Chapter 774: Reuniting with Rei and Roseline
Chapter 774: Reuniting with Rei and Roseline
Evalyn stopped in her tracks. She turned around and saw Lucas’s tall figure approaching her.
She frowned. If this had been her first time arriving in this era, she might have been pleased to meet Lucas, the Hero of Darkness.
But after the reckless orders he had given earlier, her admiration for him had plummeted.
She couldn’t understand how a guy with such a selfish and irritating personality had been chosen as the Hero of Darkness.
Still, Evalyn quickly suppressed her irritation and asked flatly, "What is it, Hero of Darkness?"
Lucas could sense the displeasure in her voice. He knew it was probably related to his earlier actions.
But he didn’t care. He was a hero—the supreme leader of the human forces.
Sooner or later, everyone would respect him. He didn’t need to earn their approval.
"I’ve got a question," he said. "During the attack on Infernos City, I felt the power of the Divine Sword Luminus coming from you. What’s that about?"
He watched her closely, trying to catch even the slightest change in her expression.
But Evalyn remained calm. She had expected him to notice the power she had used earlier.
"Why do you care?" she replied coldly.
Without another word, she turned and walked away.
But Lucas had no intention of letting her leave. He reached out, grabbed her shoulder, and ordered, "Stop!"
Evalyn’s eyes turned cold.
In the next instant, she spun around, forcefully knocked his hand off her shoulder, and drove her fist straight toward his face.
"I know you’re a hero, but that doesn’t give you the right to do whatever you want," she said coldly. "And even now, I’m pretty sure I can defeat you. Want to find out?"
Lucas froze. He met Evalyn’s icy gaze before shifting his attention to the fist aimed directly at his face.
Rage surged within him. Just as he was about to attack, the voice of the Eclipse Dark Sword echoed in his mind.
"Boss! Don’t do anything stupid! The woman in front of you is extremely dangerous! You’ll only get yourself killed!"
Lucas was startled. The sword had never warned him like this before, except when he had faced a man named Nolan.
Yet now, for some reason, it was giving him the very same warning.
"What do you mean? Are you saying this woman is far stronger than me?" Lucas asked angrily.
"It’s not like that! I can sense the aura of that tall man who humiliated you earlier lingering within her. It seems he left some kind of talisman on her. If she were to be in danger, that talisman would activate, and you would surely die on the spot!"
Lucas’s expression changed instantly upon hearing those words. The way he looked at Evalyn became far more cautious.
He had thought he could suppress her as long as that mysterious man wasn’t around. But it turned out he was mistaken.
The man was still protecting Evalyn, even when he wasn’t by her side.
In the end, his fear of death proved greater than his ego and arrogance.
Without another word, he turned and walked away, leaving Evalyn behind.
Evalyn let out a long sigh. In truth, if it came to a fight, she knew she stood no chance against him.
After all, Lucas was the Chosen One—the Hero of Darkness.
Even though she possessed the Divine Sword Luminus, which could counter the Eclipse Dark Sword, she wasn’t a hero.
There was still a huge gap in strength between them, one that couldn’t be closed with training and talent alone.
"Still, Lucas’s senses are pretty impressive. He managed to detect the power of the Divine Sword Luminus from that far away," she muttered.
Shaking off her thoughts, she made her way back to her tent.
Tomorrow was the day they would attack Valthoria, and she needed to be in peak condition for it.

A week passed quickly. During that time, Evalyn and her forces successfully conquered many cities belonging to the Demon Empire.
The imperial palace repeatedly sent powerful demon generals to halt their advance, but every effort proved futile.
One after another, they were defeated by Evalyn. Throughout the invasion, Lucas finally stopped sitting idly by and began taking an active role in supporting the human forces.
Since that night, Lucas hadn’t spoken a single word to Evalyn.
Evalyn didn’t care in the slightest. If anything, she was relieved. With no one to distract her, she could devote all her attention to the war.
On the eighth day, they finally took Belmora, the last city on the border of the Demon Empire’s central region.
The Empire’s capital was now within reach.
"Just a little farther..."
From the top of a tall tower, Evalyn stared at the capital in the distance.
Eight days was a long time. But to her, it had passed in the blink of an eye.
A gentle breeze blew past her, causing her long silver hair to sway gently.
As she stood there lost in thought, a voice suddenly called out from below.
"Warrior Evalyn! I have important news! The Hero of Light and Princess Roseline have arrived with their troops. They want to meet you!"
Evalyn snapped out of her thoughts. Looking down at the soldier, she jumped from the tower and landed lightly beside him.
"Take me to them," she said.
The soldier nodded and led her to the tent where the two were waiting.

"Haha! Evalyn, you’re amazing! Thank you!"
Rei patted Evalyn on the shoulder as he laughed heartily.
He had already received reports from his subordinates about Evalyn’s success in leading the troops to conquer numerous cities of the Demon Empire.
Everything had gone so smoothly that it was as if she possessed years of battlefield experience.
Only Rei knew that wasn’t true. Evalyn had no real experience commanding troops in war.
That meant her achievements were entirely the result of her talent and exceptional abilities.
Evalyn smiled and replied modestly, "Thank you for the praise, Ancestor. It wasn’t just my achievement. The soldiers fought hard as well."
Roseline chuckled softly and stepped closer before handing her a glass of cold water.
"Don’t be so modest. An army’s success depends a lot on its commander. You deserve the credit."
Evalyn simply smiled.
"By the way, Evalyn," Roseline said, lowering her voice. "How is your cooperation with Lucas? Is he giving you a hard time?"
Rei also looked curious. The reason he had assigned Evalyn to work alongside Lucas was to help her get to know him better.
After all, opportunities to understand the Hero of Darkness on a deeper level were rare.
Evalyn’s expression darkened as soon as she heard the question.
Shaking her head, she replied with a hint of irritation, "It’s been terrible, Ancestor."
The two of them blinked in surprise and exchanged glances.
"Terrible? What happened?" Roseline asked.
Evalyn let out a long sigh.
"The Hero of Darkness is really..." She paused for a moment before finishing, "...annoying."
