Chapter 747: A Destiny Shrouded in Mist

Chapter 747: A Destiny Shrouded in Mist

"Does it taste good?" Nolan asked.

"Mmm! It’s so good! I didn’t know cotton candy could taste this good," Sylvia replied, licking and eating the candy in her hand.

Nolan smiled and said nothing more. He looked around, then his gaze was drawn to a small stall on the right side of the street.

The stall wasn’t particularly large—in fact, it was quite small. However, it was clean and looked simple.

"Let’s go to that stall," Nolan said, pointing at the small stall.

Sylvia followed his gesture and gave a slight nod. The two of them walked closer.

Unlike most stalls, this one was covered with black cloth on both the right and left sides. Only the front was open.

Inside, there was a man in a black cloak that concealed his entire appearance.

"Welcome to my fortune-telling stall, you two young people. Please tell me what you’d like to have read," said the mysterious man.

"A fortune-telling stall?" Nolan’s eyebrows rose slightly. He looked up, searching for a sign, but couldn’t find one.

No wonder the booth was deserted—most people avoided fortune-tellers, considering them nothing more than scams.

However, since they had already come this far, Nolan didn’t mind testing whether the mysterious man was lying or truly possessed real abilities.

"Please predict my future," Nolan requested, folding his arms across his chest. "Tell me what will happen to me in the next ten to a hundred years."

The mysterious man nodded. He took a purple crystal ball and placed it on the table in front of him.

Placing both palms on its surface, he closed his eyes and began to utter strange, indistinct whispers.

A few moments later, the crystal ball emitted a faint light that slowly grew brighter.

Sylvia was amazed by the sight and asked curiously, "Brother Nolan, is fortune-telling real?"

The Tower of Silence was the center of magic. Many powerful mages had been born in that place.

Even so, Sylvia had never seen a true fortune-teller with genuine abilities. Most were just liars and frauds.

Her master had also said that fortune-telling was a foolish practice used by liars for mere profit.

Nolan smiled and replied calmly, "Whether it’s true or not depends on one’s own belief. I have a friend who can read the future. His ability is real, but it often comes with significant consequences."

His expression turned serious as he thought of the person he was referring to—the Singularity of the Stars.

That person was extremely mysterious. Two of Nolan’s closest people had already been foretold by him. The first was Luvistar, and the second was Rafine.

He didn’t know what the old man’s intentions were in doing that. As far as he could recall, foretelling the futures of those closest to him tended to cause problems down the line.

After all, he was the Singularity of Chaos. His identity carried immense weight, including his destiny.

As Nolan and Sylvia were talking casually, the mysterious man took a deep breath and shook his head.

"I’m sorry; I can’t predict your fate. It feels as though a gray mist is blocking my vision," he said in a heavy voice.

He looked at Nolan with a meaningful gaze.

Nolan pretended not to notice the look and nodded casually.

"I understand. In that case, please predict what will happen to the Demon Emperor and his army. You should be able to do that, right?"

The man gave a nod and began the prediction.

Nolan watched the process calmly. If this man truly knew what would happen to the Demon Emperor, then he could be trusted.

But if he didn’t, then he was nothing more than a fraud.

Unlike before, this fortune-telling session took longer. After a moment, the mysterious man finally withdrew his hand from the crystal ball.

"The Demon Emperor... will be defeated," he said calmly.

"Oh? How will he be defeated?" Nolan asked, feigning surprise.

The man fell silent for a few seconds before continuing, "He will suffer two defeats in his lifetime. The first will come in the near future. Two heroes of humanity will storm his fortress and bring him down. The accumulated glory of the Demon Empire over thousands of years will crumble in a single night, and the world will experience a peace it has never known before."

He paused, then lifted his gaze and looked directly at Nolan.

"The second defeat will come a thousand years from now. It will be different from the first. The Demon Emperor will come to regret all the evil he has committed. He will meet the one he betrayed. And his second defeat will come at the hands of someone far stronger than the two heroes who defeated him the first time. That man will possess the power of the gods—something that should not exist in this world."

At those words, Nolan’s feigned expression slowly shifted into one of astonishment, fear, and awe.

"You..."

He was about to speak, but the man extended his left hand first.

"Two gold coins for the prediction."

Nolan fell silent. He wasn’t angry. Instead, he reached into his pocket and handed over the payment.

"By the way," the man said, turning toward Sylvia. "Take care of that little girl. Her future is limitless. She may become someone who can help you one day."

After saying that, he closed the curtain, and the stall fell silent once more.

Nolan stood in silence. The fortune-teller’s words kept echoing in his mind.

"Brother Nolan? Why are you spacing out?"

Sylvia’s worried voice pulled him back to reality.

Nolan took a deep breath, then gave a gentle smile.

"It’s nothing. By the way, let’s go get dinner. I’m getting a little hungry."

At the mention of food, Sylvia’s face immediately lit up. She nodded eagerly and, without hesitation, pulled Nolan away from the stall.

After the two of them disappeared from view, the mysterious man slowly opened the curtain and watched them leave.

"What an intriguing man," he murmured with a faint smirk. "The destiny he carries is immense, and his future is shrouded in mist. Who exactly are you?"

He had never seen someone like that before. Normally, a person’s future could be seen clearly, predictably, and traceably. Even the Demon Emperor had been no exception.

But Nolan’s future was completely unreadable.

It was as if it did not exist at all.

The man let out a small chuckle, then shook off his confusion. "This world is about to change in a direction no one can foresee..."

With that, he closed the curtain once more, and the stall fell silent.
