Evalyn nodded slightly. "Then, what do you want me to do?"

Rei smiled and explained, "As long as Lucas is here, could you please avoid meeting him? I’m afraid he might discover your origins, which could end up causing chaos in this era."

Evalyn’s appearance was no trivial matter. It could shake this world to its core.

Space and time were mysterious realms, and no one was capable of studying them in depth.

Therefore, Evalyn must not be discovered by anyone. Otherwise, a massive upheaval could occur—and Rei did not want his most brilliant descendant, in the family he would one day establish, to end up being detained by the imperial family.

"I understand," Evalyn agreed without hesitation. "I’ll hide in my tent when the Hero of Darkness arrives. Don’t worry."

Rei smiled with satisfaction. "Thank you for your understanding."

...

"Just a little more! We’re definitely going to make it!"

Orrun clenched both fists, trembling with excitement.

The magic formation before him glowed with a bright light that slowly grew larger.

However, the next second, the light suddenly exploded and vanished as if it had never existed.

Orrun: "..."

Nolan: "..."

"Damn it!"

Orrun slammed the map in his hand onto the table in anger. The joy on his face vanished instantly, replaced by disappointment and despair.

"Damn it! Why did it fail again? I’m sure the formula was correct. Is that spell really impossible to cast?"

He scratched his head in frustration. Nolan’s arrival had reignited his hope of creating the Two-World Teleportation spell—a hope that had nearly faded before.

Nolan was the most brilliant young mage he had ever seen in his entire life.

With his help, the chances of success should have been high. But frustratingly, even after Nolan helped devise the formula, the spell still failed.

It truly infuriated him, to the point where he felt short of breath.

Unlike Orrun, who looked dejected, Nolan remained calm. He recorded the failure in Orrun’s notebook.

"Seventh attempt... failed."

Nolan set the quill down beside the book, then stretched his stiff body.

"Alright, Old Man, don’t get too sentimental. Failure is the beginning of success. Just relax."

Nolan smiled and patted Orrun on the shoulder.

"Damn it! You’re making me sound like a little kid!"

Orrun brushed his hand off his shoulder and hung his head in frustration.

"I’ve been working on this project for three years! Three years, kid! Do you know what that means? If you don’t get it, I’ll explain! I’ve wasted three years of my life just for this damn failure! You don’t understand, you jerk!"

Orrun stomped his short legs on the ground, his face a mix of exhaustion and helplessness.

Nolan let out a small sigh. He didn’t fully understand Orrun’s suffering.

However, in his view, this outcome actually made sense. Two-World Teleportation Magic fell into the category of the impossible.

That magic combined the elements of space and time, which people in the future considered the realm of gods.

Even so, Nolan wasn’t too worried. He was the Singularity of Chaos.

His expertise lay in the elements of space and time. Although his control over time was still quite poor compared to space, it was more than enough to prove that one didn’t need to be a god to control both elements.

Nolan ignored Orrun, who was still whining like a child, and walked toward the magic formula on the floor.

He crouched down and examined the formation’s layout. Unlike five days ago, when he had first arrived, the magic formula was now far more complex.

The formation consisted of ten interconnected stars, stretching five meters wide.

In Nolan’s life, this was the most complex magical formation he had ever created.

Naturally, that didn’t mean other mages couldn’t create it. However, in the future world of magic, there was a famous saying that any magical formation with more than seven lines would explode.

Since mages in the future possessed far less knowledge compared to those in this era, they simply believed it.

As a result, magic in the future was much weaker than magic in this era, which was more often referred to as "Ancient Magic."

’Where is the flaw?’ Nolan pondered silently.

The formation’s layout followed the one used by the mages to summon the two heroes.

But Nolan had modified it, making it far more complex. Of course, all of these changes were also thanks to Orrun’s help.

Otherwise, it would have been impossible for him to do it.

Nolan tried to rack his brain but failed to find a solution.

In the end, he decided to set the problem aside for now and stood up.

"Old Man, I want to have lunch first. You should go have lunch too. There’s no point in thinking about it on an empty stomach," he said casually.

Orrun took a deep breath and nodded in agreement.

"You’re right. You’re going to the cafeteria, aren’t you? Please bring me some smoked ham and a glass of cold water."

Nolan didn’t refuse. Without saying another word, he turned and walked toward the door.

But just as he opened it and was about to step out, someone appeared in front of him. It was an adorable little girl.

"Hmmm?" Nolan blinked in confusion. "You... Sylvia?"
