Chapter 760: Nolan’s Return
Chapter 760: Nolan’s Return
Two hours later...
"Hmmm... Was my punishment too harsh?"
Nolan stared at Zerathos, who lay on the ground like a dead fish.
His condition was pitiful. His expression was blank, and his body was covered in bruises.
There were no serious physical injuries aside from the bruises caused by Nolan’s earlier blows, but his mental state and self-esteem had been completely shattered.
That was far worse than physical wounds, because injuries like those required extraordinary effort to heal.
And more often than not, the result was futile, because most people who suffered such mental wounds and broken self-esteem lacked the strength to rise again.
Nolan stood up and snapped his fingers. The throne behind him slowly dissolved into black smoke.
He then landed beside Zerathos and checked his condition.
"It’s far worse than I expected," he muttered helplessly.
He had thought Zerathos would be able to endure it, but it turned out he couldn’t. This man was truly weak and disappointing.
Nolan placed his palm on him, and the wounds on the demon’s body slowly healed.
He then sealed his memories so the defeat he had just suffered would not affect the course of history.
"Oh, right! This demon is too strong! How could Rei and the Heroes of Darkness possibly defeat him?"
Nolan slapped his forehead as soon as he remembered that. He then sealed away most of Zerathos’s power.
Once he finished, he stood up and nodded in satisfaction.
"Now everything is in order. As for humanity’s victory in the upcoming war... well, what does it have to do with me?"
He turned around, and his figure gradually vanished into white smoke.

The next day...
Today marked the beginning of the assault on the Demon Empire’s fortress.
The troops woke early to prepare. They knew this war would become either a new beginning or the end for them.
If they won, they could start a new life. If they lost, everything would end there.
While the soldiers were preparing, Roseline walked toward Evalyn’s tent and was about to wake her when an annoyed voice came from inside.
"Where is that smelly guy? Why hasn’t he come back yet? He’s so annoying!"
Roseline was startled for a moment before a meaningful smile appeared on her face.
"She’s far too honest with her feelings," she chuckled softly before calling out, "Evalyn, it’s me. May I come in?"
"Huh? Ancestor? W-Wait a moment! I’m changing clothes!" Evalyn’s panicked voice came from inside the tent.
Roseline waited calmly until Evalyn finally spoke again.
"You may come in."
Roseline stepped inside and saw Evalyn dressed in heavy silver armor. Her silver hair was tied into a ponytail, making her look elegant while still retaining her heroic aura.
"Are you ready?" Roseline asked as she approached her.
"I am, Ancestor. I’m ready!" Evalyn replied enthusiastically while clenching both fists tightly.
This assault would go down in history as humanity’s greatest offensive and would mark the collapse of the Demon Empire that had stood for thousands of years.
And now, she had the chance to witness it—no, even participate in it personally.
Evalyn was certain that if this fact were revealed, countless people in her era would envy her.
At the very least, deep down, everyone harbored the desire to take part in this greatest assault in history, even though they knew it was impossible.
"Great! By the way, have you heard anything from Nolan?" Roseline asked as she walked to the edge of the bed and sat down.
Hearing the question, Evalyn’s expression immediately darkened. She shook her head and snorted coldly.
"I don’t know, and I don’t care. Let that man die out there. I’ll return to my era on my own once everything is over."
Seeing her adorable reaction, Roseline could not help but smile.
She then tried to soothe her. "Don’t be like that. Who knows? He might return at any moment. You might regret saying that later."
However, Evalyn remained stubborn and insisted, "Impossible! That man is probably enjoying himself somewhere right now. There’s no way he would—"
Before she could finish her sentence, a casual voice came from outside.
"Impossible? But I’m back now."
The tent curtain was pulled aside, and Nolan stepped inside with a smile on his face.
The moment she saw Nolan appear, Evalyn froze in shock and blurted out, "How did you get here?"
Nolan rolled his eyes and walked closer.
"That’s a pretty harsh thing to ask, isn’t it? Were you hoping I’d die out there?"
Evalyn’s expression immediately turned awkward, and she quickly looked away.
However, the moment she remembered his sudden departure, her irritation resurfaced.
"What do I care? If you die, then just die out there. I’ll return to our era safely, while you won’t."
"Ahem! Evalyn, don’t be like that," Roseline hurriedly tried to calm her down. She then turned to Nolan, a hint of helplessness and exasperation visible in her eyes. "And you, Nolan. Couldn’t you at least tell us before leaving? You made Evalyn worry. As a man, you should pay attention to little things like that."
Seeing Roseline take her side, Evalyn smiled smugly and shot Nolan a triumphant glance.
Nolan did not get upset. After all, it was entirely his fault for leaving without informing Evalyn and Roseline.
"I understand. I’m sorry for making you both worry," he admitted sincerely.
Roseline nodded in satisfaction. Nolan was a prince, and because of his high status, she had assumed he would be arrogant.
But it seemed she had been mistaken. This young man was quite reasonable and knew when to advance and when to step back.
"By the way, there’s something I want to discuss," Roseline said, changing the subject. "We’ll be launching an attack on the Demon Empire’s fortress today. Evalyn will be joining the assault since we’re lacking powerful fighters in our ranks. Do you want to come with us as well?"
Nolan was slightly surprised and glanced at Evalyn, who responded with a small nod.
"Don’t worry. I’ve taken on a new identity as an unknown female warrior from the central continent. With this identity, no one will suspect me," she explained softly.
Nolan nodded silently.
"No, I won’t join. I’ll leave the assault to all of you," Nolan refused.
He had just attacked the Demon Empire’s imperial palace the day before. If he were to reveal himself now, wouldn’t that be dangerous?
Besides, many soldiers had seen his true form, and he had not yet had the time to erase their memories.
"I understand. It’s alright. Just stay here. There will be soldiers on guard, so you’ll be safe," Roseline said softly.
After exchanging a few more words, Roseline stood up and left. She still had much to do, especially coordinating with the other troops who would be departing shortly.
When Roseline was gone, only Nolan and Evalyn remained.
"Nolan," Evalyn called out with a complicated expression. "There’s something I want to ask you."
Nolan sat down where Roseline had been and nodded.
"Go ahead."
Evalyn took a deep breath, then asked, "Will my participation in this assault change the course of history?"
